Publisher's summary

An emotionally stirring novel that shows how obstacles can be overcome, differences can be strengths, and sometimes a choice can seem wrong, even though it's absolutely right.

If not for her loving but controlling parents, Beth Prudhomme might never have taken charge of her life and moved from her native Chicago to Portland, Oregon, where she's reconnected with her spirited aunt Sunshine and found a job as a high school music teacher. If not for her friend Nichole, Beth would never have met Sam Carney, although first impressions have left Beth with serious doubts. Sam is everything Beth is not - and her parents' worst nightmare: a tattooed auto mechanic who's rough around the edges. Reserved and smart as a whip, Beth isn't exactly Sam's usual beer-drinking, pool-playing type of woman, either.

But if not for an awkward setup one evening, Beth might never have left early and been involved in a car crash. And if not for Sam - who witnessed the terrifying ordeal, rushed to her aid, and stayed with her until help arrived - Beth might have been all alone, or worse. Yet as events play out, Sam feels compelled to check on Beth almost daily at the hospital - even bringing his guitar to play songs to lift her spirits. Soon their unlikely friendship evolves into an intense attraction that surprises them both.

Before long, Beth's strong-willed mother, Ellie, blows into town spouting harsh opinions, especially about Sam, and reopening old wounds with Sunshine. When shocking secrets from Sam's past are revealed, Beth struggles to reconcile her feelings. But when Beth goes a step too far, she risks losing the man and the life she's come to love.

It was okay.

The main character wasn’t likable and immature. It was a fine story, but as it went on I found myself rooting against Beth. No

I'm Glad I Found this book

Why we all need 2nd chances at love. This is a clean romance, nothing to hot a steamy like other books I love to read. Anyways, first time grade school teacher meets a mechanic that her fellow co-worker set up. They didn't hit it off at first since they both didn't know they were setup on a blind date. But, a accident occurs which brings them together as friends and slowly becomes more. But secrets are brought up to surface and things turns things upside down.

But there are other stories along with this main two co-mingle here. And, oh man this is a slow burnn..

Not my favourite story but still good

I have found that I have listened to about Debbie Macomber’s books in a row and I don’t know if it’s my age, but I do love her style and even though the books are “predictable”, you get to know the characters and the observations are realistic, they are not sloppy so I don’t cringe and roll your eyes; I get in my car, switch on and listen on my commute.

This wasn’t my favourite story, mainly because I found the main character, I think I preferred Sunshine and I hope Peter isn’t a gaslighter, because he sounded moody - can someone change that much? He sounded like he didn’t like anyone at the start.

The narrator was fantastic and I think I’ve listened to many books read by her.

Just because, this wasn’t my favourite book, I did enjoy it and I will carry on listening to her books because I like them.

Almost didn't finish

I was bored for most of book but then the story picked up toward the end. Narrator was really good and gave the characters personality. At times I wanted to shake a few characters but glad I finished the book because the ending had a message.

First time Debbie Macomber reader

Honestly, wasn't a fan. One of the turn offs was the Bible being Incorporated into the book. I've never read anything by the author previously so I was unaware. I also felt the story dragged in certain parts, didn't develop other parts, such as the character of the Mom. And, the ending was incredibly unrealistic. I felt it had the core of a good story without the grit or passion needed. I doubt I will be reading Macomber again.
