Publisher's summary

Lady Eve's got the perfect plan. Pretty, petite Evie Windham has been more indiscreet than her parents, the Duke and Duchess of Moreland, suspect. Fearing that a wedding night would reveal her past, she's running out of excuses to dodge adoring swains. Lucas Denning, the newly titled Marquis of Deene, has reason of his own for avoiding marriage. So Evie and Deene strike a deal, each agreeing to be the other's decoy. At this rate, matrimony could be avoided indefinitely...until the two are caught in a steamy kiss that no one was supposed to see. Contains mature themes.

Great hero

Interesting and well developed storyline and good character development. Not sure if I liked the heroine as much at the beginning but as the story developed and as the hero helped her get stronger as a woman, she became much more likable. Would have liked to see some improvement in the male character as well, meaning it would have been nice to leave a small flaw or two to correct as their relationship grew.

The only other comment I have to make is that I wish Grace would have dealt with the "indiscretion" differently. Instead of talking about it the entire time until the first sexual encounter and then NOT mentioning it again until the very end of the book, it would have been nice to read it right after the first coupling. I had to go back again to make sure I did not miss the discussion, but I had not. I feel it took away from the book to leave that very important discussion to then to the very last page of the book. frustrating and confusing for the reader. A lovely end to the story nevertheless.

Plot a bit thin

Like the other books in this series, the main conflict is convoluted and not much of a problem. This one was solved a bit too easily. Nothing weaves together well. I do not care for many of the voices. He does one male voice that makes the character sound 90 when he’s 30.

Another good installment

I thought this book was great. It did touch on the heroines fall, but kept the mystery of exactly how. The villain was great and the ending came alive with the descriptions of the race.

I think this is my least favorite of the Windham books thus far, and that’s saying something since I haven’t been impressed by this series at all so far.

Eve’s “indiscretion” was so horribly mishandled I’m utterly stunned that the author would handle rape like this. I don’t care if it’s the culture of the period, waiting until the last 5 minutes of the book to have the couple discuss what happened to her is just outrageous. Not to mention the fact that her whole family either knew or figured out what had happened and basically let Eve punish herself for 7 years.

Her parents and Lucas essentially manipulate her into marrying, even though they have arguably good intentions. The whole thing just boggles the mind. The “twist” with the cousin was painfully obvious and the whole fight over his niece was so unnecessarily complicated. This book could’ve been so much better if it hadn’t been so dragged out and the character interactions been handled better.

Not impressed. Not impressed at all. Sticking with this series because I’m so close to the end but definitely wouldn’t compare Burrowes’ Windhams with the likes of Julia Quinn’s Bridgertons or Tracey Anne Warren’s Byrons of Braebourne.

I think this is my favorite!

I’ve loved Dean since the first book he was in and I’m so glad it was a good story between him and Eve. 😊. Definitely worth your listen!
