Publisher's Summary

In One Dance with a Duke, the first novel in Tessa Dare's delightful new trilogy, secrets and scandals tempt the irresistible rogues of the Stud Club to gamble everything for love.

A handsome and reclusive horse breeder, Spencer Dumarque, the fourth Duke of Morland, is a member of the exclusive Stud Club, an organization so select it has only 10 members - yet membership is attainable to anyone with luck. And Spencer has plenty of it, along with an obsession with a prize horse, a dark secret, and, now, a reputation as the dashing "Duke of Midnight". Each evening he selects one lady for a breathtaking midnight waltz. But none of the women catch his interest, and nobody ever bests the duke - until Lady Amelia d'Orsay tries her luck.

In a moment of desperation, the unconventional beauty claims the duke's dance and unwittingly steals his heart. When Amelia demands that Spencer forgive her scapegrace brother's debts, she never imagines that her game of wits and words will lead to breathless passion and a steamy proposal. Still, Spencer is a man of mystery, perhaps connected to the shocking murder of the Stud Club's founder. Will Amelia lose her heart in this reckless wager - or win everlasting love?

Typical Romance

I did enjoy the telling of "One Dance With a Duke." For those of us who enjoy the occasional romance, this was a lovely story and telling. I will admit that even I was slightly annoyed by the main characters constant "misunderstanding" of her love interested, but overall enjoyed the story and would recommend it to other readers who enjoy a light-hearted romance. I think I will continue with the series.

Thank goodness that is over!

I thought this book would never end. The plot is paper thin. The Duke's sudden love for Amelia is inexplicable and unbelievable. The premise of the Stud Club is beyond stupid. None of the characters were likable and Amelia was downright unlikable - the most unlivable heroine in any romance novel I have read. The whole thing was boring beyond belief but I suffer from OCD as far as finishing books I have started so I hung in to the bitter and stupid end. I will not read any additional books in this series because there is no one that I care enough about to find out what happens to them.

To make matters worse, the narrator was mediocre at best. I would have done a better job of giving the characters their own voice if I had read it to myself. Most disappointing performance of a disappointing book.

Great story with several story lines

Fantastic story. You just have to get past the narrator doing the male voice in a female tone

A chance meeting with a Duke

I thought Leslie Bellair did an excellent job with narration in another one of Tessa Dare's great love stories.A well rounded book, with intrigue, mystery, steamy moments, murder and hard decisions.Spencer unwillingly becomes a duke, trying to preserve a spot for his ward in London society he forces himself amongst those in society who will pave the way for his ward in finding a suitable husband. What ends up happening is he finds himself accosted by an overprotective sister needing to get her brother out of a debt owed to him.Murder starts off this story,a mystery to solve, romance budding between the duke and Amelia,a marriage arrangement, accusations and a huge secret, keep the couple in constant drama, choosing between loyalty to family or loyalty and trust between eachother they weave their way through this tale finding true understanding and love, tough love.

A lovely story

Would you listen to One Dance with a Duke again? Why?

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and getting to know the characters. Plenty of things were going on to keep the pace up and I am excited to get to the next in this series. Even though in some areas of Audible it says the next 2 in this series is not available, look for them by their name, they are available.

More sex than romance or story

Which, if that what your looking for, is fairly well described. But I would have liked more story.

Strong characters and narration...

Wonderful story . Fantastic, strong characters that'll stay with you for a long time. I was so sad when the book came to an end. I definitely will be looking for more written by Tessa Dare.
Narration by Leslie Bellair was impeccable too. Well done! Don't hesitate.
A word of advice though... Do not listen to this with children in earshot.
