Phenomenal Story

I just love Amanda Quick. She does a great job bringing strong women characters to life in her historical novels. Well done!

For me this was like visiting an old friend!

For me the narrator was excellent, she move the story along. She is a delight to listen to!
In my opinion Amanda Quik's classic stories are her best work; although I find her current works nice I love her classic stories.

Favorite book of all time

What made the experience of listening to Mystique the most enjoyable?

The characters are so well developed and the narrator is excellent. I have listened to this book at least 30 times and i'm listening to it right now.

What did you like best about this story?

I just love the heroine and hero and the interaction between them. I love the way the hero respects his lady and stands up for her to all.

What about Barbara Rosenblat’s performance did you like?

Everything! I don't think I'd like the book if I read it. It's her characters that make it excellent.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Mostly the dry humor of the dark knight and the way he reacts to the antics of those around him. It isn't a comedy but there are enough humerous responses to keep me coming back.

Any additional comments?

I think of myself as a fairly intelligent person but this book, named Mistique with characters like Hugh the Relentless, the bringer of storms, places like Rivenhall Manor and the fact it is a romance of the highest water has me in it's thrall. So wonderful!!

Likeable

Barbara is a good narrator but the performance isn't as good as some others.

Gerst characters, great story!
I can't believe I've never read this before. Amanda Quick in her prime. I listened straight through and will be reading it again as soon as I submit. So impressed

My favorite...but sadly the only “Amanda Quick” book I like, so far

I liked this historical time period and the sweet and funny dialogue between the well developed characters ...and the narrator was divine.

The main character, Alice was sharp, unpredictable-never knew what she would come up with, I loved her strong nature and also I loved the brilliant chivalry of “Hugh the Relentless”.
I loved that this was not a dark and bloody story... not edgy, but witty dialogue , family mystery, kept my interest throughout.
Some of my favorite parts were when Hugh recites compliments to Alice written for him by someone else...out of his element but he tried his best for her...true love, haha.
I will listen to this again.

Enjoyable light romance.

Typical Amanda Quick book only its set in the medieval time vs her typical regency books. A mysterious dark hero and a head strong heroine makes for a fun romance. There is a slight mystery, but mostly this book is a romance. I enjoyed it as I tend to like all of Amanda Quick's older books. Very light on the sex, if that sort of thing bugs you. The narrator was pretty good in this book, even if I always think she sounds like an old smoker and not the young 23 year old she portrays. The story sucked me in and I didn't notice her after a while. I have heard her be really bad in the past so this was a vast improvement.

Shades of "The Princess Bride"!

I enjoyed this bit of entertaining fluff. Early Amanda Quick when still light and fun. Barbara Rosenblat's performance makes this completely enjoyable, sincere yet with a tiny touch of juicy camp.
