Publisher's summary

Life is good for Eric Schuster. He owns a highly successful tech company, has a great group of buddies, and he's about to marry his best friend, the man of his dreams. Eric is pleasantly surprised to find the transition from friends to lovers has been easier than he thought. But after running into an overly friendly ex-boyfriend on an impromptu trip to their shared hometown, Eric realizes things are about to get complicated.

Zane Richards is a quintessential California surfer dude turned professional sailor. His laid-back approach has helped him navigate difficult times in his life. Eric may not share his easy-going mindset but Zane knows without a doubt Eric is the one. However, carving a future together may require confronting a piece of the past Zane thought he'd left far behind. Both men will have to decide if they're willing to risk what they know for a chance to lean into always.

Loved the writing

Any additional comments?

I hadn’t read Book #1 where Eric and Zane first got together and, although this book is a continuation of this story, the fact that I hadn’t read it didn’t hinder my enjoyment of this delightful novella. The characters and their situation are set up nicely from the start and draw the listener in immediately.

Seth Clayton is the perfect narrator for this story. Told entirely from Eric’s POV his voice seems an ideal match for the character’s personality. It’s gentle and empathetic, with the right amount of emotion and emphasis. He creates an interesting range of voices for the other characters.

Eric and Zane are an established couple, opposites in character yet totally in love and preparing for their wedding in a couple of months time. Everything is sweetness and light. That is, until Zane’s ex makes an appearance and Eric is justifiably jealous when Zane spends time with him sailing and sorting out a boat for a client.  There’s a nice balance between the sweet and the sizzling scenes and also a few fraught ones as they deal with Eric’s response to the interloper.  Dean is doing his best to regain Zane’s affections and plays on Eric’s insecurity. I loved the writing, the angst, and the way the main characters interacted. So much so, I bought the first story in the series so I could find out how they got together in the first place.

Short and sweet

This little tale gives us another look into Zane and Eric’s lives and relationship. It also introduces one of Zane’s ex, who’s a jerk. It was fun to spend some time with these fellas. This book would better off listened to after you listen to Leaning into Love first. The narrator does a great job.

Narrator was great

I am really digging this narrator. I listened to him in another lane Hayes book, and he was awesome. Dang the lines were he was supposed to and in this one made the voice effects or snorts or even peck on the cheeks were he was supposed to, not only read the lines. This made the experience way better. The story was ok. I do love friend to lovers story and the jealousy added something but I think that it was not well developed and the reason could have been due to the shortness of the story.
