Oh! How I loved this!!!

Wow! I was shocked... I didn't think I would just fall in love with this book. It was awesome. I felt so connected to Angel...well not connected...But I totally like him. I got angry with Brea when she ran away from Angel. How could she... he needed her to live!!!! What a selfish little twit!

I really felt like Angel should have mind warped her or something...but darn that thing about free will with his mate... Sheeez! Anyway...what an enjoyable story from beginning to end. I loved it... even all the angsty moments...

Worth a credit, buy or sale... I can't wait for book 2.

Narration was pretty good too.

VERY ENJOYABLE & A LOVELY VAMP ROMANCE

What a great start to a whole new Vampire world where they, and Werewolves, walk freely amongst us humans. New myths, cultures, lores, creatures and amazing characters are slowly unfolded as the story and romance nicely progresses.

Handsome, sexy, drool-worthy Angel, ahhh, Angel he's a Rock God and, along with his fellow Band members, are all Vampires but there's no groupies or darkness they all just seem pretty normal (with a few quirks) and he is also California's Clan Leader over the Vampires. Brea is a feisty when angry redheaded Waitress who fears the paranormals but when she's about to take Angel's order one night and their eyes lock it's the start of something life altering for both of them. Delicious scenes unfold as Angel proves his weakness for Brea.

Great romance, sex, an evil villain or two who want Angel's job, a Vampire serial murderer, thrills, intrigue, suspense, fights, funny bits and some interesting, loveable and amusing secondary characters all get tossed into this enjoyable listen. Narrator's voice for Angel's character was just so sexy.

Worth a credit? I thought I had become a bit tired of Vampire romances..... but, after this, I was very wrong so DJ please keep em coming and YES creditworthy and a 'lighter' side to Vamps.

✫✫ 3.5 Stars ✫✫

I enjoyed this PNR, it was fun and kinda sweet. It wasn't crazy deep which I think is exactly what I needed today. I enjoyed the characters, the sex was hot and the action was pretty high. I will be moving on to book 2!

Narration was good too.

A Paranormal mystery ...

Any additional comments?

Rock star and vampire clan leader Angel Knight meets Brea Hunt when she waits on him at a local restaurant. Attracted to her, Angel hires Brea to help plan a party. During the week it takes to plan the party sparks fly between Angel and Brea and it gets hot! Meanwhile a serial killer is on the loose and all signs point to a vampire killer. When Brea becomes the next target, Angel joins forces with the human police force to find her.

Out of the Dark is Book 1 of the Forbidden Love series. Ms. James creates a world of vampires and werewolves that stand side by side with humans.

Mr. DeVoe does great job giving each character their own voice. He shows plenty of emotion and has good pacing in his narrating. He kept me coming back to find out what was going to happen next.

I would recommend this book to my friends who enjoy a good sexy vampire story. I look forward to listening to more books in this series and also to more of Mr. DeVoe's work.

Whipped. And not in the kinky way.

(Spoilers head)

I'm not sure why this book was given such rave reviews - it's not bad, but it has a lot wrong with it. For one, the narrator, Robert DeVoe kept pronouncing words wrong: bodice was "boh-diss" and chaste was "chahst" - I'm wondering why the editors didn't catch this. He was also reading it in a very monotone, robotic valley-guy kind of way that got old real fast. He did well with the women's voices tho.

Also, there are names that should be retired in certain genres. Like if you name a werewolf Jacob and stick him with a human named Bella. I think it's safe to say no one since the late 90s should name a vampire Angel. There's already one that's legendary and if you're going to go there, at least make a quip about Buffy.

Lastly, the heroine of this story was horrible. She's a Mary Sue with naturally red-as-a-rose hair and violet eyes (cause that happens, right?) She's whiney and throws tantrums for no reason. She acts a bit slutty while working for the guy then throws a fit because he pays her. Like a whore. Not because she just worked a huge important party for him that he was paying for her anyway... And the big, hulking, rich, rockstar vampire? He takes it and feels bad for whatever he did no matter what fit she pitched. Soooo whipped. He falls to pieces without her. Literally. And of course, what cheesy romance is without a bun in the oven? The baby is a Renesme clone.

I read a lot of fluff so I don't have very high standards in this genre but this book left me feeling iffy about the credit I spent. I doubt I'll move on to the others. Too much cheese and griefs. I'm sorry if this sounded negative but I was aggravated by the time I finished and couldn't believe the good reviews.

