Publisher's summary

More than a century after the tragedy of Hélène's death, and before Ella found Kale bruised and broken on her doorstep, Kale moves through the world in a haze of personal punishment, allowing it to consume him. Until his friend, Detective Deacon, a newly infected Chorý, calls on him for a favor.

In this prequel to the Few Are Angels series, Kale is thrown into a world of human blood trafficking and is introduced to a Chorý that offers him a chance at happiness - in blood.

Found a new favorite author!

I received this book for free by the author/narrator for an honest and unbiased review.

I love paranormal and I love finding new takes on the paranormal genre. My favs are Kim Harrison, Jeaniene frost, Charlaine Harris, just to name a few.
This book is amazing, definitely a 5 star read and listen. The book made me feel so many different emotions and I guess that's what made me love it. I'm not a fan of just angst or just HEA. I love substance and you get substance with this book. The characters were well developed too. I can't wait to move on to her other books.
Worth a credit - YES

Happy Reading/Listening!!!

took a bit for me to get in to it.

I had a hard time getting into this. It wasn't bad, but something just made it hard for me to read. To me the characters are kind of bland. however, I did find that as this story developed, I became more into it. . the plotline was interesting, At times it was a little too predictable, and Sola and Kale’s relationship was a bit strange but doable. .

Dry dry dry narration

I wanted to like this book. And I wonder if I would have liked it better if I had read it to myself. There was no inflection in the voices, while the French accent was very good. Just feel a little let down by it.

Good Story -Audio quality mixed till ch 18

Any additional comments?

Enjoyable, interesting, engaging and entertaining.

Overall a really good story. Love the world the author has created for characters. It's always a plus when you find a new and interesting paranormal twist created by an author. This shows that they actually took the time to develop their story and the character's.

Kale and Deacon are both great characters. Sola was likable, just never connected with her character. So I'm glad the story played out the way it did. Started a little slow for me but by the time I was done with this story I was looking for the next book. I definitely will be continuing with the series.

Song titles as chapter headings, While I don't mind this and am familiar with most of the songs used, if this is not your normal genre of music the chapter titles have no meaning.

Needs to tighten up some of the dialogue. Saying hands free device repeatedly. Ok we get it, he's not holding his phone while he's driving.
Chapter 2 there is a repeated phrase" the accented voice came from"
Audio has a Fuzzy quality in some of the chapters for the first 17 chapters. This clears up at the start of chapter 18. If an audio has the fuzzy sound in the background I return it.

Jim Kent narrator - this is the first time I have heard him. Different voices for the characters. Female voices were pretty good as well. Nice pleasant voice. Regular part of the narration when he is not voicing a character is slightly flat/dry in the beginning. This may also have something to do with the audio quality. I have listened to previews for the other books he has narrated and he sounds great. He may just not have been the right narrator for this book.
