Publisher's summary

It wasn't just her homemade brownies that made Walker find Elissa irresistible....

When ex-Marine Walker Buchanan stops to help Elissa Towers change a tire, he tells himself it's just the neighborly thing to do. And when Elissa finds herself baking him a thank-you pie, she's just returning the favor...right?

Both of them have sworn off dating: Elissa's determined to protect her little girl, and that means ditching her taste for dangerous men...especially former Marines with dark secrets.

Walker knows that he's not cut out for hearth and home...his own crazy family made sure of that.

But the sparks won't stop flying between them.

Now the two are struggling to keep their relationship "just friends", but with every kiss, their rules fly out the window.

Critic reviews

"Mallery is at her addictive best in the charming second installment of her Buchanan family saga....The best-selling author crafts vivid characters and a winning story about the risk and joy of second love, studded with warm, alluring sex scenes." (Publishers Weekly)

Not as good as the first..

The second book in the Bucannon Series was a bit disappointing. Found myself rolling my eyes often at the direction of the story. I like the characters that were introduced in the first book but they have lost there luster in this presentation. The narrator a disappointment after listening to Therese Plummer (my favorite) and the voices she chose for the two main characters slow and dull. Still a light read and basic love story with the expected ending.

Really great audiobook

Cecelia Frontero did an amazing job of narrating this book, she gets just the right variation in voices and makes the males voices sound masculine without over doing it.
This story was sweet and easy to listen to. The book kept moving well and the characters were really relatable and had enough backstory and depth that I cared what happened to them and cared if they got their happy ending.

Almost too sweet

I’m glad Therese Plummer is reading the other books in this series. It is amazing how much her readings add to a story.

Saccharine sweet

This book was OK but the narration was just so saccharine that it was hard to keep listening at times.

Truly Irresistible

A quick, fun listen that completely sucked me in. I've never read any of Susan Mallery's books before, and I got the feeling there was some backstory I was missing, but it was definitely fine as a standalone. Reminded me a lot of Susan Elizabeth Phillips -- really engaging, spunky heroine, and good relationships/subplots with the other characters as well. I picked it up on a whim, and was hooked just listening to the sample. It actually made me clean my house because I wanted to keep listening! If that's not a sign of a good book, nothing is.

Good Character Development

Nice character dynamic. Mallery's books are always predictable but enjoyable. A little bit of danger occurs in this story as well.

Very touching story

This is a kind of romance most people would root for. Characters are resistant yet drawn to each other and real people who have been through msjor hardships yet cannot admit they are ready for and deserve love.

Its good but…

What did you love best about Irresistible?

I loved that you weren’t sure about what was going to happen. The mane characters had a very nice storyline going but I also liked the supporting characters stories. Or the little hints we were able to see.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Cecelia Frontero?

I have to be honest. I did not very much care for this narrator. I would have much rather Therese Plummer. I did like Ms. Frontero’s voice but I did not think her voice distinguished the characters successfully. In my opinion; when your listening to an Audiobook you need to be able to KNOW who is speaking at the time. I also didn’t like the fact that Noemi’s accent was all wrong! I have to admit I felt like she didn’t give the characters the proper voice. (Sorry)

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I loved when Walker said: 'Yes, I'm your Daddy'... Just about broke my heart. (A few othe moments but only sharing 1)

Any additional comments?

The last book left me wanting more of Penny and Cal’s story but I’m glade this wasn’t a continuation but rather a chance to get to know more of the Buchanan family. I love the fact the series will apparently expand a little bit more on the Buchanan family. I’m starting to like this family very much. (So even-though the narration was not my favorite, I WOULD STILL GET IT!)
