Publisher's Summary

New York Times best-selling author Johanna Lindsey delivers a sparkling, passionate tale of an earl's daughter who must convince a mysterious viscount to marry her and end his vendetta against her brother.

One duel could be considered a matter of honor, but three duels are attempted murder!

With enlightened society outraged at such reckless behavior among young noblemen, the prince regent orders Robert Whitworth, the earl of Tamdon's heir, and Lord Dominic Wolfe to end their dispute by allying their families through marriage. Whichever party refuses to comply will forfeit his lands and title.

Whitworth relishes the idea of sending his younger sister, Brooke, to his enemy's remote estate. He knows the Wolf will reject her as a bride, thereby losing his wealth and status. The Wolf, however, is determined to scare away the Whitworth chit. With dueling no longer an available means of destroying the man he abhors, he will be satisfied to see him lose his lands and title. But he doesn't expect his enemy's sister to be so resourceful or resilient.

Brooke Whitworth has been dreaming of her first Season in London, because she intends to win a husband who will take her far away from her unloving family. Instead she is being sent to the Yorkshire moors to wed a mysterious nobleman whose family is cursed and who has thrice tried to kill her brother. But there's no room in her heart for fear; this man is her means of escape. She will make him love her!

This book DID make me love it!

I actually finished this book within 24 hours. The last 60 minutes of the book Johanna Lindsey tried to make everything nice a tighty by improving the image of those she should not have in just a few words but I still devoured the book nevertheless. A Beauty And The Beas tail minus an ugly hero. A feel good story.

Just Ok

The storyline was good, but I think the Narrated made it just ok for me. The voice was like nails on chalkboard. This was my first listen by this Johanna Lindsey. I would give her another chance but not by this narrator.

Make me Believe You

Misunderstandings all around in this Historical Romance.Growing up in an unloving home,Brooke is happy to find out that she might have her escape from her family, thanks to her Rakehell of a brother, whose dueling has gotten the attention of the Prince.Being made to marry his mortal enemy in order to stop the dueling and bring peace to the families.Lady Brooke must travel and convince Lord Dominic to love her.Discovering the mystery behind the duels,Lady Brrooke takes it apon herself to show her fiancé that she is determined to show him that she is nothing like her brother and believes they could make a good marriage out of their situation.Everything turns out not to be once it was always believed to be.People grow up,mature, learn life lessons from their mistakes. In the end,the mysterious death of Lord Dominics sister, takes a very interesting turn.No one is who you think they are in this story, you'll be surprised in the end how it unfolds.Good story by Johanna Lindsey, the narrator was good with the exception of doing the mens voices, unfortunately she made them all sound to be Whining prigs.

Loved it!

I have been reading JL's books since I was 14, and over the years I grew a little tired of them. I'm 32 now, and finally found a book I can enjoy again! Most of her books {more like 95% of her books} is a huge battle against each other. So much arguing and bickering, but not this one! Finally a book where they can admit their desire for each other, with out waiting till the very end.

I did feel that it was a little rushed, and at once point I was completely confused at what had happened. One minute they're laughing and then next, she's screaming at him....no clue why when it seemed to me like he wasn't serious. Anyways, overall a great read.

while it's nothing new it's still a good story.

I love Mrs. Lindsey's books. they are always a good read. she really takes me back into the Victorian era and I like that escape into a different time. There aren't a lot of twists or surprising turns in this story and its pretty much a typical Victorian romance, but she makes you care about the characters and its always well written.

15 minutes of this narrator was enough.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Listened for 15 minutes. Returning. Would still consider reading the book.

If you’ve listened to books by Johanna Lindsey before, how does this one compare?

Have enjoyed many, many Lindsey audio books. Disappointed with the reader from the start. Not willing to invest the time to see if she improves.

What didn’t you like about Beverley A. Crick’s performance?

The voices just weren't that good, or that distinguishable one from the other.

Any additional comments?

No idea how good the story is, but audible requires the ratings in order to comment.

Another great JL story

The story was good, I liked the characters and the way they interacted. I liked the way they were able to work on their relationship and that the entire thing was about them building a relationship, not about how it's a "push and pull tear apart" kind of thing just to get there. I liked the extras in the story, like the dogs and horses. I'm pretty good at being able to tell what's going to happen in a book, but there was a bit of a surprise that took me quite some time to see.
I do have to say that the narrator was not my favorite. She wasn't horrible, and definitely didn't make it an unpalatable story, however she was a little drab and didn't really have very many voices between characters. I just think it's how her voice is, not really her lack of ability. Like I said, not horrid, not great. Just mundane. I'd not seek her out, but if she was the narrator for another book I wanted to read, I wouldn't turn it away.
