Publisher's Summary

An off-season adventure, driving his expensive, new car from L.A. to New York, got Jake Lawrence's motor running. Free from his snooty, Park Avenue girlfriend, the third baseman hit the highway, ready for anything. Or so he thought.

Kate MacKenzie, aspiring musical theater star, sneaked out of her motel room, after her mother had gambled away all the young woman's money. In the middle of nowhere with less than four dollars to her name, the plucky actress planned to waitress her way to New York for a Broadway audition. All she needed was a job that paid enough for bus fare.

Saving the beauty from a beating by the motel manager, Jake offers Kate a ride all the way to Manhattan. Leery of offers from men, Kate had no choice but to accept. She vowed to preserve her dignity, and keep the sexy slugger at arm's length. Mutual attraction couldn't derail the pair from their goals. Kate's dream of making it on Broadway, collided with Jake's of making it to the World Series. Will their road trip lead to love? Or to a lonely existence of separation, and insecurity?

Jake and Kate

Jake, third baseman for the Nighthawks, was taking his new car from California to New York when he rescued Kate, an aspiring actress trying to get to New York. He offers to take her when he finds out she's broke. Along the way, they find they are attracted to each other and eventually fall in love. There are some ups and downs with the baseball team travelling and then with Kate getting an acting job with the Broadway road show. They have to figure out how to work out all these problems. I really enjoyed Jean Joachim's writing and Jim Robert's narration. I can't wait for another installment in this baseball series. I did receive a free copy in exchange for my honest review.

The baseball player and the aspiring Broadway star

Jake is making a cross country road trip after taking delivery of his new luxury car when he happens upon a young woman in need of assistance. Kate is trying to get to NYC for a Broadway audition when she falls upon hard times. This is an enjoyable story about their adventure on the road and where it leads.

Fun Sport Romance

I really enjoyed listening to this book. I had read a couple of the others, but this is the first audio book I listened to from this series. The main characters were so fun and interesting to follow their ups and downs to the HEA. Jake was the sweetest guy I have read in a long time, always caring for others. The writing was spot on, flowing well from one scene to the next. The narration was ok, but I would have preferred a younger voice and a better female voice. I am looking forward to more from this author. I volunteered to listen to this recording and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Fun Baseball Romance

I enjoyed Jake and Kate's story but there was one major flaw. Jake was driving across the country shortly before the start of the season. Ball players have spring training from mid-February right up until opening day, so this story isn't possible! Ignoring that fact, I liked that Jake was a gentleman who didn't want to take advantage of their situation and make Kate feel uncomfortable on the trip. He respected and supported her career goals, even though it meant that they had to be separated for a lengthy period. We need more Jakes in this world! The narration was okay but he sounded much older than Jake, who is in his 20's. Overall, Jake Lawrence, Third Base: Bottom of the Ninth, Book 3 was a fun listening experience and I would recommend it.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This review is my honest opinion.

Good sweet story, but...

This audiobook story is about a professional baseball player who is driving from California to NYC. Along the way he rescues a stranded aspiring Broadway actress, who is also trying to get to NYC. He offers to let her ride along with him and she reluctantly agrees. While on the road they get to know each other and start falling for each other. This was an enjoyable story, but I have to say that the narrator was totally wrong for this character and made it hard to listen to. He sounds like a 70 year old dirty old man instead of a 29 year old guy. The female voice he did was also horrible.
