Publisher's summary

Abducted by a band of renegade Scots, Highland gypsy Tasara Faas doesn't hesitate to blacken her rescuer's eye when the charming duke attempts to steal a kiss. Afterward, she learns she's the long-lost heiress Alexandra Atterberry and is expected to take her place among the elite society she's always disdained.

Lucan, the Duke of Harcourt, promised his gravely ill mother he'd procure a wife by Christmastide, but intrigued by the feisty lass he saved in Scotland, he finds the haut ton ladies lacking. Spying Alexa at a London ball, he impulsively decides to make the knife-wielding gypsy his bride despite her aversion to him and her determination to return to the Highlands.

The adversary responsible for Alexa's disappearance as a toddler still covets her fortune and joins forces with Harcourt's arch nemesis. Amidst a series of suspicious misfortunes, Lucan endeavors to win Alexa's love and expose the conspirators, but only succeeds in reaffirming Alexa's belief that she is inadequate to become his duchess.

really great book

Heartbreak and Honor is book 3 in the Highland Heather Romancing a Scot series by Collette Cameron. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. I also have a copy of it so I followed along when I could. It is really funny and had numerous laugh out loud moments. I especially enjoyed the hero the dashing Lucan Ashford the Duke of Harcourt. “Her traitorous heart gave an excited tremor. So different from the shaggy-haired, broad-faced men of her clan. Sharp hewn features, high cheekbones, a square jaw, and surprisingly black-lashed eyes and dark eyebrows bespoke his aristocratic heritage, no doubt many generations old. His sculpted mouth spread into a knowing smile, revealing square teeth and a charming dimple in his right cheek. She wanted to touch the indentation. Verra attractive and verra dangerous, indeed.”
Normally when I listen to a romance, I like to hear a woman’s voice. But I felt that David Monteath did a fabulous job of bringing this book to life. Towards the end of the book there are a couple of steamy scenes for those who want to know.

My favorite Collette Cameron put to audio

Where does Heartbreak and Honor rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was one of my favorite books to read it's even better with David Monteath's wonderful voice giving it even more life.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lucan, the Duke of Harcourt has to be one of my favorite of Collette Cameron's characters. A rouge to the world but a true gentleman and hero to his friends and family.

Mystery and Intrigue in an Amazing Tale

I just loved this tale! Alexa was raised by gypsies and had been kidnapped. Her rescuer none other than the Duke of Harcourt. Lucan finds the gypsy girl and instantly becomes attracted to her after saving her and her siblings for the evil Blackhalls! They go their separate ways and he can't get her out of his mind. Surprise to him she is a list heiress and once again he saves her from the very people out to kill her. Convincing her to marry him is a feat altogether! It's the only way to solve a mystery and keep her safe. Only love once again is showing them both what can happen when they trust each other. Another fabulous HEA story from Cameron.

From Scotish gypsy to English nobility is no easy road.

This is another wonderful story by author Collette Cameron. As a toddler she is found and rescued by Scottish gypsies. They are the only family she remembers. Only after she reaches the age of one and twenty does she find out that they are not her real family and she is actually English nobility. Lists of intrigue and unanswered questions and a lovely romance with a Duke. This was an excellent narration by David Monteath with a Scottish brogue. I very much enjoyed this tale.

Intriguing Story Line, Masterfully Done

Heartbreak and Honor intrigued me from the first paragraph, and was a "page turner" from then on. I couldn"t stop listening, even to eat! At 4:15 a.m. I finished the book and still couldn't go to sleep! I was still riding that high that comes from reading a GREAT book. The characters and story line just would not let me reat. With kidnapping, backbiting, rumor mongering and danger from those that should protect her, a person just cannot help wondering what could possibly happen next. Each paragraph grabs the reader's interest and holds it. Since Collette Cameron is a premiere writer and David Monteath is a skilled narrator, this audio book is a first rate listen.

Who Am I?

What do you do when a handsome man rescues you from the dangerous band of men who kidnapped you? Tasara Fass punches him in the eye (he did try to steal a kiss). This is how Lucan, Duke of Harcourt, and Alexandra Atterberry (Tasara Fass) meet. When she learns that she is not a gypsy, but a long-lost heiress, Alexa must leave her home and life with the black tinkers and learn to live in Society. Lucan agrees to what he believes is his mother’s last request, that he marry by Christmastide. They meet again in London. What will happen this time? Will Lucan try to steal another kiss? Will Alexa punch him in his other eye? Will they be able to defeat the danger that stalks Alexa?

Lucan and Alexa are wonderful characters. They seem so different at first glance, but they complement each other - perfect chemistry. He is honorable, caring, and devoted to his family, and a little bit haughty (goes with being a duke). She is feisty, intelligent, caring, and equally devoted to those she loves. The other characters ran the gambit from love and kindness to greed and betrayal. The Needhams, Alexa’s aunt, uncle, and cousin were wonderful. From the moment they set eyes on her, they were loving and supportive. Jealous, greedy, sneaky, and criminal are the best words to describe the villains in this tale. Heartbreak and Honor is a complex story, a page-turner with excitement, danger, intrigue, humor, some surprises and romance. David Monteath’s narration was, as usual, smooth and engaging. I recommend this one. You won’t be disappointed.

thrilling!

I have no read any books in this series and after listening to this one I need to remedy that and soon! At first I thought this had a touch of Cinderella with the evil step mother but it was more complex than that. The verbal sparing between the H and the h was good and the characters were well developed. I recommend listening to this!

Great tale but too long for plot

I enjoyed the beginning of this book. It had a nice twist, and did a great job laying a foundation for the characters. But the premise was evident very early and didn’t evolve into something more complex until the last third of the book. I would have enjoyed it more had it been shorter with the same plot. However it is a very nice read.

Romance and intrigue

This was such a good story to listen to. There was plenty of action and intrigue throughout the book. Alexa and Lucan were very likeable characters. Although they had an attraction, Alexa wouldn’t agree to a marriage without love. They are a number of secrets to discover about Alexa’s past and this will keep you enthralled until the end.
The narrator was excellent, he really brought the scenes to life and his voices was so easy to listen to. He used different voices for all the characters, Scottish, English and French,

A good story with twists

This was an enjoyable book. It took me a bit to get into the story. I think it may have taken me a bit to get used to the narrator's accent. After getting used to the accent and the action of the story took me on a journey. I enjoyed listening to the plot unfold and the chemistry between Alexa and Luken. Overall this was an enjoyable book and will probably be one that I listen to again.
