Publisher's summary

Alex MacLeod's virile physique, fearsome reputation, and renowned fighting skills have helped him master to perfection the role of a hardened mercenary. On a secret mission to protect his clan, he must keep his true purpose well hidden. But his dangerous endeavor is threatened by a beautiful woman he saves from outlaws, never dreaming she will appear at court and put his plans in jeopardy.

Meg Mackinnon needs a strong husband by her side to defend her clan's holdings, but her search has been hampered by burning fantasies of the midnight rescuer whose smoldering blue eyes and raw sensuality left her breathless. Alex pretends to be a mercenary with no loyalties, yet he is clearly much more. As Meg challenges Alex to reveal all his secrets, the stakes grow perilously high, especially for the bold woman who dares to unmask a highlander.

good storyline

really hard to listen to the machine gun delivery of the narrator. good voice but needs more evenly paced delivery.

Why take so long to be unmasked

This is just a okay highlander romance story that could have been so much better if it was not so long. This is not historical lit, it's a romance between a hero who has issues between his duty to his clan and what he should easily be able to determine is his great love. I think the pace given the circumstance of the story could have move along faster. It is one of the things stopping me from moving onto to the final book. I am sure I'll purchase the next book. So if highland romance (not a steamy romance) but good romance is what you have a need for, then this series, may be for you. I would recommend Karen Marie Moning's highlander series for fun and romance and Maya Banks steaming romanic highlander stories.

Oh the MacLeods..... they just get better + better

Who wouldn't love a pained, tormented handsome Highland hero torn between love and duty. Good romance story with likeable characters, well written and narrated. It definately had the mmm.... factor.

Worth the credit - Absolutely YES.

This One Even Better Than The First

Action from the very beginning and you have Alex and Margaret (Meg) who are on a mission of their own. They will not allow anyone to get in their way, not even themselves. Once again deceit and sexual attraction comes into play. It has a typical ending, but the ride to that end is enjoyable.

Halting, unatural cadence of narrator's voice ODD!

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I cannot imagine. Reading. This book. The way the. Narrator read. it. The. meaningless. Pauses. Distracted from. Any. Meaning the plot. and. Characters could have. possibly communicated to. The reader.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

A different narrator!!!

How could the performance have been better?

Punctuation, cadence, and intonation are essential for a narrator to understand and execute. I was completely distracted by the halting, choppy speaking.

Do you think Highlander Unmasked needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Not without a different narrator. I usually enjoy this author but I can't pay any attention to the story when distracted by bizarre narration. I didn't finish the book, so I really couldn't say.

Any additional comments?

Frustrating. I listen to these books to relax! Relaxing was impossible. I felt like I was riding in a car with someone who was trying to learn to drive a stick shift up hill!

Not bad but not great

hmm... it started off promising, however I found myself not caring whether or not the main characters ended up together. Meg was annoying and for being so "smart" she made one bad decision after another, putting herself and others at risk. She came off too desperate and weak. I enjoyed the first book in the series so I'll still continue with the next book but I do hope it's better than this one.

Different, But The Same

I normally like books about Highlanders, but I've noticed, although the names of the handsome Scottish Warriors change, as well as their Lady Fair, with a differing plot, there seems to be a sameness about the stories in this series. No imagination needed, no surprises.

I've previously enjoyed stories narrated by Antony Ferguson, once I got used to the way he structures his sentences, but during his reading of "Highlander Unmasked" he sound more sing-song at times, which was off-putting.

I can't say it's not a well written book, but I didn't particularly enjoy it.

Great story!

Wonderful follow up to book one I love how Monica's stories flow. At times they just seem to pick up without a miss. Great narrator Antony Furguson brings the highlands to life.
