Publisher's summary

Homicide cop Troy Bennett had a reputation with the Chicago PD for being fearless and in control - until the night his daredevil partner is killed during a raid. From that moment on, he swears he'll never again be responsible for the loss of a loved one. To escape his demons, Troy transfers to the NYPD, bringing him up close and personal with Ruby Elliott, a beautiful, street-savvy pool hustler. Reckless and stubbornly independent, Ruby embodies everything Troy's avoiding, but when she walks into the pub he's at with his new coworkers and blows his carefully laid plans to hell, Troy knows he has to have her - risks be damned. But there's a connection between Ruby's shadowed past and a case Troy's working involving a notorious Brooklyn felon, throwing her safety into jeopardy. Confronted with his biggest fear, will Troy push Ruby away to keep her safe or fight to keep her in his arms where she belongs?

Need Male and Female narrators

I didn’t like the ending. There should be an epilogue to let us know what happened in the future.

Also would be better with both male and female narrators.

Loved the book, not the voice

I am a huge fan of Tessa Bailey and I loved this book! Sweet story with suspenseful moments. I was not a fan of the narrator. Narrator's voice was older, extremely nasal, and she seemed to run out of breath. I feel bad for Tessa because the narrator didn't do her book justice.

Liked the book, didn't like the narrator

The narrator sounds like she has too much saliva in her mouth, and it really bothered me. Also, her delivery felt flat.
Other than that, I liked the book. I just wish I'd bought the ebook instead.

Story was good, but narration was ROUGH

I couldn’t really enjoy the whole of it because the narrators voice grated. She sounded like she had too much saliva in her mouth.

Dirty cop … but in the right way

Different book, same archetype of a controlling cop with a penchant for dom play and dirty talk.
Unlike book 1’s country girl Ginger, here Ruby’s a city girl. However, just like in book 1, she gets into trouble by charging in without her cop backup. This one lacks as much of the fun of the first book, but at novella length, that’s okay. In real life I’d avoid these personality types, but for a right-to-the-good-stuff freebie, this is a sizzling listen.

good but bad narrator

I love this author, the world of characters but the narrator doesn't do it for me. I loved the other series with Jill Redfield. This narrator barely acts, no voice changes, feels monotone. is it possible to get this re-recorded? idk if publishers do that but I don't think I can listen to this whole series with the current narrator.

Not too bad for ridiculously short novel!

For as short as this book was, I was surprised that it seemed fairly complete. Of course, it was insta-love, how could it not be? With that being said, I like the characters, they were different and interesting. The sex is pretty dirty, especially the sexy talk. The Hero is definitely an alpha, dominate lover but, not like serious Dom. There is a caning scene, so if that sort of thing offends you, you might want to skip this book or be prepared to fast forward. ( he uses a pool stick not an actual cane)
Was this credit worthy? Absolutely not! It’s way too short to waste a precious credit but, if you caught it on sale, it wouldn’t be a horrible buy. Luckily, this was included in the Escape/Romance package, so I was able to listen as part of my monthly subscription.

Loved this story by Tessa Bailey!

What did you love best about His Risk to Take?

I really enjoyed the story, the characters of Troy and Ruby and the camaraderie between Troy and his fellow police officers.

What other book might you compare His Risk to Take to and why?

It's a great addition to the Line of Duty series.

Have you listened to any of Alice Chapman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was my first audiobook by Alice Chapman. Although at times it sounded a bit like she was talking through clenched teeth, I got used to her voice and I liked the distinction between the male and female characters.

Any additional comments?

I'm looking forward to listening to more of Alice's narrations of Tessa's books.

Too many ‘uh’s everywhere

This narrator is terrible. …state’uh’ment’uh… …smiled’uh’…. It’s excruciating. I am relieved to see the next books have a different narrator.

His Risk to Take Line of Duty, Book 2.

It has been a unique experience reading this book series and having them interesting. Yet with the same excitement of all the other of the writers books. The couple are very stubborn and heads hills into any decision they feel they are entitled to make.
