Nothing Magical Here

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I loved AJ’s BIKER DRAGON Set but I think she missed the ball on this one... So much could have been simplified, or just simply left out, to enhance the important elements of this fast 2 hour listen. Instead there are three worlds that collide. And then there’s sex. It’s a fun idea but IMHO, not executed well.

I’ve listened to Audry Lusk several times now and I’m just not getting used to or growing fond of her inflections. She ends on a down note often trying too hard to sound sultry and ending up sounding petulant and whiny. I really wish I could say different.

Keeping Hands in my Pockets.

Decent book

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was a short, but somewhat interesting story. It is definitely a romance story but it was nicely balanced with paranormal aspects of the story. The narration was decent. Not the best I'd ever heard, but decent.

A Fun Little Love Story

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

I'm a big fan of magic and romance; however, I've never listened to/read a story this short before, so I figured I'd give it a try. This short story definitely met expectations--it was quick, fun, and easy to listen to. The concept of people getting trapped in books was interesting, and the way the mystery was resolved ended up being a very cool twist. Of course, the story was limited by it's length, and the relationship seemed to move very quickly with little regard for development. The plot was also very simplistic, and I felt the world-building really left me wanting more. I would be very interested in listening to the second, as the preview made it seem like it would get more into the world-building and mystery now that the romance has been developed.

The narration was probably the weakest point. Her inflections were odd--almost like everything was a question, and even the most basic narrative lines seemed to have an odd, "sultry" tone to them. The range of voices was also very weak.

Overall, though, this was a fun little read, and I would definitely check out the next one in the series if I found it for the right price!

Magic and Love in the Library

I enjoyed this audiobook, and I am eager to hear where the story goes from here. Although this audiobook can stand alone, the story is not completely resolved, and there is a bigger mystery to solve than those involving Eliza's mother and Drew. I presume that mystery will be continued in future books. Although this audiobook is relatively short, the author weaves in two stories - Eliza's search for her mother and a love story between Eliza and Drew. Both are satisfactorily concluded within this first book.

The narration was okay, but the narrator's voice just didn't set the mood for me, especially the intimate scene between Eliza and Drew. There is nothing wrong with the pace or delivery. I didn't feel the emotional connection, but that's just me.

Good, concise story

I wanted to listen to the audio of this novella because I am a librarian, and I like the idea of falling in love in a library amuses me. Because of the nature of novellas, the tight focus of the story is about Eliza trying to find her mother after she disappeared in a magical accident. Eliza has worked for years off page to build her skills as a witch, and it finally pays off when she encounters a man trapped in a book who can help her. The novella comes to an expected satisfying end with the possibility of more stories told in this world.

There isn’t necessarily a point where the book drags, but I personally didn’t enjoy the sex scene. Yes, there is one even in a short novella. Maybe it’s just me as a reader, but the tonal change was jarring. It might not be a big deal to anyone else. I think part of my problem with it was that I misunderstood Eliza’s age and perceived her as being out of character. The mistake was mine, not the author’s.

In every audiobook, there are two things to think about: the story itself and the performance of the narrator. I did not life this narrator’s voice. There is nothing wrong with the performance because she’s technically quite good. I just don't like the sound of her voice. I decided to listen anyway because sometimes my opinion on a voice can change the more I spend time with it. Unfortunately for me as a listener, that never happened.

Bottom line: Fast, tightly plotted novella for those who enjoy books, magic, and the love of a daughter to her mother. There’s a bigger mystery in the novella that will hook you and make you want to read more in the series, but the story itself is complete.

Do listen to the sample audio to help decide if this is the audiobook for you. The sample is a very good representation of what you’ll get in this book.

Great love story

This is a short PNR story . It has vanishing holes. Withes , fai , Paranormal beard.
Loved how it starts out with a mother disappearing before her daughter Eyes.
Years later the daughter is at a library wanting to go through a spell book. The founder of the library is stuck in a book (it’s like a prison) once someone opens the book he jumps out.
Will he be pulled back into his prison
This audio has it all

The narrator Audrey hit all the voices right on

When a book boyfriend is stuck in a book...

We often hear about book boyfriends. You know, that delicious male characters that sets the reader's heart a flutter. Well this short story is actually about a boyfriend stuck in a book. To be fair, he doesn't start off as a boyfriend, but Drew and Eliza certainly set the pages on fire with their chemistry before Eliza manages to free him from his book abode.

This story is certainly different from the usual paranormal romances featuring witches. It also has a lead to the next book in the series without compromising this story, which is stand alone. If you enjoy quick and easy paranormal romances, this book fits the bill. It is a little fun, a little sexy and a little mysterious all rolled into one spell!
