Publisher's Summary

She's a mortal cursed with dark power....

After a tragic accident scarred her body and destroyed her dreams, Leila never imagined that the worst was still to come: a terrifying ability to channel electricity and to see a person's darkest secrets through a single touch. Leila is doomed to a life of solitude ... until creatures of the night kidnap her, forcing her to reach out with a telepathic distress call to the world's most infamous vampire.

He's the Prince of Night....

Vlad Tepesh inspired the greatest vampire legend of all - but whatever you do, don't call him Dracula. Vlad's ability to control fire makes him one of the most feared vampires in existence, but his enemies have found a new weapon against him: a beautiful mortal with powers to match his own. When Vlad and Leila meet, passion ignites, threatening to consume them. It will take everything they have to stop an enemy intent on bringing them down in flames.

    "great read"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

you get to know more of vlad tepesh character and his dry humour if any have not read any of the series of cat and bones ie night huntress series you must they are all great and that where you meet vlad tepesh first . A good book but waiting for number two for vlad and leila to really establish a proper relaitionship book ends with that thought in mind leaves you wanting more.

    "oh yes, worth the credit!"

What did you like best about this story?

i like that this author takes her time with the characters, they don't just fall in love the first second they meet, it develops over time

What about Tavia Gilbert’s performance did you like?

Tavia Gilbert is fantastic, while occassionally i am not sure about the accents, there is always a distinct difference between the characters and her timing is great. she can deliver sarcasim with the best!!

"Don't Miss This One! More With Vlad!"
Would you listen to Once Burned again? Why?

Yes! J. Frost's stories are always solid enough for a second visit...Vlad is a compelling and fun character, and I'm sure I will return to this story soon as I wait for a continuing installment. I'm anxious to be there to see what happens next!

What did you like best about this story?

Vlad! The world Frost creates..the way Vlad has his people and his world set up around him and how he likes to control it. Following that, I would have to say the writing in general, and the supporting characters also...the way it all works together.

    Which scene was your favorite?

It's hard to pick just one...but two favorites I would have to say are (not to give too much of a spoiler) is Vlad arriving at the hotel/motel room to "rescue" Leila when she's captive, and of course their first love scene.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Nothing that extreme..I did laugh at a couple of moments. The way Frost writes the emotions and the love stories of her characters really does touch your heart, but just not in a way to literally make you cry.

    Any additional comments?

Anxiously awaiting more entertaining, great stories from Frost. Looking forward to more with Vlad and Leila; also can't wait for more with Cat and Bones in the next Night Huntress book. Please bring it on, Ms. Frost - your fans are waiting!

    "love this lovable tenderhearted Dracula!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you love the Cat and Bones stories, this book will not disappoint. Great stand alone, you don't have to have read the Cat stories to understand this one.

What did you like best about this story?

This book has some great funny parts, laugh out loud at the frustrations of being "Dracula", but it's also sweet if you know Vlad's romantic heart and protective instincts. He always seemed to come in 2nd place, but not this time! And where he finds his soul mate?! What a great setting for that character.

Which character – as performed by Tavia Gilbert – was your favorite?

In this book, Tavia hits all the right notes, she gets Vlad's personality just right and now Lelia also. Tavia is great with Bones. I love her accents and male voices. I would never actually read one of these books, Tavia Gilbert makes listening to them better than going to the movies.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, listened to it straight thru, all one night.

    "Good Start"
Would you consider the audio edition of Once Burned to be better than the print version?

    Very Much So

What was one of the most memorable moments of Once Burned?

Experiencing the vulnerable side of Valad

What does Tavia Gilbert bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Tavia has the ability to draw you into the character. Her range of voices is extraordinary which brings the book to life.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Moved would not be the word I would use. Books with relationships building the reader knows that at one point or two the suspense builds, and for a split second you wonder if this was going to be the time that it does not work. So when Frankie was burning…..

    Any additional comments?

Jeaniene Frost has created an exceptional world with very likable believable characters. You can feel their joy and pain and they interact very well together. I look forward to more Night Prince, as he has always been my favorite character from the Night Huntress series.

