Publisher's summary

Will he secure his future by ruining hers, or will she ruin his plans by securing him? A new twist on the old fortune-hunter plot puts an impoverished earl in a position to gain his fortune only by ruining an innocent's reputation without offering marriage. The innocent he's selected, however, has no plans to settle for anything less than marriage and will go to almost any length to secure him.

With no other means for an income, the impoverished Andrew Black, earl of Townson, makes an agreement that will put a definite end to his eight-year poverty streak. But in order to gain his fortune, he must do only one simple thing: ruin an innocent young lady's reputation enough to make her flee to America.

Brooke Banks isn't interested in marriage, or so she thinks. She came to London to have a good time, and that's exactly what she's doing. Widely known for her tendency to flout the rules, she suspects nothing when a handsome stranger appears on her doorstep.

Thirteen days, a handful of kisses, and one scandalous situation later, Andrew and Brooke will have to choose to stick to their original plans or decide if a life together is worth the risk.

It was okay, but not outstanding

The book and performance were equally mediocre overall. If you’re looking for something to zone out with it’s perfect but it never truly captured my attention

At little long and boring...

It could have been shortened up a bit or some exciting elements added. Narration was good.

WONDERFUL!

Wow! What a surprise! I wasn't sure at 1st how much I'd enjoy this book, but now I'm anxiously downloading the next book (at midnight) in the series! A bit confusing at 1 point where who had an an affair with which Duke or what countess did what with who & if enemies really were related or not etc., etc., Once you get thru that part (I listened 3 times & thought the only way I'd truly figure out who belonged to who was to write it down, but I skipped that & am glad, as the rest of the book was great & that part didn'tmatter in the end...tho' we'll see if it does in the next book!). So appreciative to Audible this was a free "Included" book as I thoroughly enjoyed it & oh so needed something to take my mind off of my real life! Happy listening. Very decent narration! Some sex but nothing too graphic, but true love - YES!❤

Intentions of the earl

This historical romance is pretty wonderful. I enjoyed the characters and the predicaments that they found themselves in.

Skeptical at first

This really turned out to be a great story. Parts of it were a little bit convoluted and I had to relisten to a few sections but overall I'm going to go to the next book in the series. Great work from this author.

Great story and pretty good narration.

Loved the story! Beware there are a couple of illicit scenes, they are short enough to skip over. Would have been better without them.

The narrator does pretty well, but you cannot tell all of the characters apart, English, Southern, American, and obviously male and female, but the sisters all sound alike, the English men all sound alike, the American men all sound alike. The narration between dialogue has no inflection, pitch, pace or power. The dialogue was not read the way the author intended. It was read with all the same feeling. When a character was supposed to be shouting, whispering or “they said in a trembling voice”…the narrator did not make any change in her voice. She read with no feeling. Perhaps this was her first time reading the book? If she had time to practice it beforehand she would have done much better. She has a lovely voice.
I really think that with practice she could become an excellent narrator. Read the chapter ahead, anticipate the mood, learn pitch, pace, power…
Overall I still gave it a 4 because I enjoyed the storyline and look forward to the rest of the series.

This was a good novel

Don’t go by the reviews. This was NOT a terrible horrible book as other reviews would suggest. Imho, it dragged at some points in the novel but, IT HAPPENS! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, listen to this one and judge for yourself 😊👍
