Publisher's summary

Some promises can't be kept.

Shannon Winters' picture perfect marriage is in shambles after a car accident left her husband an amnesiac. The commitment to vows he doesn't remember making keeps her fighting while covering up the parade of other women and a spectacle of bad behavior. Her career as owner and manager at a successful boutique hotel alongside the Hudson River is a refuge, but, at 37 years old, what she craves is the bond to be repaired.

Even 20 years after high school, Triston Keyes continues to be haunted by memories of the girl he'd lost, the only woman he's ever loved. When he meets Shannon during a vacation, Triston finally has the chance to apologize. It's the only hope he has if he ever wants to fall in love with anyone else.

Sparks rekindle between them, and Shannon struggles to find a reason to stay true to a broken marriage, which is quickly crumbling as she gravitates towards the forgotten love...until her husband pleas for her to come back.

But when the depth of betrayal is revealed, Shannon must choose her vows - and her beloved hotel - or remain true to her heart, while Triston must fight to keep the past from catching up to his future.

Both know nothing is a matter of luck, but a matter of choice....

Fun listen, interesting plot twist

--I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is an interesting story with quite the plot twist. I love these kinds of books, you are expecting a straight forward ending and find it completely the opposite! Shannon Winters is running her exclusive hotel while taking care of her husband, who was in a car accident 2 years earlier and suffers from amnesia. She deals with all kinds of incidents that he causes, totally opposite of what his personality was prior to the accident and is extremely hurtful and disruptive. In walks Shannon's high school sweetheart, Triston. He has never stopped loving her and plans on fighting for her. With a strong sense of loyalty and wanting to live to her vows, it takes a lot of persuasion and love from Triston to finally get Shannon to begin to feel again. And this is where the story takes a twist! Love the way things turn. The supporting cast of Shannon's best friend and work staff is a wonderful support system(though didn't think her best friend was a good person, her character was essential). Recommend this book, it was very entertaining.

Piper Brown as always gives an amazing portrayal. Her acting ability brings you directly into the book and makes you feel like you are there with Shannon, feeling every emotion that Triston and Greg bring to the story.

Marriage Vows

What about Piper Brown’s performance did you like?

I was so impressed with all the voices that Piper did. Not only were the females voices excellent, but her male voices were very believable. Her expressions for each character were great when it came to anxiety, anger, or frustration. It was well done.

Any additional comments?

This is a well-written PG-rated romance, which happens to be the only kind I read. At the beginning I was frustrated with Shannon because she was excusing her husband's infidelity and his immoral actions because he has amnesia, simply because she felt he did not know what he was doing. As time went on, I finally understood that "marriage vows" were very important to Shannon and that was why she stayed with him. The author did a good job by gradually opening up what kind of person her husband really was and gradually revealing secrets about him. Although, I do have to say that I was frustrated that Shannon stayed with him for two years, thinking he was not at fault. I wonder how many women would do that!

Great narrating and an interesting twist

At first, I wasn't sure how to take this story. I very much disliked her husband, hurt or not, and wasn't sure she should have to put up with so much.
SO having said that... the author did what they should in invoking emotions from the readers. I had very strong ones throughout the entire book. I did like Tristan though. This isn't a run-of-the-mill romance and for the subject matter, it is well written.
The narrator did a good job bringing the characters to life. she never got silly or cartoonish with the guy voices and kept you pulled into the story

Hated it.

I made it half-way through but became so disgusted, could not finish. Old boyfriend seemed be a lesser version of the soon-to-be x-husband, both objectionable as romantic partners. Boyfriend's continual "smirking" and pushiness were a real turn off, and I thought the heroine was incredibly stupid to find his behavior romantic.

An interesting read!

What made the experience of listening to Matter of Choice the most enjoyable?

Narrator! It really came to life with her telling it.

What does Piper Brown bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Characterization. It's an interesting read, but without her breathing life into the characters, I might not have finished it.

A warm contemporary romance

This is a beautiful story of how life's journey can change and take you by surprise. Shannon is a devoted wife whose life got shook up when her husband gets in an accident and suffers from amnesia. She is faced with a crossroads as things progress & life changing events take place. I felt deeply connected and invested in Shannon's life, feeling her pain and her joy. I really enjoyed immersing myself in her journey and found myself experiencing a range of emotions from shock to happiness and everything in between.

I would most defiantly spend a credit on this audiobook. I can't wait to listen to more books by this author and narrator. It isn't very often you can listen to a book and have it be played in your head like a movie so easily!!

Great Story and Great Narration

Any additional comments?

Well written story that keeps you listening. The narrator carried the story and characters through nicely and was a pleasure to listen to. I don’t usually listen to books in this category, but will be looking for more from this author in the future.
