Publisher's Summary

Beth Venable has seen too much. Witness to a major mob hit, she's placed in protective custody until the trial. But after her third safe house is riddled with bullets, she goes offgrid to save herself. What the FBI can't do, her kinfolk will.

The beautiful but forbidding Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky welcome Beth back, with dirt roads and rustic shacks a world apart from L.A. But her homecoming—even her blissful reunion with strong, silent Ryal Walker—is made bittersweet by the fight she's brought to the clan's doorstep. Hidden in a remote cabin with the man she's always wanted, Beth begins to dream of a new life: her old one. But after so long, with such dangers stalking her…it seems impossible. But love can distill life down to its essence: an elixir of pure hope, nerve—and the will to survive.

Outstanding!!! From start to finish....loved it!!!

I always enjoy Sharon Sala - but she outdid herself with this one. What a charming group of characters and the action and romance balanced perfectly. Can't wait for the next one in this series!!

Just what I was looking for

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, because it held my interest and had a good plot

What was one of the most memorable moments of Next of Kin?

When family came to her defense against the bad guys in the big fight scene in the mountain

Which scene was your favorite?

One of them was when she is picked up by the truckers for the first time. I could feel her release at finally going home.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yep

Any additional comments?

Salad always delivers for me .

Overall pretty good.

I was a little weirded out by the couple being related. Distant cousins, I'll grant you, but still... kinda icky.

Next of Kin

I enjoyed the story very much. But the narrator nearly put me to sleep several times. Her delivery was so monotone. I liked the book but if I buy any more by this author, it will be in print form, not audio. Unless there is a different narrator.

Superb narration

The story is good, but the narration is better. Be warned, the hero and heroine are 4th cousins, and they first became lovers when she was only 17 to his 25. Now, ten years later, they are reunited. Ryal helps to protect Beth from the assassins the mob boss sends out to kill Beth, who is an eye witness to a murder he committed. The whole Walker and Venable clan protect Beth, defeating the assassins, who expected to deal with dumb redneck hicks in the Appalachians, on Rebel Ridge, Kentucky. I liked the scenes when the "hillbillies" surprised the baddies.

Sharon Sala does it again, a book to keep!

If you could sum up Next of Kin in three words, what would they be?

Terrific, romantic, thriller!!!! I can' t wait for her next book. If I got stuck on a desert island I would definitely bring all of hers along. Thank goodness for tablets!!!!!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ryan, he was such a caring man and I loved the way he rallied the kin folk in the mountains to help keep his woman safe. There were so many good characters it was hard to just pick one, I loved the truckers who got Beth away to safety even though they had never met her. I've listened to it 3 times already!

What does Kathe Mazur bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I loved the way she brought the southern accents and ages of the characters to life.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I had a wonderful feeling of satisfaction when I finished. I knew I would be listening again and again.

Any additional comments?

Be sure and try other Sharon Sala stories, my favorite is THE HEALER

Over all not up to Sala's previous books

The narrator was too melodramatic, story was very slow and predictable, and over priced. Would not get any of her short stories again.
