Publisher's summary

From New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Catherine Bybee comes the first novel in the delicious Not Quite series.

Waitress and single mom Jessica “Jessie” Mann is practical to a fault. Even if she had time to date, which she doesn’t, she’d be determined to provide her son with a more secure upbringing than the one she had - and that would mean a husband with big bucks. When Jack Morrison - a sexy-as-sin, seemingly broke customer with a cowboy hat and a seductive grin - tries to flirt with her, she shoots him down. She doubts a carefree dreamer like Jack can provide the financial stability she needs. Yet with Christmas just weeks away, and Jessie not wanting to spend it alone, the charming Texan is proving hard to resist.

As the heir to the Morrison luxury hotel empire, Jack is used to being fawned over. But Jack needs someone who will fall in love with him - not his wealth. He’s set his sights on Jessie, though her hardened heart just might get in the way.... To be sure, he conceals his true identity and offers to help Jessie find the rich husband she seeks. But Jack’s daring charade may rob him of the holiday wish he wants most of all....

Would definitely recommend!

The perfect romance story...not too predictable but everything you'd expect. All of the important characters were developed well. I felt the author nailed the 5-year-old perfectly (not that that was a huge part of the story but still). That's not always easy to do.

Okay

Any additional comments?

Okay but not great. I liked the H and h but the story was improbable and immature. The subsequent books in the series are better, especially Not Quite Forever. The series does not require being read in order. Each book does well as stand alone even though the characters are brought back in future books.

This book involves Jessie, who is a very poor single mother working as a waitress and trying to support herself and her child. Jack, an extremely rich young man , comes to town to work on one of his many hotels. He stops by her restaurant still hung over and unkempt from a bachelor party. He is attracted to waitress Jessie. Jack believes women only like him because of his money so he pretends to be a poor waiter at the hotel and tries to establish a relationship with Jessie and her son. A strong attachment develops between them, but Jessie finds out that Jack has been lying to her and she is very angry. Since this is a HEA book, you know what happens. The reader is very good.

A kind of Cinderella story

The ending really made this book for me. I admit that I struggled some with the heroine’s resistance and why she resisted. It’s just not something I can get behind, however she made up for it when her heart just couldn’t say no to Jack anymore for the reasons she was. I also really enjoyed Jack chasing Jessica, and I’m a sucker for a Cinderella type of story. I listened to the audiobook version and the narrators were great!

Lovely Story

It's nice to read a romance that has a plot besides the bedroom activities. This was a lovely story about the insecurities people harbor whatever walk of life they are from and caring for others. Delightful HEA ending.

Sweet Contemporary Romance

A sweet romance to make you smile. It's a bit chick lit with a focus on personal growth. It's easy to connect with very likeable characters. Narrator okay, though better with female voice than male.
