What did he say?

Rob Shapiro does an excellent job in all the other books in this series except this one. The last word in a the sentence and the last syllable in a word was too breathy/soft to be understood. I had to continually turn up the volume and concentrate to catch all of his words. This is particularly true for the passages related to Ariana, her thoughts and speech.

This is also my least favorite story. Kougar and Ariana have a strained relationship. The story gets very complicated as we never know exactly what the magic does that has been poisoning her race for a millennia. There are too many things that go wrong for the story to end up okay in the end and yet somehow it does? Ready to read the next in the series and hope it is better than this one.

Great Stories

I love shifter books and the stories. This series is very good and the history behind all the shifters is interesting. I love romance and the sex usually doesn't bother me, but by the 5th book in the series my only issue with these books are that as the series progresses there is more and more sex is in the stories then the actual story itself. I'm afraid of what book 6 is going to be like. So far sex is what keeps them alive, the only thing they can so without sex is breath. I feel the next book they won't even be able to breath without having sex. This is the first time I read any of Pamela Palmer books. I enjoyed them, but please add more content to the story and then you if have that much sex in the book it might at least be 50/50.
As for Rob Shapiro, I have enjoyed his voice, its perfect for the shifters, however when he speaks as a women, he lowers his voice so low that I had to keep rewinding or raise the volume when the females were talking. The Director should have picked up that issue and corrected it. But Rob's voice is awesome.
Worth a credit? Yes... Enjoy

Good book. Narrator's off his game tho

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. Its good listen. I've like the previous more, but i think this one may have been a gateway to future books. The overly breathy, too soft, and low voiced narration was a bit annoying tho.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jag. His smartass nature is similar to my own.

What didn’t you like about Rob Shapiro’s performance?

He's starting to get to soft spoken.

Faulty audio

This audio is very frustrating. The volume constantly fades in and out, so one feels like you need to turn it up to hear it or turn it down, every few seconds. Come on Audible! Fix this!

Shifter Fantasy with ex lovers

Book 5 of a series. Needs to be read in order. This book features Kougar and his (sort of ex-) mate Ariana, Queen of the Ilinas. I enjoyed the story although it wasn't as fast-paced as the previous books.

As with the rest of the series, this book is in the paranormal/fantasy genre, with a focus on erotica. The world of the shifters has zero taboos about sex; it is a critical part of life energy, health and rituals. There is a lot of action, with wars between good and evil, arch nemesis, fights, magic, etc. There are many sexy times.

I recommend this book for readers who enjoy both erotica/kink and Fantasy romance.

The narration was great. Other reviewers were upset by the volume changes - I agree there is an issue, but I didn't think it was a big deal.

Probably a good one, but can’t hear a lot of it

I love this narrator and the author, BUT the volume keeps fading out and in. This’s is so distracting that it is irritating and in a noisy environment, i am frequently missing whole words this is the only book in this series that this happened to, so am thinking it’s a production problem.
