Publisher's Summary

When Jack Mercy died, he left behind a lot of enemies...and a ranch worth nearly $20 million. Now his three daughters - each born of a different marriage, and each unknown to the others - have gathered to hear the reading of the will.

Willa, the only one who knew her father, boldly expects that everything will be hers. Tess, who has reluctantly flown in from Hollywood, just hopes to fly back with as much cash as possible - and as soon as possible. And Lily Mercy would be grateful for anything; she has learned to expect disappointment, even cruelty, from men.

But the women are shocked to learn that before any of them can inherit, they must live together on the ranch for one year. They are sisters...and strangers. Now they face challenges: to put their bitterness aside and live like family, to protect each other from danger - and to unite against an enemy who threatens to destroy all. And finally, to weave together three very different worlds in this beautiful and isolated place called Montana.

Critic Reviews

"Roberts balances the tension and sometimes gruesome action with three romances, crackling dialogue and a snappy infusion of humor." (Publishers Weekly)
"All six of the major characters are wonderfully written, with just the right touch of genuineness, warmth, and distinctiveness to make readers emotionally invest in their stories." (Library Journal)

Now this was truly a good book - I almosted wanted it to be a trilogy but Nora did a great job putting them all together and not doing anyone any injustice.

The story line was great - the twist totally a shock - left me with a "huh" and then I just couldn't shut it off because I had to see how it ends!

Erika Leigh is a great narrator - thank you for making this book come to life!

Montana Sky EXCELLENT by Nora Roberts

Any additional comments?

Mean old Jack Mercy has owned a ranch in Montana forever, with his daughter Willa, working at her his side. He's never given her an ounce of affection, encouragement or anything a daughter craves from her father. However, he has taught her life on the ranch, what needs to be done, how to do it and do it well.

When he dies there's a huge surprise to Willa when the will is read. It turns out that he has two other daughters by two other women. The condition of their inheritance is that they all live and work on the ranch together for one year.

This is a big challenge for social light from the East Coast & a diva from the west, in Hollywood. They decide to give it a try each focused on her own reason. Willa, because ranch life is all she's ever known. Tess, the West Coast Hollywood – with her eye on the amount she can receive for selling off her portion at the end of the year. Lily, who is running from an abusive husband. Where better to hide then rural Montana?

The angst of the sisters trying to get along and adjusting to life on the ranch make for some fun shenanigans and, for me, a few giggles. But suddenly a body turns up, things get very serious very quickly because these women live alone and only one knows how to shoot a gun.

We are introduced to several men, ranch hands, businessman, an attorney, and potential suitors. There are a lot of characters to keep up with but each one is necessary to the plot.

As bodies continue to turn out, each in a more disturbing manner than the prior. They learn how to shoot guns, patrols are set up to police the area – everyone in the town pitching in.

Though I was able to make an educated guess as to who was causing all the problems, it wasn't until less than an hour left in the book and I had no clue as to who or as to why. Fortunately, Nora Roberts ties up each loose in a satisfying way.

I thought that this book was a historical set and a historical setting, but it was not. I suppose it COULD be considered a historical book as they don't mention email or text – but they did mention FAX machines!

Sometimes it is hit or miss for me with Nora Roberts, but this one was definitely a hit and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.

I recommend for those with tastes similar to mine. Constant action, romance and mystery.

The narration was exceptional especially when the number of characters are factored in. I mentioned that I had a hard time keeping up with the characters in a few places. However, the narrator performed in a way that after a few seconds I was caught up again.

Notes: Descriptions of violence, on humans and animals & some scenes (not graphic) that would be considered mature themes.

If my review has helped you make a decision whether to purchase this book or not, would you take a moment and select yes immediately below this text. Thank you.

A western saga at its best

This is a wonderful slice of life story that spans an important time in a young woman's life. Willa has depth and character that stands on its own. This is the story of her coming of age and attaining womanhood. Her love interest, Ben, is more than enough man to handle this western woman. A great listen.

This story is gripping. Heartwrenching, heartbreaking and good. I like every thing about the storyline, characters. Even if it scared the stuffing outta me. NR's bad guys are terrifying. The narration was really good. However, I had to "adjust" myself to enjoy some of the voices. The narrator did a great job of givng each character their own voice. Not all are easy to listen to but she did a great job. This story scared me silly. And I did not figure it out. I would like to listen again but I am not sure I can. Scary but really good story.

Okay maybe it's a corny story, but I liked it

I really enjoyed this book. So what if it was a little bit corny, I don't care, I liked it. In fact I liked it so much that once I started listening to it I kept driving the rest of the day and all night. I liked it.

Loved it!

Where does Montana Sky rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?

One of the best I've read

What did you like best about this story?

The story was great.

Have you listened to any of Erika Leigh???s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I hadn't heard this narrator before. She did a good job.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

I had seen the TV movie of this book and had decided not to buy the audio book. I finally changed my mind and am really glad I did. It was well worth the price.

Possibly my favorite from Nora Roberts!!

This book is fantastic!!! Great setting, Great characters that you really get to know and love or hate. There is a small amout of violence but nothing that completely turned my off from this great book. Well worth a credit! Enjoy!

more violent than expected

The story had some really great qualities that I almost missed due to the graphic violence described which is why I did not rate it high. I was not expecting the violence and almost did not continue the book, until I came up with the idea to fast forward through the violent scenes. I wish I was aware of the nature of the story before purchasing this book.

Great read

What made the experience of listening to Montana Sky the most enjoyable?

It was narrated very well. Sometimes you wondered if their wasn't more than one person speaking.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Montana Sky?

Thinking you knew who did it, then realising you didn't.

What about Erika Leigh’s performance did you like?

Loved it, that was most enjoyable. The different voices was amazing

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Willa thought her brother was going to die, and also when he thought he might loose Lilly.

Any additional comments?

Nora Roberts is amazing. The stories are very involved and I can say I have loved everyone of hers I have read. This one you feel for all three sisters and the men who fall for them. You knew one of them wouldn't go back, but you are still on the edge of your sit wondering. And putting that extra story in to get you even more hooked. you want to get to the end but then again you just don't !!!!

This story was a bit of a change for me I don't usually read cowboy stories. This was an excellent story well read and performed. I never guessed who the bad guy was and that makes a good book, there's nothing worse then getting half a dozen chapters in and knowing who the bad guy is. Great story I would highly recommend it.

Montana sky

The best sexy suspense thriller I have every read ! It has everything you could want, murder, steaming sex, a good laugh now and then and you constantly wonder throughout the book who did it, you are so excited to know how it ends and when you get to it you don't want it to stop, the Characters are so detailed and the narrator is one of the best I have listened too which makes the entire experience fantastic ! I have listened too it several times and I am just as in love with it after reading it the 10th time as I was the 1st, I'm not into sappy love stories and I only read it because it was recommended by a friend but I was mistaken this is definitely NOT sappy !
It should have 10 stars not just 5 and she should make a sequel
