Publisher's summary

The hottest collection of studs in romance” (New York Times best-selling author Angela Knight) returns as J. R. Ward brings together two of the most beloved people in the Black Dagger Brotherhood world - at last...

Qhuinn, son of no one, is used to being on his own. Disavowed from his bloodline, shunned by the aristocracy, he has found an identity as a brutal fighter in the war against the Lessening Society. But his life is not complete. Even as the prospect of having a family of his own seems within reach, he is empty on the inside, his heart given to another...

Blay, after years of unrequited love, has moved on from his feelings for Qhuinn. And it’s about time: It seems Qhuinn has found his perfect match in a Chosen female, and they are going to have a young. It’s hard for Blay to see the new couple together, but building your life around a pipe dream is just a heartbreak waiting to happen. And Qhuinn needs to come to terms with some dark things before he can move forward...

Fate seems to have taken these vampire soldiers in different directions, but as the battle over the race’s throne intensifies, and new players on the scene in Caldwell create mortal danger for the Brotherhood, Qhuinn learns the true meaning of courage, and two hearts meant to be together finally become one.

Not for the Squeamish (Sexually, that is)

First, let me say that it is clear to me that Ms. Ward was just as committed to Lover At Last as she was to the other books in the series. The cast of characters - Black Dagger Brotherhood, Band of Bastards, the Baby Powder Brigade, the aristocracy, the spiritual leaders, and the supporting characters - did what they supposed to: they advanced the plot and served as background activity for the main event, i.e., the relationship between Qhuinn and Blay.

Second, while most readers respect the rights of LGBT couples to be 'out', most of us have no first-hand knowledge of how courtship works for persons who are LGBT. From the beginnings, Ms. Ward approaches the relationship between Qhuinn and Blay in such a way that we, the readers, experience the agony and the ecstasy of being in same-gender love. It's a lot like different-gender love, isn't it? I think that was the point.

Finally, can I just say that the sex scenes were hot? I can? Okay, the sex was SMOKIN'!! You go, girl.

J. R. Ward has taken the concept of LGBT courtship out of the closet, so to speak, and put respectfully and gently on center stage in this novel. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Well done, J.R. Well done!

A-mazing!

What did you love best about Lover at Last?

Is this a trick question?

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lover at Last?

The end of the epilogue. I won't type it out since it is a spoiler even though you know it's coming. I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes! Second fave is Blay talking to him mom on the phone... I was so worried for him! ;)

Which character – as performed by Jim Frangione – was your favorite?

Again, trick question? The only characters I don't like are the lessees. Even the BOBs grew on me.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes! But it's just too long. It did only take three nights and a bit of missed sleep though.

Any additional comments?

The only thing that bugged me was the lack of "luhbe"! Ouch! A little prep goes a long way...
Thanks for another great one Warden!

The Best BDB Book Hands Down

I loved the love story of Qhuinn and Blay. It has been a long torture to witness Blay struggle with his unrequited love for so many books before this one. The author did justice to the story as Qhuinn suffered so much in this book that I was right there with Blay in forgiving him. So romantic and hot - and I'm a heterosexual female. Awesome love story. I can't help
Wishing I was a vampire now. I guess we can all just try to be a little more like the brothers and their Shellans.

WOW!, WOW!, AND WOW! again....

Where does Lover at Last rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Currently, at the top of the list. I have never reviewed any of the books I got from Audible but JR Ward's BDB does it for me. I waited for Qhuinn and Blays story and was not disappointed. It reeled me in and I laughed, cried, screamed and fought right along side them.
The Narrator did a good job!

What did you like best about this story?

The sex/love sceens were moving and very exciting. Jr Ward did a great job with writing that material. I liked that she got her new characters mixed in the chapters I almost had to go back to the last book for a refresher. This is not a book for a first-timer.

Which scene was your favorite?

All the sexual moments between Qhuinn and Blay. Even when their minds where silent and resistent their bodies handled business. I Loved the passion between them. The ending was as it should be but just a little quiet for me.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The Brothers protection and love for their King always moves me.

Any additional comments?

I hate when it's over and I have to wait for the next opportunity to disappear into the BDB world. It's alway over to quickly.

At Last!!!!

Where does Lover at Last rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I love all of J.R. Ward's BBD books; however, I don't think this was one of the best. Though I was a little uncomfortable with the graphic m/m sex scenes, I'm glad the two main characters finally got together.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lover at Last?

Qhuinn's induction into the BBD and his and Blay's talk at the bar.

Which scene was your favorite?

There were quite a few favorable scenes throughout the who book. I can't pinpoint just one.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely not all in one sitting. I think it was a little drawn out.

Any additional comments?

Quite a few new character storylines were introduced. I am eagarly anticipating where they will lead. Needless-to-say, I can't wait for the next installment.