Now you know. Save the credit.

Not very good..

OK, I didn’t really like Angel or Brea. She went off the deep end when she found out what his tattoo meant. And he had his own little pity party, including curled up in a ball and waiting for death because he felt so bad over the tattoo and what it meant for him, without telling her, and her leaving him. He was so love-sick and she was such a bi*ch. Angel was so angsty and childish for someone 300 years old.

As I read I figured this was written by a young person or an older one who wrote it for a teeny-bopper. I mean, Angel used his stardom as cover for his travels to other cities and countries for his vampire meetings, since he was a leader of the clan and didn’t want anyone to know it, YET when they went out with Brea he was dressed in a silk shirt, leather pants, gold hoops in his ears and a braid down his backbone? AND he used glamour to make sure no one recognized him? So, why did he dress like a teenager instead of like a 300 year old man? And Jacque wore a ring through his eyebrow and earrings that matched it. Again, they are all OLD so I have to wonder why they needed to look like that when no one could see them as the rock band. I can’t see myself reading anymore from this author when she has her “heroes” looking so teenager-ish.

I seem to be in the minority, along with the other 29 critical reviews on Amazon and the 8 on Audible, so I went over to Goodreads, where my 1386 reviews and ratings are listed, and found there’s a lot more 1 and 2 star reviews that agree with me, Angel is whipped and Brea is a bi*ch, and by the time she became somewhat likable it was too late. I love vamp books but I like my leading men to look and act like men and the heroines to act like they have some sense.

I skipped most of the sex because I didn’t like Angel or Brea but I read enough to know it was explicit. Brea was a virgin but that didn’t stop her from giving Angel a blow job when she made him “hot and bothered.” Later, he reciprocated. It was a few days later, for his 300 birthday, that she thought it would be a perfect gift to give him her virginity. Yeah, she thought a lot of herself.

Overall, this could have been a good book but it was just too immature.

There was swearing and the F-bomb was used 4 times.

As to the narrator: Wow, I don’t know what to say. For a minute he would read like a robot and then he would read with all kinds of emotions, then he’d go back to reading soooo boringly. And sometimes the women would sound like women and sometimes they sounded like men. This narrator was all over the place.

Life Among the Supernatural!

I will admit that I accidentally listened to the the second story before listening to this one. I realized what I had done but I found the story so good that I ended up finishing it. I finally got back to this series and knew I had to start this story. I'm glad I did because I missed out details that were pertinent to the series. Danielle James has created a unique and intriguing series. I especially like her take on vampires and she changed the lore on have to kill vampires, she changed it from all the typical and boring way vampires does in all the other stories and movies. I absolutely LOVED the majority of all the characters in this story. This series shows us just how gifted and talented Danielle James truly is.
Robert Neil DeVoe did a fantastic job with his telling of Out of the Dark. I thought his accents of the male voices were done really well but his voice and accent changes were done exceptionally well. I would recommend this story to anyone. Overall, I give this story a perfect 5 🌟 rating.

Great Listen

We meet our cast of Vampires, Weres and the like. This was a dynamic story of mystery and suspense. The author does a great job of bringing the characters to life and giving them a great backstory to lend credence to their present decisions. There is great depth to this one, romance, heat and sexy characters.

Awesom!

Paranormal Romance

If you could sum up Out of the Dark in three words, what would they be?

Waitress loves vampire- it's a pretty simplistic synopsis. The waitress, Bri, is terrified of paranormals, after being stalked by a werewolf 2 years ago. She meets Angel Night, a rockstar and vampire, and he woos her. There's a murder mystery, some sex, and an HEA

What other book might you compare Out of the Dark to and why?

I wouldn't really compare it. It's definitely a reluctant, paranormal, rockstar, mystery, romance. You can't really sub-group this one.

Which scene was your favorite?

The epilogue, which I can't really tell you about here, because that would be a major spoiler! Suffice it to say that Frida, the housekeeper's reaction to a "situation" made me laugh out loud!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I wish! It's too long to listen in one sitting. I have too many interruptions in my life for that!

Any additional comments?

I totally enjoyed the voice actor's interpretation of this story. My only disappointment was his "French accent", and pronunciations, were atrocious. Thankfully the French portions were few, and the rest of his performance was stellar!
