Publisher's summary

She dreams of excitement in faraway lands. She is Persia Whiddington, astonishingly beautiful, voluptuous, and on the brink of womanhood. He is Zachariah Hazzard, handsome, lustful, and ambitious, a sailor destined to be captain of a merchant vessel. The night they meet, they find passion in each other's arms - with a tempestuous desire too briefly realized before fate wrenches them apart. But always it is Zachariah on her lips, in her heart, in her soul, as a desolate Persia journeys from the cold climes of Maine to the seductive, sultry nights of Bombay... a turbulent adventure that will place her in terrifying danger, not knowing if ever she will see her true love again - if ever their love will rekindle that hot, soaring flame....

Sweeping adventure

I find this book very hard to rate: I really enjoyed it but at the same time romance between H/h was so cringing, especially in the first part of the book, that at times I wanted to switch the book off. Hero, is a detestable cad, I couldn’t find any redeeming qualities in him and heroine is so weak and besotted that she couldn’t see or think straight. She spend ten years of her life mooning over the man who used her and left her disgraced and heart broken.
All in all, it’s very entertaining listen and a great adventure story but as a romance it didn’t quite appeal to me: I don’t like spineless heroines and unprincipled heroes without any moral values.
Spoiler/ Warning ⚠️
During the time H/ h are separated hero is a captain of the slave trading ship, his activities described only briefly but it’s still quite disturbing. ( No decent human being can be involved in slave trade and be a Hero of any romance.... He did a few questionable things but this was a final straw for me)

With all of that said, I would still recommend this book. Even though I didn’t like the hero the rest of the story is very engaging and kept me listening to the end.
