Publisher's summary

Lady Philippa Marbury is...odd.

The brilliant, bespectacled daughter of a double marquess cares more for books than balls, for science than the season, and for laboratories than love. She's looking forward to marrying her simple fiancé and living out her days quietly with her dogs and her scientific experiments. But before that, Pippa has two weeks to experience all the rest - 14 days to research the exciting parts of life. It's not much time, and to do it right she needs a guide familiar with London's darker corners.

She needs...a Scoundrel.

She needs Cross, the clever, controlled partner in London's most exclusive gaming hell, with a carefully crafted reputation for wickedness. But reputations often hide the darkest secrets, and when the unconventional Pippa boldly propositions him, seeking science without emotion, she threatens all he works to protect. He is tempted to give Pippa precisely what she wants...but the scoundrel is more than he seems, and it will take every ounce of his willpower to resist giving the lady more than she ever imagined.

Not for me

I just couldn’t connect with this story. Most of the time I’m captured by a good book especially with this narrator. Unfortunately, the best narrator can’t help the overall story line. It was just stupid and predictable.

Science

Loved it. Pippa is a great female character. She is the feminist of romance novels

great story / too much sex

I love this story. however, I feel that there was far too much sex entwined and too much detail of the Act. what could have been an amazing clean story, turned out to be quite pornographic. if you like this type of thing then you will love this book. if you don't then you can fast-forward through the parts that you do not care to hear. it disgusts me how many writers feel they must put details of such a sacred Act into their stories. this author has an amazing ability to tell great stories. I wish that she didn't feel that she had to make her stories trashy to sale.

Not bad, but not a favorite.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I enjoyed the book, but I hoped for more. It was pleasant, so I would say time well spent

What did you like best about this story?

The narrator is consistently excellent.

Which character – as performed by Rosalyn Landor – was your favorite?

Her male voices, in general are always very good.

Was One Good Earl Deserves a Lover worth the listening time?

It was worth the time, but I feel that the author missed the mark, a little.

Any additional comments?

The "imperfect fingers" thing was meant to be endearing but was kind of wierd. The six years of celibacy was far-fetched. I didn't really buy it. Maybe if it had been explained better. It was a sexy book, but I think that Digger's motives were shaky. I didn't really believe that character. Also, I am always a little frustrated when characters don't simply talk about what sorts of conflicts are happening. I realize that the point is to create conflict, but it feels pretty convoluted sometimes. This was a decent book, though. I don't regret buying it, I just think it could have been executed better.

Sarah MacLean is my Favorite!

You simply can't miss with Sarah MacLean and Rosalyn Landor. I have read some of the negative comments and I simply cannot disagree more. The first book of this series was the first book I had listened to by Sarah. I absolutely cannot wait for more on Audible! :) Thank you both for the book and the performance.

The Pippa and Cross relationship is intriguing. I do wish there had been more interaction with Penelope and Bourne from the first book. I think mingling them into the action would have been interesting. But, nonetheless, the books is fun!

It Had It's Moments...

I have to remember that I don't like this narrator.. personal preference kind of thing.. I just do not care for the voice she uses for the Hero in her narration.. ugh.. so I'm sure that influenced my feelings about the book in total... I like quirky so I especially liked the heroine of this book - total quirky!... Sarah MacLean did a good job of making me care what happened to her and to our Hero. I would have liked a bit more action and a little less talk or description but again, a personal preference. The story was creative and entertaining as our nerdy Heroine seeks to do her research on what's expected on her wedding night. Unfortunately (and somewhat unbelievably), she choose a rogue and scoundrel to find her answers. This was a bit of a stretch but I suspended my disbelief and went with it... and I'm glad I did. The book was entertaining with a satisfying ending.

Steamy slow burn, fantastic characters

Jasper/Cross and Pippa are smart, compelling characters that have a steamy slow burn throughout the book. I like the matching of strong and intellectual leads in a well told story.

I appreciated how this book offers some unique parts to the typical historical romance storyline. The two leads have a sensual interaction in Cross’ office where he doesn’t touch her at all. He guides her through the exploration of herself with such description than it was a smoldering encounter. Their subsequent intimate moments are equally or more sensual than the last.

I’ve enjoyed the first two books in this series and look forward to the rest.

*sigh* Really Cross?

The storyline was great and I enjoyed it. However .... There were moments where I wished I could smack Cross upside the head. The "oh woe is me" "I'm ,no good for you. You deserve more. you'd end up hating me." blah blah. I wished I could shake him!
