Publisher's summary

Arthur Drams works for a secret government security agency, but all he really does is spend his days in a cubical writing reports no one reads. After getting another "lateral promotion" by a supervisor who barely remembers his name, it's suggested that Arthur try to "make friends" and "get noticed" in order to move up the ladder.

It's like high school all over again: His attempts to be friendly come across as awkward and creepy, and no one wants to sit at the same table with him at lunch. In a last-ditch attempt to be seen as friendly and outgoing, he decides to make friends with The Alien, aka Agent Martin Grove, known for his strange eating habits, unusual reading choices, and the fact that no one has spoken to him in three years.

Starting with a short, surprisingly interesting conversation on sociology books, Arthur slowly begins to chip away at The Alien's walls using home-cooked meals to lure the secretive agent out of his abrasive shell. Except Martin just might be something closer to an actual secret agent than paper-pusher Arthur is, and it might be more than hearts at risk when something more than friendship begins to develop.

Listened to this at least half a dozen times

This is a book I listen to any time I want something sweet and want to see a slow but steady growth in the relationship. They just fit so well together. I wish it was longer but the sequel just came out so I’m excited for that. 🤞cross your fingers it’s as good as the first.

Loved it!

I bought this book after reading reviews about how respectful it is to asexuality. I expected it to be good just not this good, honestly it was great! I think my biggest surprise was how complete this book felt considering how short it is. Normally most romance audio books that are about 7 hours or less have a tendency to feel incomplete somehow so I tend to steer clear but this one trimmed the fat while still providing great world building and leaving me feeling emotionally satisfied. Such a cute book and for a heat rating of zero I still felt some sparks here and there! Highly recommend. Will definitely add to my favorites library!

Misleading audio sample.

This is a favorite story of mine - but I delayed giving the Audiobook version a go because initially the narration style is a bit off-putting from what I'm used to - especially in the sample.

However, when starting at the beginning I got used to the different style of narration pretty quickly (within a few minutes), after which it was fine. Significantly more voice acting takes place than the sample led me to believe, and I honestly think that the narrator did a really good job. The narration style is just initially a bit of a jarring seeming mismatch with the literally quiet tone of the book (it's mostly silent communication and internal narration from Arthur's point of view), but ultimately works because he does a good job. Also, because the POV character is Arthur, and he's a bit socially awkward and all over the place (salient plot points being the cause) it sort of works.

I guess my point is: it's a great story, if the audio sample put you off and if you find you can get used to narration styles other than your preferred pretty quickly, it's definitely worth a listen.

Wholesome and Inclusive and so so good

I absolutely loved it!
The MC is demi and the love interest is ace and their relationship is built on quiet moments and caring for each other. It's just all so lovely.

The narrator is good but I got confused once or twice with the way he spaced the words, there are some abrupt cuts and I got lost.
