Missed it That Much

For the first 12 hours of this book it was a solid five star listen. Evidently in the early years of her writing career Ms. Smith eschewed subtlety because she spent the last twenty percent of the book hammering home points that had already been more than sufficiently made. The doctor's dark brooding anger and cynicism became a tired cliche. As did the naivete, trust, and lack of critical judgement displayed the protagonist particularly in the last hour of the audio. So really sweet well written story of love found and lost and found again and lost again becomes a bad season of a eighties night-time soap, All that being said it's still worth the credit but it could have been so much better.

together at last

Where does Miracle rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

In the middle

What did you like best about this story?

A true romance- after many obstacles and heartaches the couple end up together

What aspect of Deanna Moffitt’s performance would you have changed?

In the book the female lead has a very distinctive voice. The performer was being true to the story but I found the character's voice annoying. The read would have been more enjoyable if she had toned it down some.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

it has some heartaches in it

Good Listen

Although the primary protagonist has a very unusual voice, it is a part of her that becomes important in the story arc. I understand other readers have had a hard time getting beyond Amy Miracle's "screeching voice", however in order for the narrator to make we listeners understand all the issues that come with having an unusual voice, the narrator has to read Amy's part with her high pitched voice. And it does get better as the story moves along and Amy gets older.

Deanna Moffitt does an excellent job of narrating both Amy and Sebastian, both have unique accents and Moffitt imitates french very well. Of course I don't speak French so I may be far off when it comes to how it really sounds.

The plot is not particularly fresh-young girl meets older employer, employer becomes attracted to the young girl and agrees to pay for her college education, then realizes the relationship isn't appropriate and goes to Africa to work with Doctors without Borders for 2 years. She goes to college and changes her major half way thru to Radio/TV broadcasting where her future really picks up.

10 years go by and they meet again, She is becoming a star and he is having difficulty with his profession. And on and on. It's well read however and a totally enjoyable listen.

I like Deborah Smiths work and this was another of her novels that are charmers.

The 'screeching voice" does not continue through out the whole book-Moffitt tones it downs she reads. It took me about 90 minutes, when Amy was a silly young girl, that it was the most annoying...after that, I really liked the book.

Totally a romance-chick lit title.

Enjoyable and Well Narrated.

Any additional comments?

A little too long, the author could have edited some of the material out, it reminded me of a Danielle Steele saga. Narrator was very good and all in all it was a worthwhile listen.

Miracle by Deborah Smith

I loved this book as a young adult. The only thing I didn't like about this book was the ending it felt like it wasn't completed. I'm close to senior citizens age and I still like this book but now on audio books because of poor eyesight LOL

Entertaining

I enjoyed this book so much. Once I got over the shrill voice of the leading character, I found myself able to settle into it. I just wish the leading voice was softer. This held my interest throughout.

screeching voice

What could Deborah Smith have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Better narration. Could not get into the story because the screeching voice of the lead character was too overwhelming. I could not get beyond first hour

How could the performance have been better?

Less screeching

Any additional comments?

Good details in the write up. It sold me even though I had never heard of this author

Couldn't even finish it!

I loved Crossroads Cafe - maybe because I read it and didn't listen to it. Miracle couldn't even compare - it was horrible. Not only did I think it went on and on, but I didn't have the patience to listen to it any more to see what happened by the end of the book. The main characters voices were awful. The girl seemed so naive - I couldn't help but hate it...and I tried my best to positive. This book was not a win.
