Publisher's summary

The basis for the motion picture starring Lily Collins and Sam Claflin!

What happens when two people who are meant to be together can't seem to get it right?

Rosie and Alex are destined for each other, and everyone seems to know it but them. Best friends since childhood, they are separated as teenagers when Alex and his family relocate from Dublin to Boston.

Like two ships always passing in the night, Rosie and Alex stay friends, and though years pass, the two remain firmly attached via emails and letters. Heartbroken, they learn to live without each other. But destiny is a funny thing, and in this novel of several missed opportunities, Rosie and Alex learn that fate isn't quite done with them yet.

I have enjoyed this book in audio and paperback.

I read this book once. It was loaned to me by one of my sister's friends. I loved it so much that I didn't want to give it back and if I had money at that time I would have bought it from the girl. However she loved the story as much as I so was reluctant to sell it.

When I started audio, I remembered the book and I searched google, amazon and audible to see if it was available. I couldn't find it and I was disappointed. Then I saw that the title was changed and I was even more ecstatic that it was available in audio. I do not mind the email structure of book, I found it refreshing because I have never read a book like that. It made it unique now I have it in audio so I can listen to it whenever I want to. I just goes to show that we can't run from fate and what is meant be will be. Once you set your goals stick to it have fate and your dreams will come through with hiccups and pitfalls along the way.

Darling dialogue!

This a sweet account of life. The letter format is fun! And all characters are vivid.

Mixed feelings....

I enjoyed the overall story, but not that it was written in third person aka: on paper.

Goes on waaaay too long - and the ending doesn't deliver.

I liked this story, but it just went on and on and literally spans FIVE decades for two characters. I found it frustrating bc you knew they'd end up together but it just took SO BLOODY LONG. Like this book could've easily been half as long. The correspondence only storytelling format grew tiresome. Also *spoiler alert* after sitting thru decades of these people's lives and emails, they only finally get together on the last page and Don't. Even. Kiss. Wtfffff?

Frustrating story but SO much fun to listen to!

I must clarify that I absolutely love the movie! With that in mind, you will be very very frustrated with the book. Why?, because if you thought that the movie was frustrating, meaning you wanted to scream at the characters for their lack of communication and luck, well the book makes it all worse!
The story overall is a lot more convoluted that the movie shows and what I absolutely loved about it is how much you learn about the different characters. Once you pass the initial shock of the story being told through letters, messages and chat conversations, you will learn to love the relationships the characters build. I can honestly say that once I finished it, I've found myself missing them.

A surprisingly addictive story

The format of this book is unusual with the entirety of the story told through the character's written communications (email, instant message, text, and chat room) which I initially thought would be distracting and difficult to follow but I couldn't have been more wrong. I was pulled completely into the lives of the characters and could not pull myself away. I'm so sad it's over.

Struggled to finish it. Loved the performance. It's is just not her best work. I was counting down to when it would. Be done.

Kinda boring

Not horrible but not great. Wish I would have bought a different one instead but this one was cheap. I guess you get what you pay for.
