Publisher's summary

Jocelyn Butler has been hiding from her past for years. But all her secrets are about to be laid bare…

Four years ago, Jocelyn left her tragic past behind in the States and started over in Scotland, burying her grief, ignoring her demons, and forging ahead without attachments. Her solitary life is working well - until she moves into a new apartment on Dublin Street where she meets a man who shakes her carefully guarded world to its core.

Braden Carmichael is used to getting what he wants, and he’s determined to get Jocelyn into his bed. Knowing how skittish she is about entering a relationship, Braden proposes an arrangement that will satisfy their intense attraction without any strings attached.

But after an intrigued Jocelyn accepts, she realizes that Braden won’t be satisfied with just mind-blowing passion. The stubborn Scotsman is intent on truly knowing her...down to the very soul.

Didn't live up to the hype for me

I don't understand why I didn't like this book. We had an alpha male, a bit flawed, and very rich. We had the female lead being very flawed and opposed to the idea of the alpha male. The chemistry was good, the sex scenes were hot and still I could not really get into this book. I really wanted to, had great expectations to be down loading the next book ASAP but the story just had flaws for me that made it impossible to work.

I think I was into the book until the male and female lead got together. I think it all went down hill from there. It was too easy after that, and it lacked the grrr of the alpha male, he was just a bit too understanding. I would have put this in romance not erotica, and not labeled it as alpha make territory. Overall I wouldn't have purchased it again, and I'm not buying number 2.

Twenty-something grows up

This was well written and real. I appreciated that the relationships developed on a pretty realistic timeline and that Joss got therapy and worked through her issues in a relationship timeline with believable mistakes. The story is just a bit too much young person angst for me.

10 Shades of Grey lol Not worth the read.

I struggled to finish this. Too predictable. Accent was good. Story is a snooze fest.

Now this is what Erotic Romance is all about.

Absolutely fantastic. I haven't been touched by a book like this in a long time. I loved all the characters in the book, Ellie, Adam, and Dr. Pritchard.

Joss aka Jocelyn is brave, wonderful and so real. For someone so young and who had lost so much; she is incredibly self-suffient and independent. That independence keeps her safe; safe from developing close relationships with others in fear that they can lead to further loss. I saw alot of myself in Joss, my younger 22 year old self.

I love the fact the Joss knows she has issues, but that Braden, that special someone, won't let those issues stop him from forcing himself into her life. Braden was the right man, at the right time and strong enough to be with Joss.

This is what Erotic Romance should be; passionate, uplifting, real and hopeful.

I highly recommend this book.

The audiobook narrated by Paula Costello who was fabulous.

New Favorite Author

The positive reviews are not lying, this is a well written book with excellent emotional development of the characters. In my experience on audible, the Romance fiction can be hit or miss when it comes to quality writing. This book is a hit! Loved the story which had me laughing, crying and everything in between. Lovely steamy bits too. Highly recommended.

Great book!

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this story. The characters are well developed and introduced slowly. I have noticed a theme with this author's book, all of her main characters come from a tragic accident that happens in the teen years. This gets obnoxious while reading, I can only listen to "poor pitiful me" for so long. I am torn on purchasing the next book in the series.

pretty good

I'm telling you, Joss got on my last nerve a lot of the time. The story was good enough to get through that annoyance though.

Life

The author ‘s style of writing was fresh and the
Characters and story line engaging. The spirit of each character was captured and I found myself laughing, crying and experiencing compassion. The narrator was exceptional! She made each character come alive and as she told the story it felt real and engaging. It has been a while since I have listened to a book that I enjoyed this much and did not want it to end. I will look for more books to enjoy by Samantha Young and especially those narrated by Paula Costello. I just felt like this book earned and deserved five stars overall! I Enjoyed it immensely!

A Very Emotional Read

First, wow...just simply wow. Jos is an emotional basket case. I don't want to give away any spoilers but toward the end, I had to turn it off. I was so emotional with how she was handling stuff I literally became stressed. Her character literally evoked extreme anger and frustration in me. At one point, my internal voice was raging at her for doing what she was doing to Bradyn...who I absolutely fell in love with. Now that, ladies, is the making of a great story. When an author can get you so involved that you have a visceral reaction, it is definitely worth a read.

A side note about Paula Costello: she flawlessly switched between American and Scottish and her lilting voice was a balm to my senses.
