Forbidden love, undeniable desire....

Davina Montgomery is no ordinary English lady. For her own protection, she’s been locked away from society, her true identity the Crown’s most closely guarded secret. Until a shocking betrayal—and a bold rescue—land her in the arms of a fierce Highlander, a powerful warrior whose searing gaze and tantalizing touch awaken her body and soul.

As the firstborn son of a powerful Scottish laird, Robert MacGregor has no loyalty to the English throne, but he’s not the kind of man to leave a woman in distress, even if she is English. He vows to deliver Davina to safety, unharmed and untouched. Yet one stolen kiss leaves them both smoldering with desire and desperate for more. With Davina’s secret threatening to destroy his clan, Rob must choose between everything he holds dear and the one woman he can’t live without.

One of the Best

This book is one on the best books I ever listened to. I cannot believe that the other reviews were not higher; just to think I could have missed out on this outstanding book if I had not taken a chance. I wrote this same review for the second book, when I meant it for this book.

Love those highlanders!

Nice story with just enough twists to keep in interesting without being overly complicated. The narrator was fantastic with her Scottish accents! Can't wait to read next in the series.

YIKES. Terrible narrator.

I am shamelessly addicted to Scottish Highlander books. That being said this was the absolute worst narration I have ever heard in my life. In no way was this anything resembling a Scots accent. Yowza. Unfortunately, the main characters voice was so whiney and annoying I often had to stop listening for a while and start it back up when I was desperate and had nothing else.

The story was alright but if there had been better narration I think I would have been able to get more into it.

I love me some Highlander...

I have a special place in my heart for Highlanders. I love that they're gorgeous, strong, brave and loyal. I am beyond happy to find a new highlander series to take me away from reality. This book was very good. I specially liked the fact that it gives you many historical references that make the story more authentic. The romance was beautiful and believable.

Narration: I didn't particularly love the narration by Carrington MacDuffie but I ended up getting used to it. Her female voices are very good but the male characters sound a bit strange. Her Scottish accent isn't great either. But my complaints are minor. The story is good enough that I was ok with the narration and will most definitely listen to the next book in the series.

Sweet Romance

It's nice once in awhile to have the hero and heroine admit they love each other early on in the book...there is no , he loves her but won't admit it...she loves him but can't admit it. A nice change of pace for me in a romance. There is still the very present question, "will their love be enough to hold then together?" That will keep you listening. Not too fond of the narrator, she's not the worst I've heard, but sort of monotone and a bit boring at times (that did not deter me from buying the 2nd book in the series). If your fond of those hunky sexy highlander alphamales as your hero, you'll probably endjoy this book.

Love those highlanders

This was the first "highlander" story I've ever listened to and I loved it! The narrator's voice for the main character Rob was all wrong. The voice did not seem to flow with the descriptions of the character and at times it was annoying. Despite that however the story and the love between the two main characters was great. I will listen to the rest of the series very soon.

Pretty good, but lacked something

Maybe it was because the main character wasn't a laird, but the son of a chief. Maybe it was because the leading lady wasn't tossed in with the male lead against her will...not sure what was missing but it was still a nice story.

As Rob, a highlander, passes by an Abby on the way to the Kings coronation he is dragged into a battle, he's shot with an arrow, and is begged by an English Captain to save the lady burning in the Abby. So, as any good highlander would do he saves the lady, but now what?!?! There are no survivors, and an entire English Army battalion was there protecting her....but why, who is she, and why does she have hundreds of men dying for her? She's not talking, and he's not buying she is a nobody.

There is an intricate plot, with many characters and takes place in both Scotland and England. There is a lot of talk about the English politics, kind of made it hard to keep up, but overall it was a decent story. Buy it on sale, maybe a credit if you really like this genre, but not worth buying in my opinion.

So, so

Everything about this book is okay.... just okay. I don't really expect this kind of stuff to be great literature, and I didn't pay for that either. It's entertainment. Just know that going in.

A wasted credit!

I didn't make it beyond the first part of this book. The male lead is the happiest-go-lucky highlander I've ever seen in literature. He's better suited to a childrens' story than a romance. The attraction between the two main characters lacks depth, the accents are unbearable...sometimes sounding almost Hispanic at times, sometimes east Indian...rarely Scottish. There are way to many stock descriptions. The writing seems amateur, the narrator is lacking, and the motivations of the characters are underdeveloped. I would not buy this author again.

this was too predictable and shallow. I love highlander stories and have read many good ones. this is not one of them.
