Editorial Reviews

Are you ready for a sexy tale of time travel, sword-wielding men in kilts, and dangerous California criminals? Though it may sound preposterous, Catherine Bybee has managed to blend all three of these distinct worlds together in her romantic thriller Highland Shifter. David Monteath performs this fantastical saga with aplomb. He captures Simon McAllister's gruff courage skillfully. His portrayal of Helen Adams, our faithful heroine, is equally powerful, further enhancing this delicious pause-resister's sensual appeal.

Publisher's Summary

Helen Adams has a knack for finding lost objects, but the Simon McAllister she finds isn't what she expected. The missing California teen is now a grown man - a kilted, sword wielding, Highland warrior. A mysterious Druid book and Helen's sixth sense send her to Scotland in search of a missing boy. After being attacked by strange men dressed in medieval garb, a handsome, desirable hero answering to the boy's name rescues her. No one is more surprised than she to find herself in sixteenth century Scotland. Unable to deny the reality of time travel, Helen discovers smoldering passion with a man destined to leave her. Simon has lived his Druid life in two very different worlds, two vastly different times, and when Helen practically lands in his lap, he knows his life is about to change forever. There are enemies in California lying in wait for her, and an army in Scotland closing in on his family. Simon is the only person who can protect her. But when she learns his most guarded secret, will she still want him? Can Helen love a Highland Shifter?

Great Highlander Series -Book 4 Simon all Gown Wow

This is book 4 in a series. Audible isn't showing the series properly and book 4 came out first and confused many buyers which is a shame as I'm sure that affected the love of these stories to unexpectedly plop late into the series, so the books come in this order.

#1 Binding Vows
#2 Silent Vows
#3 Redeeming Vows
#4 Highland Shifter
#5 Highland Protector (not out in Audiobook yet)

This is a GREAT series, funny, serious, lots of twists and turns, and parts will make you cry. Love the books. AND the narration by David Monteath is PERFECT and frankly that alone is worth the listen. It's great to hear a Scottish man read for the male characters for a change as it really adds to those characters in an addictive sexy way. He's now one of my favorite "readers" (and I've heard many).

The books blend time travel, history, battles, humor, suspense, magick and romance (and some sex) in just the right blend. Each book picks up pretty much where the previous book leaves off and you'll want to go through the next all as soon as each one. It's more a tale of all these great characters, so it's a great family tale not just a romance based on "where can we insert plenty of sex scenes".

While some argue there's enough explanation in each to have them stand alone, since characters' histories and actions span multiple books, do yourself a favor and read them in order!!

Love these books, hope this series continues on and on....

Good book But....

Don't get me wrong the story was good but missing something had I known that it was the last book released at the time I bought it I probably would have waited... The book is missing a back story and you could feel that it was there...The narration was ok a little flat at times but all in all a good listen and worth the time. ...I really wish these books would be released in order

SORRY, BUT IT LACKED THAT X FACTOR FOR ME

Beware this is actually book 4 of the MacCoinnich Time Travels series and I don't know whether it would have made much difference to my review if I'd listened to them first, as this could have been a stand-alone listen, however I'll never know so here's what I thought.

Some books grip you and you hate to be interrupted or you can't wait to get back to the story - well sadly this book wasn't one of those listens for me. The characters were likeable but I just didn't 'feel' the romance between the couple, the sexual build up, awareness and act was bland and I ended up not really being emotionally invested in them or their HEA. The 'ping-ponging' back and forth through the centuries had nothing special about them, the Druid's abilities were all rather blah and the action scenes were unfortunately dull and anti-climactic in the end. I didn't find the plot either riveting or exciting, yes there were moments of interest and glimpses of potential but they were sadly quashed.

Worth a credit? Maybe it was me as I've been listening to some really great, exciting books at the moment and that's why this book seems a 'Lo' version of a favorite dessert - edible yes but not at all m m mouthwateringly delicious. I've learnt the lesson that you really can't tell a book by it's cover (which initially tempted me - yes I'm that sad) and not getting the back histories in books 1, 2 & 3 MAY have made a difference, so sadly this falls under my NO, not worth my credit list.

Yes. I would recommend this to anyone who is into time travel and magic.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character in this book was of course Simon. He embraced his gift from book 2 and really ran with it.

Which scene was your favorite?

When he shifted into the Coyote and cornered that bastard Phillip!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Don't believe what you see!

Best of series....

Love and time travel, how does it get better than that ??? Catherine Bybee gets better with every book she writes. Either she has an amazing sex life or what an imagination. I would kill for just one night like that...Enjoy.......😈

Great story but...

the leading lady is the weakest link. I wanted to hit her with a heavy 2 x4 plank on many occasions. After the story of a strong fierce woman like Liz, Helen's freak outs and dodgy decision making was very irritating. By the time she makes the worst decision of all I was thinking - Simon deserves better.
