Publisher's Summary

A stand-alone novel that does not need to be heard in conjunction with any other book. From New York Times best-selling author Penelope Ward comes a friends-to-lovers story with sexy new characters.

After getting dumped, the last thing I needed was to move next door to someone who reminded me of my ex-boyfriend, Elec. Damien was a hotter version of my ex. The neighbor I dubbed "Angry Artist" also had two massive dogs that kept me up with their barking. He wanted nothing to do with me. Or so I thought until one night I heard laughter coming through an apparent hole in my bedroom wall.

Damien had been listening to all of my phone sessions with my therapist. The sexy artist next door now knew all of my deepest secrets and insecurities. We got to talking. He set me straight with tips to get over my breakup. He became a good friend, but Damien made it clear that he couldn't be anything more. Problem was, I was falling hard for him anyway. And as much as he pushed me away, I knew he felt the same, because his heartbeat didn't lie. I thought my heart had been broken by Elec, but it was alive and beating harder than ever for Damien. I just hoped he wouldn't shatter it for good.

Author's note: Neighbor Dearest is a full-length stand-alone novel. Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for listeners under the age of 18.

My Heart Only Beats For You......

My first Penelope Ward and it won't be my last. I really liked this taking chances and falling in love story, and how Ward uses real scary life concerns to builds the angst that easily has the listener (or reader) emotionally invested in the characters. There were only two things that dropped this story from a five to four stars.

First, I enjoyed the story especially the friendship that developed between Damien and Chelsea which was heartwarming, he really cared for Chelsea and you could feel it. When the finally moved past his insecurities and fears, and started a relationship, you could feel the love between them; however, some of the sex scenes came across as awkward. Maybe it was because these scenes were suppose to depict a "dirtier" side to the couple, but the love and tenderness they have for each other just didn't fit the couple who would almost have public sex or with their family in the next room.

The other, the story did drag in parts and I was ready to push fast forward but chose to adjust the speed to 1.5x instead. It may be me, but when stories are mainly told from one POV, the mental internal dialogue can become very repetitive.

I loved the dogs! Better know as the double "D's", they added that extra layer giving the story that unique almost believable aspect. The double D's helped Damien and Chelsea develop and strengthen the bond between them.

One of my favorite parts of the story was Damien's POV and the email he wrote to Chelsea's ex. It gave this touching love story a unique ending. Overall, a great story that will touch your heart. Well worth the time, and credit.

Samantha Cook did an amazing job with all the characters, and emotions.

Fun Story, Hot and Sweet!

I enjoyed this book. I love that the story had a lot of true love and hot sex. The relationship between them is sweet and the drama only a little high. The ending was perfect. The narration was good too!

BIG HAPPY SIGH.. MY EARPHONES NEVER LEFT MY EARS

He was a mysterious Artist who painted the outside walls of their complex with graffiti and he had two annoying hellhounds whose barking woke Chelsea each morning but the more heated run ins Chelsea had with Damien the more attracted she became. And yet Damien held back and ignored their sizzling chemistry, ignored her obvious attraction and ignored his own attraction to her too. Friendship was all Damien was prepared to offer Chelsea so she greedily took it but it was a double edged sword because she loved being close to him but Damien had made it clear that there could never be more and, although he refused to touch her, he had no problems touching other women. Eventually Chelsea knew she had to make changes.. and those changes would bring her the greatest pain.. but it would also bring her the greatest joy too.

This listen was heartfelt, heartbreaking and heartachingly beautiful too - there was a very slow climb through intense chemistry that could've powered their building, humorous banter and a big question mark as to why Damien wouldn't touch Chelsea. And, when all was explained, it was a tragic secret but these two were meant to be together and I had to trust that Penelope Ward would give me my heart's desire.. which she did. Chelsea was funny, loving and sweet and Damien was swoon worthy, honest, caring, loving and didn't play games. It was a enemies-friends-lovers romance that had so many emotions weaved between the lines and, when they finally got together, it was so much more than I'd hoped it would be. Told from Chelsea's POV by a very good narrator.

Worth a credit? This listen was captivating, entertaining, frustrating, romantic, heartbreaking, joyous, beautiful.. and YES very creditworthy. A MUST HAVE.

DAMIEN AND THE DOUBLE D'S....SWOOOOOOOOOON!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would...because it was good....very heart warming!

What other book might you compare Neighbor Dearest to and why?

It's an alpha male swoony romance...there are many...and this one is really good!

What about Samantha Cook’s performance did you like?

I thought Samantha was really good....she did fall flat at times...but she was still good, and I would listen to her again...

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Oh many...but I think when Damien comes out of surgery talking about a baby girl...I was so happy!

Any additional comments?

