Publisher's summary

The happiest day of Payton Lambert's life was the day she graduated high school and watched Bald Knob, Kentucky, get smaller and smaller in her rearview mirror. She wanted more for her life than a tiny town where everyone knows your business and you can't find a decent cup of coffee for at least 40 miles. Twelve years later an unexpected phone call in the middle of the night has her packing up her life in Chicago and racing back home to the one person she ever regretted leaving behind.

Upon her return she sees that Leo Hudson, the scrawny boy who had followed Payton around like a puppy and could recite cow insemination facts in his sleep, is long gone. Leo is still hot on her heels, but now he's wearing a sheriff badge and dead set on solving a murder that may or may not involve Payton, along with half the town. In a town where the biggest crime happened the day someone kicked a few of his cows, people are pointing fingers, rumors are spreading like wildfire, and Payton swears she's only making out with the sweet-talking, studly sheriff to distract him from the secrets she's keeping.

When you've been tased, peed on by a yippy dog named Bo Jangles, and can't stop picturing what Sheriff Hudson looks like naked, it will be a tough job making everyone agree that Jed had to die.

What a happy surprise!

When I give a 5 star review it's because the book is a classic and I'd recommend it to anyone or it surprised the crap out of me and earned the stars in its genre. This book is the latter. I often enjoy the cozy mysteries between reading more hard core thrillers. There are a lot of good, fun cozies out there, but they do become formulaic and predictable. Jed Had to Die broke the pattern. It's hilarious. The way the story develops between the main actors and the townspeople was a brilliant way to tell the tale. It's also got smexy scenes, downright very cozy. So, if you like coffee, enjoy sarcastic humor, and throw in a little mystery, quirky characters and a hottie this is a good book for you.

!!! LIQUID CRACK !!!

Coffee Mug: A good friend knows how you take your coffee...A great friend adds booze!

The publisher's summary is spot on with plenty of detail which drew me to this book and reviews telling how hilarious it is.

If you haven't experienced small town living think of something like 'The Andy Griffith Show...Mayberry RFD.' Everyone knows everyone and they're all over each others business. This is why Payton left Bald Knob, Kentucky and moved to Chicago where she opens a coffee shop named Liquid Crack.

Payton receives an emergency phone call and returns to Bald Knob to help a friend. A few days later her friends husband 'Jed' is found dead. The hilarious investigation and antics of Payton and girl friends begin....

As I said this book is hilarious, there's also a hot sexy relationship with the sheriff (all I'm saying about that, you have to listen :), fun, mystery and girlfriends bonding and supporting each other.

Tara Sivec has a great sense of humor, fun, and laughter in her writing.

Amy McFadden gives a very funny, comical, hilarious performance.

Worth a credit/$$ Absolutely. I'll listen to this book over and over.

5 Jed had to Die Stars

Tara Sivec books are a no brainer seriously you know when you pick on up your going to fall in love and laugh your booty off.

Jed had to Die is totally funny with serious content. We have a mystery, a love story, a friendship, humor and COFFEE!!!
Can I have a cup of Payton’s coffee please!!! Whatever she does to one I need one!

Payton is from a small town but choose to spread her wings in Chicago, where she opens up a coffee shop call Liquid Crack.. (BEST Shop Name EVER)
She gets a call that an old friend is in the hospital, she wastes no time getting back to her hometown to take care of her.

The Sheriff of her home town is a hottie mick-toddy. And this does not go a miss with Payton. Only she doesn't realize she knows say Sheriff.

Leo or the Sheriff was the nerd who was a few years older than Payton and used to be her tutor. He is so swoon worthy and fun. His smirk.. I swear!!
He was so taken with Payton then and now it’s adorable and sexy and sooo freaking HOT. Who doesn't like a man in uniform who is a secret nerd?

This whole book I was laughing or smiling or giggling like a school girl, the town and its people. Payton and her antics, her friends then and now. It’s fanfreakintastic this book really got me out of a book funk.

The narration….OH MY GOD….FABULOUS!
I loved it Amy McFadden does such a good job, I am a huge fan! I can’t even tell you how much I love her work.

The literary equivalent of a Hallmark Channel movie with sex.

Sweet, contrived and predictable. This is light chick lit with lots of romance, sex and humor.

Ok

2hrs in. Lead female is a hot headed blowhard. Waiting for the humor.
5 hrs in. Not quite pulling off a Stephanie Plum. There are spots where its funny, then goes idiotic. this one may be better to read.
The last few chapters were better.

Molly Harper + The Dixie Chicks

Any additional comments?

Take Molly Harper's wit and locales, add the black humor of "Goodbye Earl" from the Dixie Chicks, and the character of Felony Melanie from "Sweet Home Alabama," and you've got the basic structure of "Jed Had To Die."

But as much as there are many aspects of this romantic mystery that are reminiscent of other works, it stands on its own as an original. "Jed Had To Die" is warm, funny, and sweet. And I highly recommend it.

And Amy McFadden? Perfect!

Hilarious and Intriguing

Jed Had to Die is a clever, funny, sexy, high-energy read that kept me laughing and guessing until the end. Tara Sivec never disappoints. Her brand of comedy plus chemistry plus intriguing mystery is always a home-run. But the coffee cup sayings may have been my most favorite part of the entire story!

Yay for feminism..?

I'm not even 20 minutes into the book and I'm already annoyed. Right away, the author paints the MC as this awesome feminist figure who got out of her small hometown to make something of herself and become a successful business owner, who doesn't want to get married or need a man to take care of her as she perfectly capable on her own. They are literally discussing this as they are interrupted by a random character who doesn't "fit" their standards of acceptable: the way she looks/dresses, talks, eats/drinks (by what she ordered) is all wrong and they immediately threaten her and force her to leave the place of business because she had the nerve to ask for *gasp* a caramel macchiato and was wearing Uggs in June. They berate her and then the writing goes on to paint her as some dumb girl for liking these things.

So yeah, great. So much for feminism and lifting women up despite their interests.
