Publisher's summary

Scotland, 1812. He's ferocious and rugged to the bone, an English soldier more at home on the battlefield than in any society drawing room. And when Major Gabriel Forrester learns that he has inherited the massive Scottish Highlands title and estate of a distant relation, the last thing he wants to do is give up the intensity of the battlefield for the too-soft indulgences of noble life. But Gabriel Forrester does not shirk his responsibilities, and when he meets striking, raven-eyed lass Fiona Blackstock, his new circumstances abruptly become more intriguing.

Like any good Highlander, Fiona despises the English - and the new Duke of Lattimer is no exception. Firstly, he is far too attractive for Fiona's peace of mind. Secondly, his right to "her" castle is a travesty, since it's been clan Maxwell property for ages.

As the two enter a heated battle of wills, an unexpected passion blazes into a love as fierce as the Highlands themselves. Is Fiona strong enough to resist her enemy's advances - or is Gabriel actually her hero in disguise?

Enjoyed it!

Quick Thoughts: This book was really hard for me to rate! There were parts I really loved and other parts I had a hard time wrapping my head around. Actually there was one moment and it was the first time it got smexy. I didn't care a wit about how sexually free she was but I did notice that he just kind of assumed it. That bothered me a gosh darn bit. I loved them otherwise and they both showed tremendous growth during the story. Their romance was perfect (for them) and in the end I was left wanting more (I already have book 2 which I am told I will adore like mad). So yes I recommend this!

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated by: Flora MacDonald / Length: 11 hrs and 17 mins

This is (as far as I know unless this is an alias) the first Flora MacDonald narration I have listened too. I was impressed. In fact, she might have been a wee bit too good on the narration because there were a couple of times I had to rewind to catch her Scottish Brogue. Her male voices weren't bad at all and I will totally continue this series in audio!

This is a very cute book & the narrator was great!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I rarely write a review but I have been looking for a light hearted, quirky audiobook.. This was the one

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hero in the Highlands?

They hit the ground running in their first meeting with the cow stuck in the mud.. Too funny!

What does Flora MacDonald bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Flora is smart but straight forward and brings a fresh outlook to our jaded H

Love all of Suzanne Enoch's books...

But those narrated by Flora MacDonald are fantastic!! I loved Gabriel's voice and it was very distinct. Excellent job!

Loved it.

Loved it! Especially the way the main female character is written. For once we are spared the hypocrisy of a virginal heroine. Love the narrator.

I will listen to any HR by Suzanne Enoch

I love Suzanne Enoch Historical Romance books and I love Flora MacDonald as a narrator. However, this book was good as always, but a little long, the h and H began their physical relationship long before the feelings developed. The mystery could have been a bit more exciting and the book would not have dragged in spots. That may sound like a lot of criticism, but I still enjoyed the book very much and do not regret using a credit. For those who care: the are numerous sex scenes between the h and H and a few times the Lord’s name was used in vane.

Fun listen

This was a pretty fun story, though it took wwaaayyyy too long to “get to the point” in some regards. About halfway in I was just wishing it was over so I sped up the book a little and thankfully it started to pick up shortly after. I really liked Fionas loyalty to doing what was right, even when it goes against the odds. I probably won’t go out to get the next book in the series, unless it was in one if the sales. The narrator was good, but early on she went really really heavy in the Scottish accent and it was really hard to decipher. As the book went on, she got quite a lot better at it and it was easier to catch. I got this on a 2 for 1 sale and for that it was worth it. If I’d have used a credit on it thiugh I would have been disappointed.

Loved it !

NARRATION made the book. Gabriel and Fiona's love story was fire and wit. I found it very entertaining.

Delightful and engaging combo two two plot lines

Love Suzanne Enoch’s artfully combining the Napoleonic Wars with the Scottish Highlands; good character development and plot. Wished there was an epilogue but I’m not complaining
