Publisher's Summary

The new breathtaking novel from the number-one New York Times best-selling author of the This Man trilogy.

One night will never be enough….

Livy notices him the moment he walks into the coffee shop. He's heart-stoppingly stunning, with a blue-eyed gaze so piercing she's almost too distracted to take his order. When he walks out the door, she thinks she'll never see him again. Then she finds the note he left on his napkin - signed M.

All he wants is one night to worship her. No feelings, no commitment, nothing but pleasure. Every defense mechanism Livy has adopted during her solitary life is at risk of being obliterated by this confounding man. He's obnoxious but well-mannered. He's a gentleman but aloof. He's passionate but emotionless. Yet the fascination is so powerful, Livy can't deny him - or herself.

M awakens something in Livy, something deep and addictive that she never knew existed - and that she fears only he can satisfy. But she senses that behind the fast cars, fancy suits, and posh apartment, he's aching inside. To have him, body and soul, she'll have to brave his dark secrets. Delving into his world and breaking down his defenses become her obsession - an obsession that could shatter her heart beyond repair.

Heart warming and yet Heart Wrenching...

Wow. What can I say about this book? I could not put it down!!!. It was a wonderful read. It was funny, it was charming, there was suspense but yet intrigue. I don't enough words to explain this book. It was more than exquisite!. It was classy, but still relate-able; shocking and very unexpected in so many ways. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I love this author, and the narrator definitely brought something extra to the book. I think I have found a new author to follow. Whew... what a read!

OH MALPAS!!! YOUR WRITING IS AMAZING!

When you have the combination of a vivid writer such as Jodi Ellen Malpas, paired with the talented narration of Edita Brychta, it is a feast for the senses, the heart, and the mind, as the story is told in such a magnificent way! After reading/listening to the "This Man" series, I was going through withdrawals because I wanted more....Thankfully, Malpas has gifted readers with what seems to be another fantastic trilogy!

Yes, it's true that the story surrounding Livy, a sweet but guarded stunning woman, and the drop-dead gorgeous, yet mysterious "M" certainly feels like a variation of Jessie and Ava's story, from the "This Man" series, but let me tell you, I DON"T CARE....Malpas can continue writing a thousand variations, and I'd be in bliss....Jessie Cloud 9, or something similar-kind of bliss...Hahaha! Yet, it's important to emphasize that even though the style of writing in this book is vintage Malpas, Livy and 'M's" romance catapults into their own unique story that will dazzle and keep readers intrigued.

I found Livy to be a very likable female lead, and her need to live and care for her grandmother added a special aspect to this story. I also enjoyed Livy's friends, who although are limited, are fun and very protective of her.

Now Mr. "M"....mmmmmm, where should I start? --Yes, he is mysterious, devilishly attractive, demonstrates impeccable manners, yet I like that he has his own neurotic tendencies that gave him a vulnerable kind of charm.

Livy and "M" have instant die-hard attraction for one another. The love scenes are steamy, and packed with longevity and stamina....LOL. "M" is emotionally as closed off as a fortress, and initially insists on only spending 24 hours of passionate indulgences with Livy, yet he definitely sees that she is special and wants more from her. I loved that he was able to come to the point where he could acknowledge a need for Livy that was powerful and pushed him to pursue her relentlessly (well, nowhere near Jessie Ward-stalker style, but still pretty relentless). I loved how "M" felt that his relationship with Livy was worth fighting for.

But, alas this book doesn't end well, and I blame Livy for that one. I think she did wrong, and that makes the wait for the release of the next book even more excruciating!!!!! There are devastating revelations about both Livy and "M's" history, but Livy didn't accept "M's" history as well as he accepted hers. OMG!!! Right when things were going to well for both Livy and M!!!!! BAM!!!.....PLEASE CAN WE FAST FORWARD TO NOVEMBER ALREADY????

THIS WAS A GREAT START TO THE SERIES....CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT DEVELOPMENTS THE 2ND INSTALLMENT HAS IN STORE FOR READERS/LISTENERS.......

Nothing like an abusive relationship dynamic...

This storyline may have been well constructed, but the emotionally abusive dynamic in this story was absolutely awful. I found myself at times wanting to scream at Livy to run away, because great sex doesn't make up for being a prisoner.

ONE NIGHT IS WHAT I GLADLY GAVE UP TO HEAR THIS

After JEM's This Man trilogy I thought we'd seen the best of her imaginative, emotion filled, erotic and twisted love stories but this, phew, this was a very highly charged ride through the attraction and passion of two mentally tortured people's lives and the people who surround them. And, as their lives both inevitably entwine, the listener is gifted with troubled waters of secrets, insecurities, drama, obsession, heartache, more secrets, revelations, suspense and lots and lots of intrigue.

No words can describe just how emotional this book is as it's flawed characters are loveable in their own way and very needy of each other but the many twists that fate deals them can result in only one thing..... DEVASTATION. And that's how I felt at the end of the raw bitter cliffhanger, an open mouthed shocked gasp as yet another twist was oh so cleverly tossed in.

Worth the credit? I am writing this Review knowing I'm going to be late for a shopping trip with a friend but I just had to get my words and feelings out about this listen whose character's lives has only let me get about 2 hours sleep because I didn't want to stop the intense mystery with a destination unknown, damaged characters and a deep unhealthy, yet compelling, love story. I would have gladly used two credits on this listen, so YES very creditworthy and, if book 2 is out in print, I'm even considering READING, yes actually reading it, because the storyline and characters are just that gripping. If you get this listen be prepared to become a Malpas groupie and what a great team she, and Edita Brychta made.

Narrator too proper

The story was a bit slow moving, and it was difficult to fall into. The narrator sounded much older and too proper. Her voice conflicted with the age of the characters and modern story line.

I wanted to fall in love ... but did not happen

Any additional comments?

Hmmm... To be 100% honest... I was a tiny bit disappointed with the new male character "Miller". I really wanted to fall in love again but I just couldn't.
Jesse Ward still is the number one man in my heart... <3

The book started off with a bit of mystery with a scene that only makes sense until you actually reach the end of the book and you realize that your first assumption was very wrong. So I liked that unpredictability. The story that unfolds is really "plain" in a way if I may say. Miller has many quirks and besides his perfect masculine outside form I do not see much more to him. Some sense of humor could have really worked for Miller.

There is beauty in Livy and Miller's sexual encounters which is a skill that Jodi Ellen has mastered and proved it yet again. We see the connection growing and reaching a crescendo at the end, which is not a happy ending.

I love Jodi's writing style. Please add more suspense and more action to the next one! I will buy the sequel because, similarly to "this man" the later in the story, the more fluid everything becomes.

HORRIBLE--SLOW--EXCRUCIATING TO LISTEN TO

Would you try another book from Jodi Ellen Malpas and/or Edita Brychta?

NO.... I deleted all from my wish list

What do you think your next listen will be?

Currently listening to The Resistance by S.L. Scott and it's WAYYY better

How could the performance have been better?

I have no idea.. the story sucked so the performance sucked.. it was drawn out... slow and dull

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Anger.. disappointment... irritation... and SADNESS for the my ears and the credit I lost getting this crap

Any additional comments?

The Longest 15 Hours of My Life!!

What disappointed you about One Night: Promised?

I am still confused about the plot in this book. The story line was like coming into the middle of a conversation. If the book was part of a series, I could understand it better, but no such luck. On top of that, the climax left me standing there with nowhere to go and lots of questions. What??????

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator was so slow, I had to speed up the timing of my listen. And then it was still too long.
