Publisher's summary

Phenomenal #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts presents a spine-tingling novel about a female cop who walks fearlessly into danger - but must draw on her courage to let love into her life.

Police Lieutenant Phoebe MacNamara found her calling at an early age when a violently unstable man broke into her family’s home, trapping and terrorizing them for hours. Now she’s Savannah’s top hostage negotiator, who puts her life on the line every day to defuse powder-keg situations.

After watching her talk one of his employees off a roof ledge, Duncan Swift is committed to keeping this intriguing, take-charge woman in his life. Phoebe’s used to working solo, but she’s finding that no amount of negotiation can keep Duncan at arm’s length. Especially when a man throws a hood over Phoebe’s head and brutally assaults her - in her own precinct house - and threatening messages begin appearing on her doorstep. Duncan backs her up every step of the way, as she establishes contact with the faceless tormentor who is determined to make her a hostage to fear - before she becomes the final showdown.

A stunning "read"

and then it was finished!

The characters are "real" they have lives and history.

I just couldn't stop listening and then it was gone and in true Nora Roberts style I missed the 2nd book.

Thank you, well done it was GREAT!

Great Story!

The storyline of the book was excellent! Kept me guessing until the end. Found the narration a bit distracting and a little hard to follow which character was speaking! Overall a very good book!

Great characters, Romance, Exciting crime story

Nora Roberts' books are often vastly different from one another. Some I enjoy - others not as much. This is one of the good ones. The main male character is the sexy, exciting, dependable man every woman wants and the main female character is a police hostage negotiator, a heroine in every aspect of her life. If pressed to identify this book's genre, I'd have to say it is a romance/crime//thriller. Although the book focuses on the heroine's occupation and the police investigation that threatens her life and the lives of the people she loves, her romance and home life are woven into the entire story. I recommend this one.

Loved it and wanted more

This was great. All of the stories blended so well and showed Phoebe so completely. I wanted the rest of the story...

What a warm feeling at the first sound of Susan Ericksen's voice. I loved it all!

Amazing book!

The story was just wonderful but the narrator was incredible! So many voices she used, I knew exactly which character was speaking. Great book!! Grabbed me from the start.

This is good, solid writing

There are no obvious flaws here. I loved the significance of the job for the main character. I believe that there are people who absolutely need their jobs to be significant and that makes this one a great read. There remain the usual absurdities -- that prevail in any Nora Roberts book -- and which prevent them all from being the absolute best I can imagine. Still, I listened all the way through and liked the resolution.

Great!

I enjoyed this listen of "High Noon". It had suspense, sex, romance and mystery. All of the things I love in a book. Thank you Nora Roberts.
I had a hard time differentiating the H and H's voices . Which , I thought unusual for Susan Erickson. Because she was an excellent narrator for J.D.Robb's audio books.
But all in all I would and did recommend this audio book. ☺
