Brussels, 1915. A beautiful young Belgian woman, Louise, is being pursued by the Germans when she meets Ned Scott, a British army major also trying to flee. He is badly injured, and the unlikely pair find themselves at a hospital run by the famous Edith Cavell, who offers them both refuge. However no one is safe under the terrifying shadow of German occupation. As Louise finds herself falling for the major, details of her true identity emerge, causing the Germans to pursue her even more relentlessly.
Meanwhile the Major is torn between his desire to stand by the brave, heroic Edith and the knowledge that he must escape. Observed wherever they go, is there anyone these three people can trust?
The setting is around WW1 and during it.
The factual part is of the heroic efforts of EDITH CAVELL a nurse who helps escapees during the war. I live in Canada and I never before this book knew that one of our famous rocky mountains is named after her.
The fictional story is excellent - I just loved this book and had a hard time putting it down.
I am very sorry that I inadvertently wrote the review for the book Escape to London
