Could the disreputable Saint at long last be reformed?

I went for a ride

I loved this book! I love a romance with crazy circumstances and this delivered just the right amount! It was steamy and I fell in love with both main characters!

Not great

Might have been a better story to read as the narration was bad. Mediocre read.

really liked it

Great story. Very funny. Narrator was very good except for the hero's voice. I don't know what she was going for--sexy, confident rake? It came out more like wicked witch.

A perfect story and a great performance

The only improvement I would suggest is to offer the third in the series!! Good job ladies

FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!

If you like historical romance novels - this is one of the best I've ever heard. I laughed out loud several times and although I never cried, I was seriously worried for heroine. This book is just fantastic. The narrator is excellent. She made the characters come to life.

Terrible Narrator

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The narrator. The narrator uses a voice for the male lead that sounds as if he is in his 80's not 30's.

Would you be willing to try another one of Tavia Gilbert’s performances?

No!

Any additional comments?

I enjoy the author so I purchased the book instead of listening to this on my iPod.

Enjoyable

What did you love best about London's Perfect Scoundrel?

That Evelyn had almost an impossible task, because Saint was terrible. I wish Evelyn's character was stronger especially against her brother.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I like the character of Michael (Saint). He didn't seem redeemable.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

I disliked the narrator very much. Her voice for the men especially Saint was awful.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Saint realized that he truly loved Evelyn.

Bad Narration

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I really loved the story. In some parts I was laughing out loud. The only issue I have is that sometimes the characters are so black & white, with no nuances. All the men, for the most part are bad and the heroine and her friends are angels. I thought the hero, Saint, remained bad a little too long. I was really starting to hate him half way through the book.

What other book might you compare London's Perfect Scoundrel to and why?

This is very much like " 9 rules to break when romancing a rake), which is one of my favourite books.

What didn’t you like about Tavia Gilbert’s performance?

I have listened to her before and forgot how over-dramatic she can be. I like a book that is "performed", but not to this extent. Other reviews indicated the same and I really wanted to listen to this book. I would recommend it, but not the audio version.
The voice she used for Victor, was a masculine, commanding voice and I wished she had used it for Saint. The narrator made him sound like a "fop". This was very off-putting and I had to revise the voice in my head, which took me out of the story. Her over-dramatic style probably thought this would be an interesting voice to effect, but did not consider how it would sound to a listener.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

A better narrator would have made this book great. If the voices of the men were better I would listen to this book again and again.

Any additional comments?

Narrators really have to listen to how they are reading a book and not just use it as an exercise in performance art. No one listening to this book would consider the voicing of the male characters to be appropriate. In some instances the hero sounds very much like the heroine and in some scenes an over the top sinister villan from a cartoon series ( think Mr. Burns from the Simpsons). The sample would not have helped to determine this flaw, as it does not include any male dialogue.
Audible should give samples of the two main characters for better listening options.

My best top 5 of all times

I can not say how much I enjoyed this book. Not only witty and clever storyline and most amusing characters, but I could not for the life of me guess what was to happen next. Suzanne Enoch is now one of my favorite writers. If you don't purchase this book I can tell you it will be a great loss for you. Incredibly engaging to the point I did not want to let it finish by pausing and engaging in other activities as to prolong my pleasure. Absolutely enchanted. Narration was also done very nicely. A perfect ten for both writer and narrator. Thank you both for adding fun and color to my life through this book

Returned

To be fair to the story I will tell you that although I found the beginning to be slightly dull it was not so dull as to deserve to be returned outright. It may have progressed to that point later but I was unable to get past listening to the first couple chapters. So I rated the story a 3. I absolutely could not stand the narrator and that is why I returned before finishing. She did well enough with the females but the men were atrocious. As a romance novel part of the draw is falling a little in love with the main characters yourself. There was absolutely no way for me to do that as all the men sounded like women. The male leads voice was like nails on chalkboard. He made Bonnie Charlie from the show version of Outlander seem butch. Just the most sissy sounding pretentious jerk with a prostrate problem involving a stick. Maybe I will look for a paper version at a library and give it another chance. Definitely a big no on the audiobook.
