Publisher's Summary

Desire is in the blood... Jillian Conrad never believed in vampires. But she's just become a living, breathing weapon against them. Attacked by a desperate scientist, she is injected with a serum that was supposed to act as a deadly poison to vampires. And when the scientist is gunned down in front of her, his secrets die with him. Declan Reyes is only half-vampire, but he hates them with all his heart. He knows that the poison in Jillian's veins could finally destroy the undead kingdom. Also, the serum has had an unintended effect, making her blood irresistible to all vampires---including Declan, whose bloodthirsty traits are driven into a frenzy by her. Driven by duty to protect her and by instinct to crave her, Declan takes Jillian into his shadowy world of blood and battle. But he soon realizes his increasing need for her may be a different kind of hunger...

Good Listen

I was skeptical at first, when this was purchased, and now I'm glad I did, the narrator was excellent and the story line had several twist and turns that made the story. I will absolutely listen to book 2.

Don't believe everything you hear.

I picked this book up on a sale because of two reasons. First I like paranormal romances and second I have read two of Michelle Rowans books (Hot Spell and Inevitable) before. While her previous books were light on a plot they were plenty hot. I was hoping for more of that from this series, I was a bit disappointed. The story isn't bad but the romance with Declan left me cold and I felt that there was more smexiness with the evil vampire king than the hero. But the biggest irritant was the heroine, she was so stupid and gullible. Truthfully though it wasn't a bad book, the world building had potential, if only I could stand the characters. But since I couldn't, I won't be continue on with this series. This Narrator doesn't have much inflection in her voice, but the story does pull you in enough that you mostly ignore her.

I wish I'd read it.

If you could sum up Nightshade in three words, what would they be?

New - The idea isn't one I've seen or heard before.
Unpredictable - The story rarely went the way I expected. It was great.
Cliff hanger - Definitely left me ready for the second book.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Nightshade?

The deflowering of Declan was quite memorable.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

You could clearly hear the moods of the characters, but couldn't tell which character was speaking. She used several voices interchangeably for all the characters.

Deadly Nightshade

I really loved this book. I felt like it was a different concept for a vampire book. Maybe it was all the talk of serum and injections since I work in a lab and test that stuff lol. However, there were some really frustrating parts where we would almost get answers but the person doing the telling would stop talking and refuse to say any more. I really hate it when that happens. But there was so much action, especially at the end, that I gave it 4 stars. I listened to the audiobook. I didn’t much care for the narrator. While she has a great story telling voice and you can feel the characters’ emotions, she has a lot of trouble switching from one to another so you can’t really tell who’s talking. It’s like she catches herself after the first sentence then does it properly. I feel like after practicing, she will be superb at it. She really does a great male voice, which I think is a great quality in a female narrator.

great start to a series

this was a very interesting action packed listen with excellent narration. It contains explicit sexual situations.

Can't Recomment It

The first lines of the first chapter held some promise, but the rest was just painful. Apologies to the author, but it just doesn't work.

great read

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes, i read this series all in one sitting. The first book was so entertaining that i had to purchase the second book. I love Cynthia Holloway as a narrator, she makes this book easy to listen to. The story was good, hard to predict, and different from other vampire books.

One cliche after another.

Sorry, didn't like it and fast forwarded it to the end. Heroine was ok, tough guy ok at first then he turns whimpy, and honestly...why are all the heroes built like tanks and hung like horses? Just too predictable for me.
