Publisher's summary

Lady Alexandra MacIntyre has made up her mind. Having grown up in near poverty, she's marrying for money - a lot of money - and she'll do anything to achieve her goal...even get herself caught in a compromising situation by her overprotective and smugly conventional - although achingly handsome - new stepbrother, Lord Evan Xavier.

Evan, the second son of the Earl of Brighton, considers Alexandra a genuine pain in his arse. She's beautiful, yes, but also headstrong and lacking in social graces and respect for authority. Unfortunately, while his father and her mother are away on their wedding trip, she is his responsibility. When she announces her plan to travel to London, he has no choice but to go along as her protector.

When the two are stranded after a carriage accident, circumstances spiral out of control, and the heat between them can't be denied. Rescue is on its way, but Alexandra still has her own agenda....

So hooked on this series

So amazing! I was sucked In by Alexandria's strength and bravery. Evan was a perfect match for her. They are passionate, fierce, loving and earth shattering together.

Tantalizingly erotica with a little comedy..

Magnificent performance and the story kept me intrigued. The characters of this century are no different than the ones we meet every single day. Lots of uncover freaking deaky going on.

Loved the story, didn’t like the chapter-starting book excerpts...

...at all. Were the excerpts written in the style of the era? Ugh. The author’s writing is so good otherwise, the excerpts were painful. To make matters worse, I couldn’t skim past them because I was listening on audiotape. I would have given this five stars if not for that.

I loved the torrential passion between the H and h. While I did like the hero, he suffered from the same type of flawed reasoning and unnecessary cruelty directed at the H as the hero in the previous book. There is misunderstanding, and then there is stupidity. I guess it was easier to take here because the heroine was a lot more flawed herself, and the hero was so passionately in love.

The narration was good.

Disappointed

Sorry, couldn’t get past Chapter 7. Compared to the previous 2 books very disappointed from the beginning, especially with the constant breaking in of the other book readings.
Again, I am sorry because I do like this Author very much.

Scattered tale with erotica but thin on romance.

I found this publication under erotic romance. The erotica is there but I find the romance to be lacking. The female MC (Alexandria) is a self centered, mercenary girl who past is sad but does not justify her actions IMO. She writes stories about a female named Prudence who I find repulsive as a sexual predator. An example is when Prudence threatens her aunt's footman's livelihood if he doesn't suck her didd*ies. Prudence exercises her power on dependents to achieve sexual satisfaction. Sex without any real emotion seems to be the only thing Prudence cares about. While I think it's great for women to be sexually aware and exercise it, I don't feel feminism is about adopting the male habit of imposing power on those less fortunate who do not have the voice to say no. I suppose the author used terminology in the tales that is historically accurate but I find it off putting. The terms didd*dies, bubb*ies and qui*m jut isn't attractive to me although I do like erotic romance if it is well done. There is girl on girl action which is fine if you like that; I just fast forwarded through that part. The stories of Prudence's erotic letters to Emily (an unknown person not relevant to the story) are inserted into the main work. Besides finding the letters disturbing, I found it distracting. It would have been better if the letters were left out and we were just informed that Alexandria wrote erotica.

The male MC is named Evan and I found him to be a likeable character as well as Alexandria's sister, Sophie. I would have preferred the two of them get together because I never felt Alexandria deserved Evan. At any rate, I slogged through to Chapter 21 at which point I had totally lost interest. So many good books, so little time therefore I don't want to waste any more time on this one. I won't be revisiting this author although I thought the narrator did a good job.
