PLUS ONE: Standalone romance

Blackmailing my sexy boss, the one with a panty-melting smirk into being my plus-one for a wedding in my hometown while staying at my parents’ house for the long weekend—what could possibly go wrong?

Duncan Willis is sexy and confident, the kind of man every woman notices. You know, the one with the to-die-for body. And then there's the way his designer suits drape over his broad shoulders and big...well, we've all heard the rumors, the ones that say he's up for any challenge.

Men like him don't notice women like me, and they don't date them. Until that one time that I catch him in a compromising position when I'm also in need of a last-minute date for a wedding...and then it's not a real one, simply a plus-one.

It's blackmail.

***

That’s what Kimbra Jones thinks.

Letting her believe she blackmailed me may not be the most conventional way to get on her radar, but I didn't get this far in business without knowing when to seize an opportunity. If this sexy, little firecracker with perfectly kissable lips thinks she can trick me into attending her cousin's wedding, I'm going to jump at the chance to be her plus-one.

A sexy, fun stand-alone from New York Times bestselling author Aleatha Romig. You love her darker side. Now it's time to meet Leatha, the lighter side of Aleatha.

Lord Save Me From Weak Emotionally Moronic Heroine

I realize that there would be no story if both the main characters are healthy well-adjusted people who are fully ready for a relationship but I am really tired of heroines who have zero self-esteem and constantly second guess the fact that a man is into them. The tired cliche of shutting the other person out before they can hurt you is...well...tired. There really wasn't much of a story to begin with as the setup is ludicrous. This woman is supposed to be an intelligent human resources manager and yet thinks it's a feasible plan to try to blackmail the owner of the company she works for into going to a family wedding? I'm pretty sure that Days of Our Lives passed on that story line for being too crazy.

The sex scenes were plentiful but full of words like rod and feminine center. To top it off the narrators were the final straw. The male narrator wasn't too bad, though with a penchant for overly dramatic intonation but the female narrator really killed it for me. I just have a hard time taking a story seriously with the dramatic emphasis on even the most mundane sentences. There was the occasional bright spot (her family was a hoot) but this really wasn't for me. There really felt like there was no true beginning, middle, and end of the story. It just sort of rambled along.

AmazonPrime = EVERYONE gets an Electric TOOTHBRUSH

I quite enjoyed this book, I liked that Kimbra was a little insecure about somethings but forceful about others.

I like that Duncan is a playboy a dawg if you will but he saw something in Kimbra right from the beginning. He kept his eye on her.

I very much enjoyed the fake relationship and how it all came to be. The family omg that was FUNNY. I mean come on grandma was the freaking bomb!

Overall I liked narration; I did think Samantha’s voice was a bit to mature for Kimbra. I guess I just saw Kimbra as a little younger and not so sure of herself as Samantha portrayed her.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

No Chapter Skipping

Swoon worthy. This book is reminiscent of Jana Aston’s wrong series; fun light and sweet. No BDSM beat downs here. No alpha male in a position of power belittling or humiliating the female only to finally come to his senses in the end and proclaim his love. (Rolling my eyes). This book is sweet, respectfully, and quite enduring. No, it’s not boring. (I’ve been known to skip chapters in lue of a literature coma. I did not skip any chapters

Enjoyed..but

I liked this book a lot. However I had to get over how much I hated the voice of Samantha Prescott. She was truly horrible. The story was erotic with very little angst which I like. Use that credit. If you like romance, you’ll like it

Can't Get Beyond Chapter 3

I'm sure this is a lovely story, but the female narrator's constantly quivering voice is too distracting.

Corny

I couldn't handle the super corny monologues or the inane analogies. Dating activities are like flowers and they're building their couple bouquet? Vom. Getting the girl is like winning the top prize at an arcade. What? Male parts are like cannolis. O-kay. Also, super inconsistent characters. Main gal keeps going on and on about how her mom is old fashioned and her cousin is the perfect one in their eyes, but in-person the mom is cringeworthy in her progressive discussions with her children. Male protagonist is also inconsistent - he apparently has wanted this woman for 3 years, wants to be boyfriend girlfriend, but is also completely against commitment because his high school girlfriend dumped him?? huh?

I'm glad I didn't use a credit on this

I downloaded this as part of the Romance Package, so I'm glad I didn't lose a credit on it. I usually enjoy Aleatha's books. But this one missed the mark by far. The voice of the female narrator was too distracting and overplayed Kimbra's already annoying lack of confidence. Gave up about an hour and 20 mins in.

3.5 STARS!!

Plus One is a fun, steamy, and sexy office romance standalone.

Kimbra is in a desperate need of a plus one for her cousin’s wedding, but after finding her boss in a compromising situation, she found the answer to her predicament by blackmailing him into being her plus 1.

As they start to spend time together while at her cousins wedding, Kimbra and Duncan get to know each other in a more intimate way and can’t deny the strong chemistry between them. Can their relationship go any further than a passionate weekend?

Even though this is a new side of Author Aleatha Romig, I really enjoy this book.

In addition, I did listen to the Audiobook narrated by Samantha Prescott (rating 3 stars) & Brian Pallino (rating 5 stars), and while I didn't love it, I did enjoy it!!

Struggled connecting to the hero.

I don't care how much a hero lusts after or how well he treats his heroine. If he treats other women like crap he's not a hero to me.
