Publisher's summary

Going back to college, hitting the books. That’s Ellen Cunningham’s new life. But money’s a little tight and she’s lucky enough to find inexpensive lodging in a house with three young college boys. Ellen plays housemother, a situation that works for everyone – except Reed Morgan, the absentee owner. He’s not pleased to find his house occupied by a bunch of college kids and Ellen. Especially Ellen.

Okay

Not either Debbie Macomber’s or Andi Arndt’s best, but an okay audio book. This book is from 1987 and the audiobook is much newer, but I still think Andi Arndt sounded young and not as seasoned of a narrator. I know some reviewers called this cheesy and corny, etc and it is a bit. However if you consider when it was first published and the genre both then and now, the author did a good job within the existing parameters and accepted norms. An update might work, but I am not sure it would translate. Anyway I give it a 4+ for the fact I listened to the whole book and enjoyed it. Worth a listen, especially on sale 😉

Heartfelt nostalgic favorite! Listened in one go.

I agree with “Luvmeags’s” review. What she said! Although I do believe this is one of Debbie Macomber’s best stories. The secondary characters are just as lovable as the main couple, and their interactions are amusing and sweet. I prefer contemporary romances, in general. But sometimes I’m in the mood for the simplicity and sweetness of a vintage romance. Even so, there are usually several places where I’m rolling my eyes and feeling annoyed at the historical norms for women. This book is definitely a product of the time it was written: 1987. But I just loved the entire audiobook! Not one single eye roll or annoying moment! It was an easy, pleasant, relaxing listen. It’s a heartfelt, feel good, sweet, fun read. Definitely worth the credit. I’ll be listening to this one again for sure!

Enjoyed the story set in Seattle

I’m so glad to listen to a book that does not offend my sensibilities. There really isn’t any reason
to be so explicit with the loves scenes and use of vulgar language. THANK YOU for this book I can read without skipping over parts that are offensive.

fun!

Fun book to listen to, I was sad to hear it end. Unlike other books where I had to constantly adjust the volume, the narrator has a even volumed voice as she paints the images in your mind through inflection and tone.

Great short story!

Nobody writes a great short story like Debbie Macomber. Great diversity of characters and that new love tension and angst.

1987 😂

I was wondering why she was so ok dating a man who was obviously dating 2 women at once.. and use of the word “housecoat”.. only to find out at the end this book was published in 1987!!! 🤣 That would not fly in 2022… 😜

As always, Andi Arndt is a dream. That’s the only reason I picked this quickie up as a palate cleanse after a Colleen Hoover mega book hangover.
