Publisher's summary

Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed $25 in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead. And thanks to the mysterious stranger she met while chugging neon-colored cocktails, she wakes up with a decidedly unladylike thirst for blood.

Jane is now the latest recipient of a gift basket from the Newly Undead Welcoming Committee, and her life-after-lifestyle is taking some getting used to. Her recently deceased favorite aunt is now her ghostly roommate. She has to fake breathing and endure daytime hours to avoid coming out of the coffin to her family. She's forced to forgo her favorite down-home Southern cooking for bags of O negative. Her relationship with her sexy, mercurial vampire sire keeps running hot and cold. And if all that wasn't enough, it looks like someone in Half Moon Hollow is trying to frame her for a series of vampire murders. What's a nice undead girl to do?

Love in vein: bite into more of Jane Jameson's paranormal exploits.

An accident I enjoyed far more than most!

Not my typical genre, in several ways. But, desperate to fill the commute with something that would keep me awake, I finally grabbed something with an audio sample that didn't make me cringe. . .The author and narrator are a perfect match. I haven't laughed this much at a book (audio or otherwise) in years. Cleverly written and professionally voiced. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

Funny and sexy too!!

What made the experience of listening to Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs the most enjoyable?

I think this book was exceptional because of the authors humor and the terrific narration! Molly Harper has such a great way of saying exactly what I would want to say but wouldn't have the guts. Amanda Ronconi is such a great narrator. She makes the story come to life.

Refreshingly Funny

If you could sum up Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs in three words, what would they be?

Refreshing, Funny, Light

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jane Jameson. Yes, she's the main character but they aren't always my favorite. I just liked her personality and quirks. I could relate to them.

What about Amanda Ronconi’s performance did you like?

I love her voice. She's very good at giving each character a distinctive voice so you know who they are right off. She keeps you in the story and makes you feel she is Jane and you're chatting over lunch as she shares this fabulous story.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

I think the book's tagline is perfect. The Liberian with the really long shelf life.

Any additional comments?

While books about vampires being outed and ingratiating into human society have been done many times, Molly Harper puts her own spin on things in her Nice Girls series.

In Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs, book one in Jane Jameson's vampire adventures, Jane is just let go from her job as a librarian in her small Southern town. They don't even have the decency to give her a severance check, just a gift certificate to a local bar. Oh and a coupon for free potato wedges.

Drunk, she meets a charming stranger, Gabriel, who keeps her company on the worst day of her life. Little did she know that being fired would be a highlight.

Sober enough to drive home, Jane's car breaks down on a long stretch of country road. Getting out to walk, she didn't want to call anyone and talk about her humiliating day, she stumbles... just as the town's local drunk drives by and, mistaken her for a deer, decides to do a little hunting from his truck.

This is how Jane Jameson dies. Shot and lying in a ditch on the side of the road.

Lucky for her, Gabriel was a concerned vampire who wanted to make sure she got home alright. Three days later, she wakes up in his guest room, a newly risen vampire.

So begins Jane's adventures.

Molly has a hilarious voice. Her characters are real and easy to relate to. They are likable and have flaws. While, yes, you've seen similar stories before, she has a refreshing view on life as a vampire.

One thing I love about these books is that each chapter starts out with a passage from some 'self-help' book for vampires. Such as The Guide from the Newly Undead. I enjoy starting each new chapter just to see what new passage we're introduced to next.

Fabulous series and well worth the read. Four stars.

Humorous and Enjoyable Diversion

Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs is the first in the series 'Jane Jameson' which introduces the character of Jane, a librarian in her late twenties, a newly turned vampire who tends to have bad luck following her everywhere she goes, and her friends and family.

This is a very enjoyable book, told in the first person voice of Jane, with lots of humor dispersed throughout it. It is set in the present day, in the town of Half-Moon Hallow which is located somewhere in the southern U.S.

The narrator, Amanda Ronconi, does a good job with all the character and makes listening to this book a pleasure. She narrates all four books in this series which is only one of the things about this first book that makes the listener anxious to listen to the three books that follow this one in the series. The characters and the story are well written and engrossing but provide a light read which makes a nice diversion. I found it nice to read about the day to day grind of someone with problems very different from mine (and the worse luck on earth!)) who persists in tackling these challenges in an unreal world with the dogged determination of a survivor.

I would recommend this book to all who enjoy books about urban fantasy vampires werewolves, humor, and strong female leads with romantic entanglements, family trials, and Southern charm.

great fun!

A switch from many "vampire" type stories. Its fun and enjoyable following the main characters adjust. Molly Harper is fast becoming one of my favorite authors, and Amanda Ronconi is a great narrater. This is on my "must read" series.

What a mouth! FUNNY!

Jane / Amanda R, remind me of an 2 hp Evenrude outboard motor I had owned, way back when. They just putt, putt, putted along without a hic-up. Refreshing and funny quips that at times had me wondering about a different environment than my own.

This was not my usual interest in books, but as with others that I have stumbled across, deserves more attention. I will be getting the next in the series and then...who knows.

A cross between Sookie and Queen Betsey.

I love books like this! Every once in awhile you just need fluff you can read that you don't have to THINK about, and this book fit the bill. Being from California, I found the southern references hilarious, because we just don't have "rules" like that!

I think the narrator was fabulous with her accents (In my head, I can still hear "Haaaay Shuuuuug!") and the situations Jane finds herself in are just too funny.

All in all, this is a fabulous book! Easy reading, REALLY funny, and an amusing piece of fun literature.

Nice Read

I purchased this book because it was listed under "How Should I use My Credit" and because I love series. This book was a pretty good. It didn't "wow" me, but it was a nice read. I did enjoy the humor. Overall, a good book, but I don't think I will purchase another from this series. I will probably just find it at the library.

Great book of a loveable series

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I love light-hearted stories that don't take themselves too seriously. Especially when it comes to stories about vampires. One can find a bucket load of books out there about this type of storyline, but it's rather difficult to find books that are both funny and tend to keep an eye on the storyline.I, myself, love fantasy stories with a twist for the silly/funny side.Keeping this in mind... I'd recommend this audiobook to any friend, whom I may know shares may same literary taste, in a heart beat.

What did you like best about this story?

The story in itself is fun, but Ronconi's performance simply makes it superb. It's one of those times that narrator and book simply seem like a match made in heaven for me. I've lost count of how many times I've listened to this series over and over again.

Which character – as performed by Amanda Ronconi – was your favorite?

I adore them all. Each character has it's uniqueness and Ronconi makes sure to make them all equally shine.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The description of when the main character finds out she has been turned is priceless in my opinion. This is a type of scenario that would more likely happen in real life, sans some silliness, if one were in Jane's shoes.

Any additional comments?

Did I already mention I love this series? Because I do. ;)