Where does Once Burned rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    In the top 10

What other book might you compare Once Burned to and why?

All the night huntress series because it explores the other characters of the storyline.

    Which scene was your favorite?

When she received the fancy gloves to protect her from hurting anyone. It showed he thought she deserved to look elegant and be treated like a lady.

Would you consider the audio edition of Once Burned to be better than the print version?

I would as the performance is excellent and enhances the story and strengthens the characters.

    Any additional comments?

As I have read the Huntress series and Vlad was a strong support character in those books - this book develops his story line. The book is free standing and is not affected if you have not read the Huntress series. LOVED this book will read it again without a doubt.

"Another great book form Jeanine Frost"
What made the experience of listening to Once Burned the most enjoyable?

I have been a fan of Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress World books for years and Once Burned did not disappoint.
It is only recently that I have begun to listen to audiobooks, as I do not have the time to read books as much as I used to or want to.
Not only does the story draw you into the world Jeaniene has created, but Tavia Gilbert does an excellent job as a narrator with her natural flow, pleasant voice, her ability to express specific feelings in a single sentence as well as using different voices and accents for each character. There are a few accents/voices I think could use a little improving, but overall I love Tavia Gilbert's work.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely, I have read the book in one sitting and have listened to the audiobook quite a few times so far.

    "Nice reading "

This is a nice piece of reading if you like vampires and romance mixed together. :) So many of us likes bad boys with pure golden hearts only for us. And we can easily placed ourselves in main character’s skin. I couldn’t give it full marks only because I like Vlad Dracula in a different version. If the main vampire had a different name it would be totally 5 stars. But all together the story is good. We have love and drama and damsel in distress who actually can take care for herself. And we have a juicy moments too. And the vampires don’t sparkle :) I don’t have experience in romance books but I think this one will satisfy my needs more than love stories placed in non supernatural worlds.

    "awesome"

I was actually introduced to this author through this knight Prince series with Vlad and Leyla. I loved it so much I went off to find out what else she'd written, realised these books sit within the whole other story arc of the knight huntress world with cat and bones and promptly started working my way through that series.

firstly if you too didn't realise these books are stories within a larger story I highly recommend reading the whole series in order. I've seriously enjoyed it.

secondly this is my second read/listen to Vlad and layla's story, because I wanted to listen again knowing the fuller context of the wider story arc, along with all the other characters, and I'm really glad I did. you by no means have to, I loved these books the first time before I realised the bigger story existed, but I'm really glad I have read them again within the bigger story arc because there are little references to things that have happened previously that I now understand this time round, because ' I was there' in a previous book, which, for me, just makes the stories a little richer, but as I said by no means necessary.

the vlad and Leyla story arc within the night huntress world is really great and this book doesn't let that good rep down, even on my second read/listen I enjoyed it immensely. there's a real wicked sense of humour that runs through the V & L storyline that I love, but aside from that this story has yet another really intersting twist on what can happen within the supernatural world that Jeaniene Frost is so good at. loved it.

    "An enjoyable read... Or listen!"
What made the experience of listening to Once Burned the most enjoyable?

I enjoyed the take on the age old Vlad the Impaler legend.

Did Tavia Gilbert do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?

I think it's important to note that the male main character in this book has a Romanian accent. Tavia Gilbert managed to do an okay job with this, better than most attempts at accents in audiobooks, and as the story goes on you get used to it a bit more. However, if I'm honest, I could only *just* stand it. If the story hadn't been as compelling, I would not have been able to listen to it. There are a couple of other accents attempted which were terrible. In particular, what was supposed to be an English accent was unbearable. As an English woman, it was cringeworthy to hear our accent butchered. Thankfully that particular character is only in it for a short scene. Although be aware that the spin-off of this series features the same character as it's main protagonist.
I would like the sample to have included a section with Tavia speaking with the "Romanian" accent. It is an important factor to many listeners.

    Any additional comments?

The actual story is great. It's a nice, laid back, easy listen and I throughly enjoyed the storyline. I perfect balance of action and romance, with some great passion.