I LOVE PENELOPE WARD!!!! This was a truly swoon worthy romance about Chelsey and Damien...CHelsey just so happens to move next door to Damien after a bad break up...and Damien is just kind of a jerk...a moody broody artist with 2 big dogs that bark a lot....Chelsey tries to ignore him..but they are super attracted to each other...he keeps pushing her away..and it bothers her so much that she has to get away...she learns his secret though and they get their beautiful HEA!! LOVED IT!!! RECOMMEND IT!!!

Want To Complain To The Landlord Go Right Ahead

I'm just a good ole prick with super sonic hearing.

I really enjoyed this story. As mentioned in the publishers summary Chelsea and her boyfriend breakup. Chelsea moves into an apartment next to Damien who has two dobermans that bark a lot. When she complains to Damien he tells her there's nothing he can do about the dogs barking and if she wanted to complain to the landlord go right ahead. When Chelsea goes to the landlord's apartment to complain she finds out that not only is Damien the landlord but he owns the building. So she has to deal with the dogs.

Chelsea has therapy sessions one evening a week. She's trying to understand what went wrong in her relationship that caused the breakup. She talks with the therapist on speakerphone and just when the session ends she hears laughing and comments referencing the session. She learns there's a whole in the wall between her and Damiens bedroom and he has heard everything.

Damien sets up Chelsea on a dating site and gives her dating advice. They become good friends and start falling for each other. Damien sends mixed signals to Chelsea because he wants her but holds back because he has a secret. This is their story....

I enjoy Penelope Ward's books and have several in my library.

Samantha Cook is a talented performer. When I see her name I know the book will be good.

Worth credit/$ I bought this book on sale for $6.95 so heck yes it's worth the dollars. But I was planning on using a credit so yes it worth a credit too.

Yes my heart is happy!

This is a sort of follow up to Stepbrother dearest, but it can be read as a stand alone. This is the story about Chelsea, the step brother's ex from the first book. She is depressed from the break up and ends up having feelings for her next door neighbor. This is a great story with an excellent narrator. Well worth the credit.

Wow! Loved it! MUST LISTEN!!

If you could sum up Neighbor Dearest in three words, what would they be?

HOT, SEXY & FUNNY!!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Neighbor Dearest?

YES!!! The wedding!!!

What about Samantha Cook’s performance did you like?

Loved her!!! Too bad Zachary Webber could have been Damien voice. But, Samantha pulled it off!!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Certain parts were funny, I loved Damien's character. I should had listened to the Elec story first.

Any additional comments?

I'm hoping for the 3rd book, to be about Jay and Tye!!!

Lovable characters

I loved Stepbrother dearest so when I saw this I immediately wanted it. Chelsea is a very lovable character but I didn't feel much sympathy for her in Step Brother dearest because honestly I was really routing for Elec and Greta. It was nice to see her move on and find happiness, she deserved it. Damien was a great character as well. Their relationship seemed very believable. I also liked their playful banter and how they started out as friends.

Samantha Cook was a good narrator.

My Two Pennies

The narration from Samantha Cook had me hooked. I felt very emotion that was being expressed. 5 beautiful Unicorns for this story and Chelsea and Damien. Wow is a word I used often throughout this book. We're taken through some emotional times and I'm gasping through so much of them but I wouldn't change a single moment. I adore the connection shared between these two and of course double D. This story makes you think about everything in life and that you should never hold back what you want. You need to push fears aside and just go for it. Amazingly beautiful story. Loved it from the beginning to the very end.

It's Penelope Ward! Of course it rocked!

Fresh off the high from Stepbrother Dearest, I dove into Neighbor Dearest with a need for more. (Which is normal with any of Ms. Ward's books.)

I say she nailed it! It was up and down with plenty of sideways action. This rollercoaster would not let you rethink you decision to get on. Once you committed to opening the book, you have absolutely no choice but to keep going.

Tension, lust, and rejection all run high in this book. Chelsea is trying to recover from Elec's choice. But it looks like she will have her hands full.

I finished this book giggling. The humor and inappropriate awesomeness will have you very entertained. References to movies that I enjoyed as a kid left me smirking until the very end!

The narrator kept me engaged and entertained. I will definitely be looking for more.

very thorough story

Really well paced and encompassing story, like the heart defect touch, it nice to have drama in a story that doesn't focus on misunderstanding as so many do.
I really felt like the story concluded well

A wonderful heartwarming story

Chelsea and Damian's story takes you on a crazy, difficult, heartbreaking, heartwarming journey well worth the trip with the double D's ( two huge dogs) along for the ride. Loved the characters and loved the friends to lovers story. Penelope ward is a master at these storylines. 5*
