Growing up the outcast in an infamous family of psychics, Nate Black never learned how to control his empath abilities. Then after five years without contact, his estranged twin turns up dead in New York City. The claim of suicide doesn't ring true, especially when a mysterious vision tells Nate it was murder. Now his long-hated gift is his only tool to investigate.

Hitching from his tiny Texas town, Nate is picked up by Trent, a gorgeous engineer who thrives on sarcasm and skepticism. The heat that sparks between them is instant and intense, and Nate ends up trusting Trent with his secrets - something he's never done before. But once they arrive in the city, the secrets multiply when Nate discovers an underground supernatural community, more missing psychics, and frightening information about his own talent. Nate is left questioning his connection with Trent. Are their feelings real, or are they being propelled by abilities Nate didn't realize he had?

His fear of his power grows, but Nate must overcome it to find his brother's killer and trust himself with Trent's heart.

Slow Build Riveting Paranormal Thriller

Seeing a vision of his twin brother's death leads a troubled man with empathic abilities and a boatload of past troubles to seek out the truth of his brother's death. Nate's search unearths dark family secrets, an organization of psychics in NYC, and a possibility of love. I only meant to listen for a little while and found myself pulled in and captivated.

Insight is from Nate's point of view and I enjoyed getting to know this guy who could not seem to catch a break. There is always a bittersweet quality to him as he slogs through his life avoiding his hometown bullies and his whacked out family. There is so much he doesn't know and it seems that everyone is keeping him in the dark.

But then he encounters Trent. Wow, was this guy a wonderful rush of fresh air and sunshine in Nate's life. I loved the slow and steady way the pair get to know each other on their road trip from Texas to NYC. Trent is as normal and average as it comes with no psychic abilities, but he is the strength and loyalty and friendship that Nate learns is more valuable than having some psychic gift.

The mystery is intriguing and I went through this book not sure who was the biggest danger because so many of the characters are more than they seem. I was proud of myself for figuring out early on who Nate's secret helper was though even that story had so much more to it than I originally guessed. This got intense and exciting and I was right there, riveted. I couldn't seem to put this book aside.

Greg Boudreaux was a new to me narrator, but I was well pleased with his fabulous work on this book. He was a big part of why I was so into the story. He had a good sized cast of characters to act and I thought he got them and the situation and tone of each scene just right.

All in all, I was thrilled with this first entry of The Community series. I'm definitely going back for me. Those who enjoy intense mysteries with a paranormal element and a slow burn m/m romance should give this book/series a go.

Must read/listen

I love this series.. the narrator was amazing. Santino is a master of his craft. I can not say enough about the community series as a whole because it truly is one of my all time favorites and coming from someone who does not normally do PNR I feel like that says a lot.

Could have been better

Think the whole idee behind the story and world-building is awesome, I love storys with super powers/psychics, but I think this fell a little short in its delivery. Basically we got Nate, a depressed empath who after a vision of his twins death deside to leave his messed up (actually really disturbed) family behind to go to NY and find out what happened. He basically got no money and his only plan is to get there with no clues at all on how to find anything out. On his way to walk there he is picked up by Trent, who act a little like a duch at first but he gets better. Now here is the thing that annoys me, we dont really get any back-story for any of the main charachters, except for the few things we learn about Nates family and his falling out with his twin Theo and that Trent is a student. It made it hard for me to really get any conections with them as they go thru the story and made them kinda boring compared to the people they meet. Also once Nate get to NY he question maybe ten people under a week or so and figure out who the bad guy is. Nate is increadably naive if you ask me, he dosnt seem to get that his actions has consequenses and that people end up dead becouse of it. I know Nate is attracted to Trents "warm feelings" when he toutch him but to confide the truth to someone you just met made me wanna smack him ontop of the head.
Almost think this book should have been so much better if it had been about Theo insted, he at least went out of his way to learn how to control his powers and his quest for answers sounded much more intersting than Nates story.
There are ofcourse some good and some thriling moments too, so it isnt all bad.
Dispite the disappointment in the story the narrator was really good, think Greg saved the story to be honest. Really love his voice!

I so enjoyed this book! Interesting, intriguing, amusing and terrifying at points. The bond that Nate and Trent formed was so beautiful. Can’t wait to delve into the next book!!

this book was good but....not what I was looking for. I almost gave up half way through but stuck with it. unfortunately the end left me with more questions then answers. I might continue on with the rest of the series but not right away

Brilliant start to a new series

I can’t wait for the next book to come out on audio as the amazing Greg Boudreaux did an awesome job narrating this story. I loved this world where there are so many psy abilities. I did have the “bad guy” figured out as something about them just jumped out at me when they first walked onto page. But, I didn’t know the why. I loved the secondary characters but Chase is the one that really broke my heart. I loved him!
