Desperate Times....

It's been months since Lady Charlotte Chartwell's philandering husband met his untimely end at the hands of an angry mistress. But as miserable as he made Charlotte in life, his death proves to be an even harsher blow. For not a farthing of his fortune or estate have passed on to her, and as a ruined widow, she is destitute, penniless, and utterly without hope.

Lead To Desperate Pleasures....

Then, as Charlotte is considering the worst, a man steps into her carriage. His intentions are quite indecent at first, but the more he learns about her, the more an unfamiliar - and undesirable - emotion creeps over him. Could it be compassion? Never! For this is Alexander Baxendale, third Earl of Hawksford. He is known throughout the ton as the Lord of Pleasure, dedicated to passion, ruthless in his pursuit of sensual gratification. Yet never in all his exploits has he met a woman who could intrigue him as Charlotte does. Can this mysterious beauty make him hang up his title and see to her pleasure alone?

Great sequel to the 1st book Mistress of Pleasure

This may have been better than the first book, and the first book Mistress of Pleasure was really good. Great strong characters, great story, witty dialogue, hot and steamy sex, its all here.

At the beginning of the book I did think I was reading the books out of order. However, I finally realized that what was happening with the main characters, Alex and Charlotte was also happening at the same time as what was happening in the first book with Maybelle and Edmond. I know that sounds confusing, but its not really. You will figure it out. You're not reading out of order. Book 1 is Mistress of Pleasure and Book 2 is Lord of Pleasure.

Ahh if all men were required to attend the School of Gallantry, that would be treat. LOL

The narrator did a good job, but again, just as in the first book she pronounced the "ton" as the "tone" which was annoying. Historical Romance readers know what I am talking about. Otherwise she did do a very good job.

Definitely credit worthy.

3.5 STARS.... A GOOD-HUMORED ROMANTIC REGENCY ROMP

I was unaware that this is actually book 2 of the School Of Gallantry series but it could be a stand-alone listen and I listened to this first and I'm glad I listened to it the wrong way round because some of the characters seem a bit heartless and cold in book 1. It also gives a full description of how and why the secret tunnel and friendships were developed.

It's a totally implausible, passionate, sweet, funny, romantic romp through Regency London where we find Charlotte a beautiful, penniless Widow who's turning to desperate measures because her life is so dire. She propositions our hero Alexander - a reformed Rake who's handsome, charming, witty and deeply cares for the well-being and reputation of his 5 sisters (whose witty banter stole the show) and, because of his reformed ways he doesn't take her up on her proposition..... but weeks later he still can't forget her.

An enjoyable unrealistic plot ensues that's touching, sensual, sexy, lol funny and tender as we witness the H/H's attraction deepen and, as they try to fight it, their character development is heartwarming but necessary to overcome prejudices and scandals in order to get their romantic HEA ending. There's also some quirky secondary characters that make this a thoroughly entertaining listen.

Worth a credit? A lighthearted listen with no villains except the ton - so YES a delightful creditworthy listen as long as you're not expecting anything other than romantic FICTION.

Carolyn Morris I love you

If you could sum up Lord of Pleasure in three words, what would they be?

funny

If you’ve listened to books by Delilah Marvelle before, how does this one compare?

this is a better one but the ending is rushed

What does Morris Carolyn bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I LOVE THIS WOMAN. Her voice is soothing, this isn't one of her better male performances but shes really good at emotion and she is clear and can do several accents and genders. She really brings something to the tales she reads. I love her.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

" People don't pay enough attention" or "not what it seems" its funny how wrong the girl from "Mistress of pleasure" is about the lord in this book. He seems like a rapist in mistress of pleasure but in this one we see that she misunderstood literally everything he did and her grandmother also misrepresented him when she told her gran about him . This book overlaps with mistress of pleasure incase you are wondering why I am talking about that book.

Any additional comments?

I liked Lady Caroline(SP?) a lot she was very likable but I wish she was more as she had seemed to be in mistress of pleasure(demimondaine-ish ) .
These two books make it sound like they are glorifying female sexuality and independence but these women are only ok to the author because they aren't ACTUALLY corteseans. The only have sex with one man, thats it, so its not really empowering its actually just the same story as most other "innocent girl gets seduced by rake" thats what these two stories really are.

You've been warned.

I gave the first book in this series 3 stars. It was fun if not fabulous.

This second book is so ridiculous that I worried that my eyes would roll permanently up in my head.

It would not have taken much effort to make this a fun book. A logical plot would have done it. I can only conclude that the author never bothered to reread what she wrote. The male lead in particular, behaved in ways that were so bizarre that it felt like his actions and reactions might have been put together with the use of mad libs.

I really resent this author for producing such a poorly constructed hunk of junk that it's insulting. The publishing house should be ashamed as well. I put more thought into this review than they did in the plot of this book.

Apparently they think Romance readers are morons. Whatever I paid for this, it was too much.
