Publisher's summary

Sophie Katz's relationship with the irresistible and occasionally insufferable P.I. Anatoly Darinsky is on the fritz when a friend recruits Sophie's investigation skills to decode her possibly two-timing husband's strange behavior. When Sophie shows up in a short, red cocktail dress and her friend's hubby winds up dead, the loveable would-be sleuth can't help but take on the job.

Suddenly plunged into a crazy world of campaign mudslinging, dirt-digging, and cover-ups, Sophie begins to uncover some pretty dirty secrets indeed, involving a conservative congressional hopeful's involvement in the Furry community, a group of people who dress up in mascot-size stuffed animal costumes. Sex and politics, wouldn't you know?

Way in over her head as usual, Sophie reluctantly, or not-so-reluctantly, enlists the help of her two-time sidekick and ex, Anatoly. Together they set out to determine who killed Eugene and why, and in the process can't resist falling for each other...again?

Solve another case with Sophie.

Story or political agenda?

This author's liberal political agenda is mentioned in almost every paragraph of the book. It's impossible to concentrate on the underlying story when the author interjects negative political comments throughout.

Great new talent

Kyra Davis' characters in the Sophie Katz series are hysterical! I liken the series to Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum adventures. However, where Evanovich's tales have grown stale, and her characters one dimensional, Kyra Davis' tale seem fresh and funny. I can't wait to see more from her!

Not as engaging as previous books

The first two books of this series were hilarious! This one was only so-so. I loved the Dena and Maryann dynamic in the first two books and in this one Dena hardly showed up at all! I guess it was the whole "furries" thing. NOBODY is into it. Well except for a select few.
An okay read if there is nothing else you are interested in. I sure wish I would have put my credit to better use.

Loved this book!

This is the third book Kyra Davis has done as a series to the adventures of Sophie Kates, the main character. I would suggest reading her first two books to fully enjoy this one. Just wished I had an Anatolli of my own. :)

Really Really Great

As in her other two books, Davis continues the tradition of imaginative and delightful characters that make you forget your own world and crawl into theirs for a bit. It was really a great book. I found myself washing extra dishes at home just so I could continue listening to the story while doing housework...it was really THAT good!

a fun light read

Sophie Katz is a fun character. In this book her former English teacher asks her to do a favor.
That's when the fun begins. Her old teacher wanted her to find out if her husband was cheating on her. Sophie can't say no since she feels obligated to her for getting her own career started. She sets it up to meet and flirt with the husband. The husband is not cheating and not taking Sophie's come on. So she leaves him and right after that he is shot to death. Melanie her old teacher asks Sophie to investigate who murdered her husband. Sophie gets her ex boyfriend Anatoly to help her and between them they uncover a furry secret and solve the mystery.
This is the third in her series. There are always lots of funny lines that make me laugh out loud. The story is not overly complicated or overloaded with people to keep track of. It's a fun and easy book to listen too. If you like some humor and a good paced story you will enjoy this series.

First and last of Sophie Katz

This is the first Sophie Katz book I've listened to and I wouldn't get another one. I kept waiting for it to get better, but it never happened. The character development was very poor, although maybe that was because this isn't the first in the series. The plot was slow moving and unbelievable. The heroine was really quite stupid for someone trying to investigate a murder. Maybe part of it was the narrator - even the characters sounded bored.

A Disappointment

Usually, Kyra Davis's books are a light, funny and entertaining read. Unfortunately, this book is nothing more than a trite political rant. It diminished the story content to a small minded political agenda. What a shame.

Why the good reviews?

I listened to this book based on the good reviews and the catchy title. I was unpleasantly disappointed. The first chapter or two were written well enough, but as the book progresses, it sounds like the author slipped into her high school persona. The dialog and plot got progressively amateurish. Perhaps it was because I heard this book on the heels of a James Lee Burke novel (if you want to hear a very well written book, listen to any of his Dave Robicheaux books) and the comparison was just too vivid. The narrator did a credible job, but she didn't have much to work with. Needless to say, this is my one and only Sophie Katz novel.

A great guilty pleasure

This is the first book I have read by Kyra Davis and I am hooked. A great plot and I love Sophie's character, she has great sarcastic wit. I actually caught myself laughing out loud at the gym. I wondered why people were giving me funny looks?!? :-) A++++++++++
