Mating instincts are hell…
Casey hasn’t had an easy life. On her eighteenth birthday, she learns why she's always felt so different. She’s a shifter. Hiding behind a diner for shelter now that she’s been kicked out of the last in a long line of foster homes, she’s shocked when a man approaches her offering help.
Mack is still searching for the cub his father took in even years after her kidnapping. He had no idea he’d find his mate, and the girl he’s been searching for, Casey, when he offers to help a woman outside of a local favorite diner.
I received this audiobook free for an honest review. The author and narrator did a great job in bringing this paranormal story to life. It was hard to put down once started. To find out the powers Casey possessed was exciting. I love seeing strong women in a world full of obstacles. Seeing the compassion in Mack was heartwarming. Such a big, sexy person/animal was a turn on. The narrator did a great job with the characters, both male and female. The side stories were great as well. Looking forward to Book 2.

Sometimes I just find myself at loss for words on how to describe a story. Bottom line this is an entertaining, engaging and enjoyable story. It pulled me in from the start and held my attention from start to finish. Being a shorter story it's fast paced with plenty of action, intrigue, suspense and mystery. As well as a bit of steamy romance.
I enjoy all different kinds of paranormal stories and while there is nothing new or unusual about the story overall it does have a few little twists that give it a bit of uniqueness and keep it interesting. I wasn't quite sure how this going to go in the beginning with them being siblings but it all works out. Things are not what we are first lead to believe. Casey's whole world is about to be turned upside down when she discovers her true identity. Not just what but who she is.
Great cast of well rounded, intriguing and likable characters. With so many great characters it will be interesting to see where the series goes from here.
Brian Callanan does a good job with the narration. He has a nice voice that is easy to listen to for long periods of time. Clearly spoken with a nice even pace. Of coarse his male character voices are great. His female voices vary. Some are better than others. It didn't take away from my overall enjoyment of the story. It was always easy to tell which character was speaking. He was able to bring the story and characters to life. He has Overall very enjoyable.

Each author decides her own rules and parameters for the world she's creating but Ms. Lynn has kept to certain shifter conventions such as clothing comes off and shifting is physically painful. Where she differs from many is in the combined packs/prides concept which adds interest to an already engaging story of a foster child aging out of the system and trying to survive the mean streets.
Narrator Brian Callanan [AUDIO] did a terrific job with voices, especially the hero, Mack, and, with the author, kept the action rolling.

Loved this story! I really enjoyed this one, I love shifters and this story doesn't disappoint. Great characters with plenty of romance and action. I loved getting to know Casey and Mack and look foreword to other books in this series. The narrator was really good too! A different view on a genre I love. Different shifters within the family? I like it. The story kept my attention with the various characters that meshed quite well, the suspense, and the twists... yes the twists ... I needed to find out more. The chemistry between Casey and Mack is palpable, their journey to HEA is not easy, but the truth gets revealed and it all works out in the end. This short book makes a good start to the series.
Mr. Callanan's voice is becoming one of my faves and it is the reason I picked this book. Love his various voices, male and female, young or old, the colourful nuances, the emotions behind the words. I hope he will narrate the next book, Rook, too.

This story is quite a different take on the genre and quite refreshing and unique! I loved it. I finished the book in one sitting and will definitely be looking for the next in the series!
Brian Callanan's performance is excellent! He did a great job giving each character a unique voice. I have found another narrator to add to my favorites list!!

Well, that's different, I've never read a book where different shifter breads lived in the same pack/pard, it made for an interesting story line.
The story is well written and it suited to people who love shifter stories and have read many and new comers to shifter stories. The explanation on how it all works is woven into the story.
I really liked the characters, I thought they were well developed and realistically presented.
The story line was new and interesting, had enough twists to keep it interesting but not so many that I was left wondering how to keep track of it all.
I liked the narration, the character voices for the male characters worked really well, but the female voices were less convincing. The overall delivery was good, it conveyed emotion and made the action parts of the story come to life.
I received this book free from the narrator/publisher/author in exchange for an honest review.

Would you try another book from Miranda Lynn and/or Brian Callanan?
I would defentily listen to another book that is narrated by Brian Callanan. I thought he was an excellent story teller. He got the pitch of the situation spot on. So you felt the fear, suspense, frustration, lust, etc. He sent a shiver of fear down my spin when he said the word prey. That is how good he is!
Any additional comments?
Nothing new in this shifter book. It is predictable but it was still an OK read. At first (like other reviewers) I thought that there might be incest involved, but there wasn't. This was resolved earlier on in the book.
There is sex scenes and violence.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This was a good listen and the narration was excellent. It started out a little strange with a shifter having feelings for his half sister. That straightened itself out and there was no incest issue like I feared was going to happen. This was the standard shifter finds mate type of book with some explicit sex scenes and pack territory fights. It was a little light on substance but was an ok start to a series.

Casey is a repressed shifter and a loner. Soon she won’t be able to deny her shifter side and Mack is determined to find her before that happens.
The relationship between Casey and Mack is interesting. There was plenty of sexual tension build up but the payoff was somewhat lackluster in my opinion. Still, it’s a solid paranormal romance and an enjoyable listen. Note: Some may feel that this story skates the line ethically because Casey is Mack’s adopted sister. Although they had been separated a long time and mostly during her formative years. Even so, I’m sure some will be offended.
The Audiobook Mack slides in at just under 4 ½ hours and is narrated by Brian Callanan. He did well in this fully voiced production. The sound quality could have been better, there was white noise in the background and the narrator's voice was breathy. But, I did enjoy his delivery, the emotion and range of his reading.
Overall, I liked Miranda Lynn’s writing and I'm curious to see what else she’s written.
