Publisher's summary

Mark Houston has done the unthinkable.

The US Marine has fallen in love with his buddy's fiancée, Libby Clifton. When Jon is killed in action, Mark elects to accompany the body home. After he completes his sorrowful duty, he walks away. She might be the only woman he'll ever love, but she isn't his to comfort. She never will be.

The sad truth is Jon never loved her.

Running from grief, Libby trades country life for big city Chicago, but thoughts of Mark and the tenderness of their last encounter linger. When an overseas drug cartel strikes deep in the heart of America, Mark drops into her life again. The cartel wants the kilos of opium hidden six-feet under with her dead fiancée. But opium isn't the only thing that's buried.

Mark: In the Company of Snipers, Book 2

As always, the author grabs all of my emotions. Mark is the best friend of John who was engaged to the woman Mark loves. He has made no moves on her and becomes her support system when John is Killed in Action. After the funeral, he leaves to start his new life and she continues her new life in a new city. It is sad, yet when the truth comes out and everyone finally admits it the story changes.

Mark is the new guy on the team and having the usual adjustments. There were some touching scenes with a family in Afganistan, a wonderful view of the people, as well as some of the daily terror the people live with. Mark returned when Libby and her family were in danger from a drug cartel. They begin to admit their own feelings.

The danger is so much more than any of them expected. Loved ones were at risk. As her bodyguard, protection assignment they renew their relationship and their feelings grow. How they are connected to the danger doesn't come out for some time. Is it too late for Libby?

I love the team who are a family. It is that place to come for these warriors who are often wounded in mind and need a place to call home. Mark has a hard time accepting it because of his history.

There will be some surprises. Some mysteries solved. And a view of what love can be. I very strong recommendation for this and the entire series.

Loved It!

This story tugged at my heartstrings right from the beginning and I loved it! I fell in love with Mark right away and my heart went out to both he and Libby. Mark had to inform Libby that her fiancé, and his best friend, was killed in the line up of duty. As if that wasn't difficult enough, he has been secretly in love with her and knows she can never be his. A drug cartel changes life for both of them when they go after Libby & her family and Mark is assigned to keep her safe. I really enjoyed this story, even a bit more than the first one in the series. There are many characters in this series that I am anxiously looking forward to reading about. Can hardly wait for the next book coming to audible!
Troy Duran once again does an amazing job narrating and bringing the story to life!

Mark

I think it's not good to binge read several stories from the same author all in a row. Still, the story was good with minimum sex(imo). I must admit to being curious about Harley's story, but I think I'll wait awhile to read/listen to it.

I love this series!

I just listened to Mark again to refresh my memory so I can catch up on my review writing. This was a great story to revisit and recall everything I love about the Team and about Mark and Libby's relationship. The author draws her characters and writes them with such beautiful strokes, from the tiniest details and descriptions to the larger picture. It is a joy to get lost in her stories. Each one is unique and fits her central characters perfectly.

Mark and Libby, like all the Team couples, face many emotional challenges, including Libby's heart-stopping episode of nearly being buried alive, and Irish writes it all with power and subtlety. Likewise, Troy Duran interprets her words and scenes beautifully with his voice. As I often say, he hits the right notes every time. He is truly the perfect voice for this series.

Loved this book! 💕❤️💕❤️

I really loved this book. It was a very sweet love story about a girl who’s life is completely turned up side down by the death of her fiancé! Enter Mark, her fiancés best friend. I loved the slow build up of their love and the way it resolved itself. Excellent narration (as always) by the Uber talented Troy Duran.

Mark & Libby!

Keep this series coming! I love the style of Irish Winters, a good romantic suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat and warm your heart. This second book of the series lets us get to know Mark. He comes to tell his best friend's fiance, Libby that he was killed in action. Having loved her from afar, he is worried about her but knows he has to let her grieve. When danger then lurks, Mark and his team will do their best to get to the bottom of it and keep Libby safe. Winters has a great way of bringing these characters into your life. She is creating a community as we get to see Kelsey, Alex and Harley again as well as the pups, and get that sense of family. She also instills a romance that is hard to ignore. Mark and Libby have strong feelings, but they need to get over the obstacles in their way to find their happiness, and then keep it! With a drug cartel on their tails, it's next to impossible. She is fast becoming a favorite of mine.

Tory Duran is the narrator for this story, and he is amazing. I find that he is able to tune into the characters and use that intuition to build his voice. He created Mark as strong and brave, yet adds those inflections that give him a soft edge. I love when narrators can find that balance and create the personality that fits. Consistent with his first book of voices too, we know exactly when Alex, Kelsey and Harley are speaking! Love this and can't wait for the next one!
