Publisher's summary

An all wolf-shifter police force has been the only thing between humans and an unknown evil for centuries, but the pack is in danger of dying if they don't find their promised mates soon.

Trevor Burbank is a shifter cop in a world of humans who don't know the evil that wants them dead. If he does his job well, the humans will never need to know, but he feels like he's working against the clock because his pack is about to die. The females have all been killed, and the half-breeds they make when they mate with humans aren't usually skilled or strong enough to fight.

Gabriela Carmi has lost almost everything that means anything to her way too fast and now she feels like she's losing her mind too. On a quest to find something that won't reveal itself to her, she feels as if she's pining for someone who may not exist. So when an evil presence begins to follow her, she isn't sure if her mind is slowly falling apart or if the impossible is actually coming true. And when an instant attraction sparks between her and the handsome police officer sent to help her, it makes matters worse and better at the same time.

It's a race against time to find the angel/human hybrid "One True Mates" that the pack's spiritual leaders say truly exist. Saving the all the shifter clans is on everyone's mind, except for the chosen, the One True Mates, most of whom don't even know who or what they really are or why they seem to be slowly losing their minds.

Steamy. Light swearing. High heat. You've never experienced a shifter romance like this before.

Great read and OK listen..

I was wondering if this book was going to be any good since it started kinda slow and the hero and heroine didn’t meet until page 25. But it got better and better and their meeting was worth the wait. (((He noticed her pulse beating in her neck and he watched it, fascinated by the bluish tinge he saw at the delicate cut of her collarbone. She was cold. He should offer her a coat. His truck to warm up in. Or to drive. Maybe to have as her own. Or he could get her a new furnace for her house. Or give her his house to live in as long as she wanted. Or how about a ring, a big one, just in case she liked that kind of thing. A woman like her really shouldn’t go without..))) When the narrator read this I had to stop and laugh my A$$ off. The more he read it the faster he read and the more excited he sounded. It was just fantastic.

Anyway, I really like Troy and Trent, Trevor’s brothers that couldn’t shift out of wolf form, they were just awesome, but didn’t like Mac and wasn’t sure I would, he was such an A-hole. AND the author made Ella into an absolute whinny, frightened, wimp. I really had a hard time liking her, so I was hoping she’d get better as time went on. She did. And she had some kind of power, too.

I also liked Wade and Graeme. This was a completely different kind of shifter story.

There was swearing in this book and the F-bomb was used 34 times. AND there were 3 sex scenes. Romantic sex, not erotic.

As to the narrator: Wow, I don’t even know where to start. I loved him one minute then I would hate him. He had great voices for the men and the women sounded like women and when something exciting happened he would be excited, he would yell, whisper, laugh, whatever. But, boy, when there were long periods where Wade would tell a long winded story Michael Pauley would read like a complete robot. It was awful. He could have been a 5 star narrator but he just didn’t quite make it.

Just no.

This is the longest I've listened into a book before I had to abandon it, and I went all the way up to chapter 46. It paces terribly. The two main characters meet for the first time at Chapter 14. And while the listener knows all about werewolves a minute into it, the heroine thinks she's losing her mind all the way up to Chapter 28 (half way). The book is so preoccupied with making you understand the deep agonies and sorrows of each character that it just doesn't get on with it. And the villain is the worst. Speaking of the villain, this book is about as much about werewolves as the Black Dagger Brotherhood is about vampires. Not really at all. As far as comparisons with BDB, the sex scenes are great, but few. And frankly, its just not nearly as enjoyable. This audiobook has its own convoluted theology with everything explained in painful detail and nothing shown. I listened to 6 hours give or take, and it was the longest 10 hours of my life.

Good Story

I enjoyed this storyline. It is a different take on the wolf shifter. I recommend this to anyone who likes shifter stories. I also enjoy Michael Pauley as a narrator. I have listened to a few other books he has narrated and I do enjoy his voice and his narration!

Great Idea for a different type of shifter world

I loved this twist on the normal shifter world I usually read about. The story line was a little slow for me and the romance was a little dull. Seriously the idea was great and some of the details were awesome but it just needed a little more for me to love it.

I'm trying not to judge the book by the narration but I think the narration may have been what fell flat for me. He has a great voice but his lack of inflection was hard for me to get past.

Sadly This Wasn't Not For Me....

I normally love a good PNR, but this one not so much. It didn't hold my attention, and I had to rewind it several times. The writing and dialogue between the characters was frustrating and not really appealing. I didn't care for the characters, well except for Trent and Troy, but not the rest of them. I tried to make to the end but gave around 50%, I'm a firm believer if it doesn't hold my attention, I'm going to move on to the next audiobook. There are too many audios I really want to listen to for me to torture myself with a story I really don't care for. Others may like this story and that's perfectly fine, but sadly this one is not for me. I neither recommend the story or discourage it, just stating my thoughts.

Different & Loved It!

Although this is a shifter book, it has a different spin on things. It sucked me into their world from the very start. Wolf shifters are called Wolven's. and their mates & future mates have all been killed. There is a prophesy about the Wolvens and their one true mate. Although book one does a good wrap up on the story line that it started, I am so involved in the surrounding characters that I immediately went to look for the 2nd book in the series. The other characters have so much to give to the ongoing plot that I NEEDED to know their story.

Another thing I liked about the book was that IT HAD A PLOT. It wasn't endless sex just for that reason alone. If there was a love scene it was because it had a place in the ongoing story. Yea! an author is finally listening that we don't want the sex scenes just because they can write them. We want substance in our shifter romance stories. Well, at least I do. I felt invested in the story line. I want to know what is going on with the other characters and want them to have an exciting journey along with the HEA that we all look for.

I must keep my eyes glued to Audible for the next book in a series that is sure to win the hearts of others - just like it did for me.

The narrator really did have a voice that I could relate to as a Wolven.
