The title is SO random!!

I throughly enjoyed this book! The title and summary somehow put me off for a time. Eventually I gave in to curiosity and got it and am glad of it.
I thought the idiot premise sounded....well.... idiotic! But it totally worked. I could 'see' all the colorful characters and heard them as well. The mystery was a good one and the telling of it very well done.
I usually prefer a story taking place much earlier in history. I'm very partial to a time before phones and railways and even electricity and telegraphs. Yet I can safely say that the historical dates of this romance did not hinder my enjoyment at all, which is saying something!

NARRATOR : Wonderful! I enjoy Kate Reading and wish she did more. Her voices are distinct and the subtleties contained in each are expert! Phrasing, cadence, speed, all perfect. I heard the story and people in it and not her, which is how it should be! Her delivery is realistic. There are no mouthy sounds, pronounciation errors, or distracting facets to her performance. She has become one of my favorites.

CREDITWORTHY? : YES!

HEAT FACTOR?: Steamy, but very appropriately to the story without drawing it out or being vulgar.

I love this book..

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Any additional comments?

I first read this book February 11th 2013 and reviewed it the very next day. I loved this book so much that when I saw it on audible I had to get it and listen to it to see if it was as good as just reading it. Well, it was still wonderful.
I still loved Vere/Penny and Elissande, Freddy, the best brother ever, and Angelica, Mrs. Douglas, Holbrooke and the very patient Detective Nevinson. I have to tell you, Mr. Edmund Douglas was just a murderous creep.
An all-around wonderful love story with great characters and some great sex.

As to the narrator: Ms. Reading did a terrific job and I will definitely listen to her again.

Had so much potential

This book started off so well but was a let down in the end. Every character showed so much promise but was not fully explored. Hero’s initial infatuation with the heroine disappeared too soon - it would’ve been nice to see him love her despite himself. He was way too unsympathetic about her situation and why she did what she did. I wanted to see her leave him and have him suffer and grovel before she took him back. Overall, his motivations were never clear. Some authors do so well with portraying yearning and desire in a romance - such as Mary Balogh, Judith McNaught , Laura Kinsale - For me, this work by sherry Thomas didn’t reach that potential. This was my first read by this author though - I may try one more before I give up on this author.

Wonderful!

This was a great book. The romance was fantastic, the love scenes beautiful, and the mystery juicy. And it was read by Kate Reading. What's not to love?

Elissande: A prisoner in her evil uncle Edmund Douglas' house all her life, she knows it's only a matter of time before he kills her aunt. She'll do anything to get them both away from him.

Lord Vere: He is a a secret agent for the crown with an interesting cover: Everyone who knows him, believes he's suffered a brain injury that turned him into an idiot.

How these two meet is awesome to behold, and I love the way the mystery played out. The HEA was very satisfying, too.

All in all, a great way to spend several hours of my time, and I'm becoming a big Sherry Thomas fan, too!

Highly recommended.

warning!!!!

Do not! I repeat, DO NOT start this book if you have things to do, like sleep, for example.

Listening to this book may keep you up all night. You may keep everyone in the house up because of random, uncontrollable outbursts of laughter.

Proceed with caution at your own risk.

it's been a long while since I thoroughly enjoyed a book so much.

Meh

It was okay. Story was a bit boring somehow.. I've only listened to Kate reading in the lady Sherlock series and lets just say she's better suited to a robotic maybe on the autism spectrum characters. Wasn't torture, just very robotic, can't ever quite get past how peculiar she sounds.

Wonderful

I enjoyed this novel because of its wit and its nod to the Scarlet Pimpernel. I don’t know whether that was intentional or not but it was wonderfully done.

Entertaining

This was a nice story overall. The first half was absolutely hilarious and I had hopes of the story/narration being an all time favorite. Though it ended up being an entertaining book throughout, the first half was brilliant. Both the writing and narration were simply genius - I could not stop smiling or put it down. Despite the fun plot falling a bit flat, I still recommend as a lovely story. Looking forward to the next!

Entertaining throughout

I did enjoy this book and felt like it did well at not having any dull or filler in moments. it was consistently entertaining. I liked the first half of the book but didn't enjoy the relationship between the two characters for the last half of the book. Mostly how the male character was so in love with her but didn't let himself love her type thing. Wish there where different reasons rather than what his reasons where. The books ending was thrilling and I enjoyed it.
