Man I love these books! Visiting the Elder Race world is so much fun, I adore the complex world Thea Harrison has created and really wish they came out more often!
In this book we have the Night Kind King Julian's story. We have only ever heard of the ruthless mean streaked Julian who doesn't care for anyone or anything...but how did he get that way? He is a vampire who has walked the earth for nearly 2000 years and he's tired of existing, the one brief glimpse of happiness he had was when he dated the Light Fae Princess Mellie for 3 months 20 years ago, but even that was ruined, he is a man who doesn't have anything to loose, or so he thought.
When the call comes from Mellie's mother that she needs Julian in LA right now for a crisis she won't discuss over the phone Julian's blood runs cold...not Mellie....not Mellie....but when his worse fears are confirmed and the kidnappers ask for him in exchange he has no choice but to try to save the only woman he has ever cared about.
*shiver*...this book had a really decent plot, nothing stale about it, Mrs. Harrison has opened up a new can of worms with this book. My only complaint would be that things wrapped up a bit too neatly for my tastes but it was still a great book full of humor and interesting characters. We didn't get to see much of the Weir in this book, but hopefully book 9 will send us back to those lovable characters.
Narration wonderful, as usual!

If you could sum up Midnight's Kiss in three words, what would they be?
What was one of the most memorable moments of Midnight's Kiss?
When Milisande engaged the help of the biker group and used one of the members phone to call her Mom.
Which character – as performed by Sophie Eastlake – was your favorite?
The Nightkind King
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It's never smart to piss off a vampire, but this time they pissed off the King of the Night Kind and then kidnapped his former Lover (whom he still loves). Yes this is Julian's story and not what I was expecting in his story. In all the other books Julian is shown to be cold and hard, but in this book, we see another side of Julian that I did not think he was capable of. When Millie is kidnapped, Julian surrenders himself to her kidnapper. Now they have to work together to get free and along the way they find that they still love each other.
In this book we find out what caused Julian and Millie's break-up, what caused the division between Julian and his Sire, and that there is more to Millie then just a "spoiled brat." In another word, this is a great addition to the series. But as in all the other books, there are more question to be answered. So I now have to wait for the next book and wonder who's story will be next.

I love this series and this book is so much better than the previous book. I actually liked the characters in this book, unlike the last book. Usually I'm not a fan of lovers gone awry and then get back together, but Thea managed this one without me ending up hating the characters. This is a nice blend of romance and action that the story just flew by, which usually is a sign of a good book. The only thing that bugged me was that Julian was supposedly able to tell if someone is lying, but never believed Mellie when she told him she didn't cheat on him and duh, I guess right away how it was done. But I guess there needs to be drama/angst from somewhere to make a book flow. I'm so glad Thea Harrison is back on track with this series, I'm hoping that Graden's book is next. Narrator is good, same one as the rest of the series and I enjoy her immensely.

After the disappointment of the last book, I felt that Midnight's Kiss returned to form for Thea's Elder Races series. This new addition brought back many well-loved characters from previous entries, which is always great.
Julian and Melly's relationship was a great second chance at love story, the conflict between them and resolution of said conflict was believable and not overdone. There was a wonderful balance between action, sex and story, neither aspect overpowering the other.
Sophie Eastlake is always wonderful, and that held true here. Her male voices are great, not too overdone, all the characters were very easy to differentiate between.
Overall, a great story that was well performed, and I'm already looking forward to the next installation!

Julian and Melly's story was riveting all the way - dark and miserable the Nightkind Vampire King and the light and loveable Fae Princess have something in common with each other.... and that is a broken and betrayed heart. But when Melly's life is threatened Julian instantly drops everything to give himself up for her safety..... however, evil Vampiress Justine has other wicked and torturous plans in mind for both of them. Dark and gloomy dungeons, feral vampires and the constant threat of what may lay ahead for them both couldn't stop the memories flooding in of the heartache and the sadness over their decades past affair and the lost true love that had turned so bitter and sour so quickly.
Now they have to work together to get free and continue to work together to overcome the lies, threats, enemies within and to make Justine nothing but a pile of dust because she seemed to always be one step ahead with disastrous results. The attraction and deep love that Julian and Melly had for each other was still there and the conflicts and danger made them both realise that they couldn't waste any more time on regrets as to could've, would've and should've which thankfully led to romantic, passionate, humorous and sexy scenes as these two lovers reminisced and rekindled the embers that never truly went out.
Worth a credit? I love the characters in all the Elder Races and also Thea Harrison's very imaginative and worldbuilding skills that give those characters foes to fight, mates to claim, Councils, communities and laws. This exciting, mainly dual POV listen, also had the benefit of a very good narrator who brought all the characters, the action, the passion and the fight scenes to vivid and colorful life. So YEAH another credit used but look what I got for it..... 9.5 hrs of a PNR listen that excited, enticed and entranced me.

But this was not my favorite book. It lacked real danger and excitement. I was hoping to learn more about the the characters but their stories were a bit shallow.
loved this story. It kept me not wanting to put it down. i already know the next ones are great.
This might be my favorite so far! Each addition to the series digs deeper into the Elder Race world. The characters are always unique, each with thier own powers, personalities and backstories. The story is packed with action, intrigue and romance, and the narration suits the Elder Race world.
